If one is ever in Pittsburgh. Stop at a little museum called photo antiquities.
Technically there were some very early experiments with color photography when Daguerreotypes were current, by Levi Hill using his Heliochromy process, but if you had one of these photographs it would be worth a fortune, and one of the very few that isn't in the Smithsonian.
i'm not an expert on old photographs or any.. but isn't it really bad for these photographs to see sunlight?
I have a 1918 Red Sox babe Ruth team photo and it’s not modern on any way but the only one I can find for an exact match is at the national baseball library and they won’t let me anywhere near it
The materials that the actual frames are made from are just as interesting some are made from Bois Durci French for “hardened wood”) is a natural plastic that was invented in France in the mid-19th century by mixing wood flour and ox blood and, after drying, pressing them into molded pieces while being heated. Blood!!!!!

I had her appraise some photos of mine at the roadshow (didn’t make it on TV) and she was quite rude and dismissive. Acted like she couldn’t be troubled to look at what I had.
I got that sort of vibe from watching this.
