- Just winding up the winter holidays with a big family get together before we all go back to school/work etc Monday. We don't have room for fourteen so I have to cobble together a mix of tables. I don't have fourteen matching brightly coloured napkins so I go full mix and match. No room for floristry on such a crowded table so a good idea for you here. And I'm determined that since we've all had enough of Christmas there will be no Christmassy feel to the party despite our having a lot of leftovers to eat (as well as making more!)

Thought of you while ironing 12 napkins and tablecloth of double damask at 2 am on Christmas Eve remembering to pull the roast at 5 am to temp for Xmas din for 12 after 23rd tea for 9, dinner for 8, Xmas eve dinner for 7, then onto christmas dinner, all me, I burst out laughing in appreciation and comraderie, for the people who “host,” The Incredible drive and labor to create…well, a “garden of people.” Creating the canvas the structure, and hearing “the bloom” from the kitchen. I think what I love about ur floristry is it is not ego driven, like “look at this particular expression of me,” but, “here is the garden, what will you think and talk about while in it?” And having no attachment whatsoever to outcome. Stage managing, really.Farming, really. And every year I say, exhausted, Next Year, I am just going to show up in my finery and enjoy, my sisters can do this, but I never do, and they never do, bc I am not actually interested in the flowers, bc I know 100% they will do what they are born to do. I am interested in the dirt.From which they grow. Think I answered my own question why u included Dalloway on reading list. Double damask is the best. The smell of it under steam. Lovely table and all of it. Just beautiful.

Oh my goodness Georgie, that was supremely enjoyable! I was preparing to play housie-housie (read vigorous cleaning) too, when I saw you pop up in TH-cam. Your home is just gorgeous with those stunning Georgian (I think) antiques! Your menu sounds divine as well (the dauphinoise took me straight back to culinary school)!! Georgie, you set a beautiful table. It is so inviting with the lovely pink pitcher, napkins, candles and tableware.
You are a fantastic host who cares and it shows. You carry on no matter the situation and make it work. I love your practicality for making 2 large chickens go the extra mile with another meal plus soup. That’s very good advice.

Oh Georgie you make me smile. Love the stains on the tablecloth and putting the hyacinths on the dresser to cover up the mess. It sounds like our farmhouse🤣🤣 Who cares, it's the company that matters that's what I say.

That was fun. I hope you enjoyed your family get-together, who wouldn't? Here in France, you probably know about those rubbery underclothes we can purchase by the metre? They protect the wooden table and hide a multitude of sins. It could add a smooth touch to your beautifully prepared party tables. Those bubbles looked yummy 😋
yes the rubbery undercloths are great - you can get them by the meter here at John Lewis - I should treat myself! x

the napkins come from all over the place - I just keep an eye out and occasionally treat myself if I see some I like x

Happy New Year! If I may be honest... I prefer Prosecco and/or Asti over champagne anytime! Don't find champagne is worth the price (but that is my opinion off course). I even prefer sparkling cider over champagne...
