- The Masenko is an underrated attack in my opinion.

They definitely should have kept Gohan's powers demon/piccolo themed. It's a much more interesting design to keep him distinct from Goku

The Masenko is such an underrated move. His first one after Piccolo got killed was the epitomy of Gohan becoming a warrior at such a young age. A pity he stopped using it in favor of the Kamehame Ha! In my opinion, Gohan should've only used the Kamehame ha in that fight with Cell after his dad got killed. and used the Masenko as his signature, that way he would'nt have been a pale imitation of his dad with just a different haircut in the Buu Arc!
I feel like kept using it since his dad was dead for 7 years and since he taught it to him in the hyperbolic time chamber tbh I feel in the buu saga I feel they should've gave him his clothes back or would've ask piccolo to make him different from his dad
I think he's going to use it again in the Super Hero movie. I'd also love to see Gohan master Special Beam Cannon.

Masenko might be my favorite move in the franchise. Whats not to like. Charges fast, powerful impact, easy and quick to say compared to kamehameha or special beam cannon etc.

Masengko is easy to execute compared to kamehameha. Kamehameha requires to charge your hand with Ki which takes time.

And that's on top of how both Goten and Trunks have a shit ton of potential *and* love fighting but keeps pushed to the side like every other Z Fighter.

Fun fact: Masenko translates as "Demon's Flash of Light" or just Demon Wave, which makes sense because Piccolo invented it, and Piccolo was the Demon King in Dragonball.

@@Priceluked Probably, he hadn't invented his more powerful attacks like Special Beam Cannon at that point yet, not that Special Beam Cannon is typically used to produce large explosions in the first place.
Could have just been a simple Ki blast that he used to destroy West City, but this is unlikely, as Ki blasts in Dragonball usually had names and were used with far more fanfare than they are in DBZ or in more modern episodes, they weren't thrown around willy nilly.

My first time realizing that in the Broly movie that was a double Masenko between Gohan and Trunks because he learned the move from future Gohan. That’s dope because we didn’t get to see their fighting chemistry much except for in the movies.

@@cookiecraze1310 when I read dumb shit like this it makes me think of u guys watched the show at all, A higher power lvl just means that if someone wanted to with the flick of their wrist they can blow up a planet, sun, solar system, galaxy, universe and so on. But even with all of that we still see weaker characters use strategy to overcome them, like Krillin using the districto disk to cut of Frieza's tail who was hundreds of times stronger than him but he still crippled him. Or Tien who kept back a second form cell whom was stronger than Goku, Gohan & Vegeta combined by using a technique and strategy that used up his life force to keep him at bay. Or Goku in the TOP who used strategy against Jiren to keep up with him. And there's way more examples but you guys are too dumb to open your eyes.
Still did in the fight the fight against freiza, freiza had a power level of 1M and toyed with everyone till Goku turned super Saiyan.
"You hurt my dad, you killed my friend!" This scene was amazing to me back in the day, it shows thoughout the entire Namek ordeal, Gohan's power just continued to skyrocket over time.
17:14 is my favorite Masenko. I love how Trunks uses it as a quick shock attack and the sound is amazing. Future Gohan would've been proud. 🤧

@@sheebify The Kai voice actor sounds so annoying though, and she sucks as Super Saiyan 2 Gohan. Also, yes, I know his voice is a bit too gravelly, but he honestly still sounds like a kid to me in the OG dub - his voice is noticeably higher and more youthful than the rest of the Z-Fighters, except for maybe Krillin and obviously Chiaotzu.
Also this just reminded me of something. They can speak telepathically. Why did Piccolo feel the need to have to bring Krillin close to him to let him know he's back to normal in the Garlic Jr. Saga lmao makes no sense

I find it funny how the original funi dub dubs like every attack Gohan and to some extent Piccolo does as Masenko, even when it looks clearly different.

its a nice detail that the anime staff decided to expand the users of the masenko, giving to piccolo( i don't recall if he used on the manga but i think he didn't) since he is Gohan's master and probably is the one that created the move, to future trunks since he was future Gohan disciple, buuhan since he absorbed gohan obviously and Pan since she is his daughter so it makes sense he would teach it to her

He didn't defeated Kefra in the manga. It was a draw. Also Kefra in manga was watered down as it doesn't make sense that fusion of 2 SS2 would be stronger than SSB.

The first Masenko ever performed is actually from the first DB series. Young Piccolo uses it against a dog.
I like to think of Masenko as a weak yet fast move. An attack that can easily be used even when nearly drained, easy to learn and helpful when it can be used. Sorta a small rescue of sorts. As even the fastest Kamehameha is still slower than the slowest Masenko, it just makes it a bit more unique of a move. Heck, most attacks just go for being the strongest or flashiest, so having one just meant to save energy and hitting the opponent where it matters is kinda neat in it's own right

Depending on how long gohan charges it, it can be very powerful. Perfect example, against frieza 2nd and 3rd form.

Lovely stuff, I love these Dragon Ball move compilations of various scenes showing their use. I will forever love Gohan as my favorite character whether he is a powerhouse or takes the backseat, I support him in all his personal choices and endeavors. He deserves to be either a peaceful family man who never fights again if he so chooses or a family man who trains on his free time, I will forever love him regardless of which he ultimately becomes in the end.

The voice acting was so beautiful in the early days, really pulls at the heart, making you feel his innocence + conviction to do what's right. Doing what's right even if he has to draw power from the evil in his Saiyan dna + Piccolo's dark~demonic training.
That's not a "Masenko," it's a decency blast, the pure power of his innocent and honourable heart facing off agaisnt all evil.

I’ve enjoyed the super manga recently, but I have to say, nothing beats watching Z for the first time. Back when the other characters mattered and had a chance to do things. Watching Gohan, he has always been my favourite character, with Yamcha right behind him from the original DB. Both of them are pretty much shelved in super, Yamcha, since Z!
