WERE WE CRAZY? 😬 Visiting Our Old House after 1 Year in the Airstream

  • We downsized from our 2,200 sq ft house to live and travel full-time in an Airstream. One year later, we return to our old house to see if we miss living there.
In this video, we explore the emotions of choosing to move out of our Fort Collins, Colorado house and into an RV. At the time, it certainly felt crazy! We were fascinated with tiny living and traveling, but we didn't know if the Airstream would be a good solution for us.
We also didn't know if we would regret leaving our house. But we couldn't shake the feeling that we should do it, so we took the leap.
Before making this big change in our lives, we felt like we were stuck in a daily grind, going in circles, without much meaning or purpose. If you're feeling the same way, we have some advice and perspective to share with you. Over the past year, we have learned a LOT about ourselves while living full-time in a travel trailer.
If you've ever considered living in a van or RV-or just feel like it's time to make a change in your life-watch this video! Haha, I left Fort Collins seven years ago to travel full time and I’ve never looked back, friends want me to come back and visit, but I’m to busy exploring. Love following your journey!

Such Encouraging words…we just sold our home, furnished so we wouldn’t have to get rid of too much, the rest we gave away to friends and family…we bought a 30’ airstream and are hitting the road September 1st. Cant wait to get out and explore, mountain bike and kayak more.

That's awesome! Congratulations! It's amazing how much you can sell or give away, and yet still feel like you have everything you need. Enjoy the journey!

@@ThisWyldeLife it’s true! I’ve always been a, buy everything used or recycle things person, so leaving things for the new owners and gifting things to our friends and family has felt so amazing! To quote my Dad, “if you’re not having fun, what’s the point”

Y’all are awesome! You should do a “day in the life” type of video. How do you go about doing laundry or organizing your pantry and stuff like that

Probably better for most to rent their house out for a year while they try the RV lifestyle. One year usually does the trick and then you still have a home ;-)

If you own a home, renting it out is a great way to have someone pay your mortgage (or put some extra money in your pocket). We were renting, so that wasn't an option for us.

Just found you guys. Doing exactly what me and the wife are considering doing. What truck are you using to pull the airstream? Trying to wrap my head around how big I will need to pull about the same size trailer as you guys have. Thanks.

Thanks for watching! Excited to hear about your plans!
We tow with a Chevy 2500 diesel. We didn't already have a truck, so when we sold our car we went for a truck that would have more than enough capability and provide a good safety margin. It hardly feels like we're pulling a trailer in our 2500, but many people do pull a 27FB with a 1/2 ton pickup.
The key is to determine payload capacity (listed on the driver's side door jamb sticker). Make sure that the total weight of your occupants and cargo, PLUS the tongue weight of the trailer, is comfortably below your truck's payload capacity. The 27FB has a pretty heavy tongue weight-about 1,100 pounds when packed for travel. That tongue weight alone is close to the payload capacity of many 1/2 ton pickups, unless the truck is carefully optioned.
You should also consider a weight distribution hitch (WDH). We use a Blue Ox ( amzn.to/2SXky1M ). A WDH will NOT reduce tongue weight, but it does distribute the tongue weight more evenly between the front and rear axles of the tow vehicle, improving handling and braking.
Hope that helps! Let us know if you have other questions.
