There is no way you're gonna see this comment, but can you please consider doing a review of russian cartoons Heroes of Envell (Герои Энвелла) and Fantasy Patrol (Сказочный патруль). They are not the best thing, but also not the worst! It's actually a big step for russian cartoon industry. And I think that the style of those two shows (both in 3D) is better than Regal Academy.

Well the show had an extremely low budget so they couldn't even afford advertising and just sold it to multiple countries. The lack of advertising caused extremely low ratings causing it to be cancelled after just 2 seasons. The reason it's underrated is because rainbow released it while their finances weren't secure hence the lack of advertising

I feel like Regal Academy had so much potential to be really great! It just need to revamp the characters, specially rose, and have a better and cohesive narrative story-line! It will be so cool! We need a reboot!!!!!!

Same! I've grown up always worrying about grades to make my parents proud. Now that I think about it, I feel like I focused way too much on my grades seeing as I'd cry if I didn't get the grade I want. Still do from time to time.

However, people used to tell me I was smart because I had good grades (which I always disputed), and now that I graduated I find myself lost. I was s good student, yet have nothing going on, meanwhile some rock bottom students have more to their names that I have.
P.S. once I failed an exam an cried so hard and for so long because I knew I was gonna be in trouble _no matter that my grades were good until that point_. So I get you

The basic AO3 search function is a bit messy when looking at results - I did some quick scrolling through just the search results for ‘Ever After High’ and somehow found BTS, Original Works, Kuroko no Basuke, Revue Starlight, Sword Art Online, My Hero Academia, Minecraft, Star Wars, among others. It’s always better to go to the fandom tag for a franchise rather than just looking at the basic search results.

I tried to watch this once, but I found Rose to be so obnoxious that I never got past the first episode. She was constantly flailing about. Her voice had an awful pitch to it and she never stopped making noise. The dolls were cute though.

The punchline being that this wasn't inspired by the (far superior) Ever After High.

Not gonna lie, I actually despised this show as a kid because I feel like the main character is absolutely ridiculous and I would rather watch Ever After High other than this. Not to mention, I feel like some of the plot is unoriginal and even kid me thinks that the characters are too boring and generic. The romance and ship are meh too. I'm older now and I don't think the show is as bad as I used to think but I'd still prefer Ever After High.

I remember when it first came out and it was like the best show for kids....I was like 10.
If we're doing little girls shows they definitely need to cover it, if only for how big it was at one point.
That and so they might also check out Elena of Avalor and that spin-off's arcs and drama, and it's suprisingly high body count.

I’m no writer…but if I had written the show, I would’ve made the children/the grandchildren of other tales and mythology go to school around the area, and maybe they don’t get along with Regal Academy because it’s a mixture of different stories rather than just one…?

Yeah, that would've been better. It gives the characters more depth and it would make us root for Rose if she's more of got this 'outcast' kind of vibe. And then somewhere in the middle of the season or something, they all somehow get together cos of some big problem. That'd be nicer lol

i’ve seen a lot of anime styles do that, so that’s probably what they were going for. but they didn’t really execute it well…
I always see the hair as, like, plastic or something when an artstyle shows the eyes and eyebrows through the hair.
But as someone who draws in manga style, I'm a culprit if that, too, since sometimes hiding an eye with the hair can interrupt a really good expression 😅
Considering how Nickelodeon screwed over Legend of Korra and Miraculous Ladybug by not advertising it, blame Nickelodeon. They hate shows with girl protagonists and don't market it at all.

Man... Nick had a bad history on female aimed acquired shows since Winx Club. Miraculous, Kuu Kuu, Regal Academy, Mysticons, all screwed over by Nick in the late 2010's.
The reason the graphic novels for this show and the Winx club are so well done is because graphic novels are very popular in Italy, so they pay more attention to them. Very much so seen in the Italian book series Geronimo Stilton.
Oh I HIGHLY recommend looking into Twisted Wonderland, where characters inspired by Disney villains all go to school together!!! The Disney stories/films are essentially really old history/myths that have gotten fuzzy over time. I think it’d be fun to explore a more boys-centric look into this sort of “fairy tale magic school” sorta thing and your thoughts on it!

There are a lot of fanfictions of regal academy in wattpad, which consists of mainly pre-teens and young teens. AO3 generally had a wider and older age range.

Man the dark one is actually more interesting, like using the OG story instead of the Disney one. I can imagine alot of things, Snow White is a chem student with paranoia about people giving her food. Cinderella is an entitled kid that expects everything is given too her. Rapunzel trying too cope from her abusive mother. Alice is a psychology student that's also a drug addict and suffers from vivid hallucinations

Ironically Winx Club got an art overhaul in season 8 that made the characters look like they came from Regal Academy.

Ahhh it's cool to see someone talking about Regal Academy! I had a small obsession with it for about a month or so. I remember my mom recorded it for me and told me about it because she thought it was something I'd like since I loved Ever After High so much. This was back around when it first was coming out, so I actually haven't seen most of the stuff that you mentioned. I kinda want to go back and watch more of it, I agree that it was pretty uninteresting plot-wise, but I still think it's super cute!
I never watched the show, but I remember how I took the basic concept and went ahead to come up with a story where the descendants of the villains had their own school that’s abusive and shit. And sometimes some of the students from this school “nightmare academy” would come to Regal Academy just to mess with the good guys. And on one occasion the granddaughter of Maleficent “Cattiveria” (badness in Italian) turns the blue haired guy into a hawk (cuz that’s his name) and takes him back to nightmare academy. And while he’s captured Hawk learns how nightmare academy is very strict and demanding and how Maleficent is pretty abusive towards Catti. And he and Catti kinda fall in love.

I don't get why it was really that hated, to me, Regal Academy was just alright to me while being made by the same people who did Winx Club being a supposed similarity to Ever After High in a different way. The songs were pretty good though.

i love this show when i was a kid ,i actually still rewatch it time to time cause i find it just a genuinely feel good show , i wasnt really bothered with how rose can be so loud or all over the place cause ngl her actions reminded me of someone with adhd kinda the way she obsesses over shoes or fairytales i just found it something to deal with and as the season goes on , they toned it down , the show had a lot of potential i just think they needed to work on a few things, like maybe having more backstory on the relationships or pacing ,

Unfortunately, when looking at the list of fics that actually have the Ever After High tag and not just the ones that pop up in the search results, it is not winning. Which also disappoints me. But by my count Regal Academy does have 4, Winx Club has 1211, and Ever After High has 1014. That does include crossovers.
I don't blame him getting mad over Rose and Hawk didn't kiss in the show cause like COME OOOOOON! THEY FOCUSED THE ROSE X HAWK SHIP MORE IN SEASON 2!!! Yet they can't even make a SINGLE SECOND of them just doing ONE HARMLES KISS 😭😭😭😭

I used to watch that on citv. It was really great but the animation is really strange. I think it's a good show but it had little recognition unfortunately.
@@3rebella Yeah I was obsessed with that show when it aired on CITV. Admittedly the animation could be... wonky... at times, but overall I really liked the show’s plot. Shame what happened to it.
I think Mysticons also struggled with an uncertain audience. My guess is it was aimed at 7-11 year old girls but might've been trying to go beyond that & didn't quiet succeed. I'm thinking also that Piper was intended as an audience surrogate but she was the one of the 4 main protagonists that we knew the least about, with very little being revealed about her history prior to when she moved to the undercity & met Zarya.
There was plenty of scary drama even in the 1st/pilot ep with Arkayna's parents being turned to stone (which is the way they remained for most of series) so the dividing line for who might enjoy the series could fall between those who enjoy the drama of say Harry Potter (also fun but very dark & scary at times) & those who get nightmares from the scary parts of it.
why does so much of this remind me of "The Land Of Stories" with the being related to Cinderella, going to a fairytales are real world, learning magic, the dad being shocked when he learns about it cause he wasn't in on it, the main character being in awe of everything when she first gets there, the villain being defeated with something based on iconic from one of their stories, the villain trying to destroy the main royal families and bringing back the snow queen
The only difference is the land of stories had a twin brother, stakes, a deeper lore, and they focused more on like, the other fairy tale characters rather than their kids. Also the villains have actual reasoning to be villains rather than just being evil for evil reasons.
It does remind you of that since Rose Cinderella is like Alex Bailey and Princess Hope

I strongly suggest you guys read The Hunters Guild: Red Hood manga. It's an interesting take on the brothers grimm fairy tales.
Mercedes lackey has the 500 Kingdoms series, which takes fairytales and adds problems.
Basically, there's this force called the Tradition, that takes stories people tell often and forces people in similar situations along those paths. But what if you're following the cinderella storyline but the prince is a young child? Or the man who is meant to face down the djinn has no interest in the kidnapped women?
I'm incredibly confused because I can SWEAR I watched 4 seasons of Regal Academy. 4 seasons, not 2. Hawk had a long-lost sister, Rose and him seem to finally get together. There were quests they went on.

I’ll admit, I still rewatch this show sometimes mainly because I do genuinely enjoy the second season. But it definitely has its flaws, and Season 1 is rough to say the least.

I'm surprised to see it wasn't mentioned in this video, but there was actually a bus in NYC that was decorated with regal academy all over it when it started coming to america! But it is true there wasn't tons of marketing, the dolls other than the italian dolls that were sold in the US i only ever found any dolls were in toys r us before it got killed off. I'm not really sure how the european fans really feel either since I don't speak their languages but italy had magazine releases and several other toy releases that never made it over seas, after season 2 happened it's just considered to be on a hiatus and most people speculate it's because RAI was working on winx club season 8, and now season 9 too. Very strange situation
My country (Montenegro) had no merchandise of the show. It aired here in the beginning of 2017 and it stopped around 2019. In neighboring Croatia, I found dolls in Müller tho, but those aren't sold anymore.

When I found this show I tried SO hard to love it because the concept was so cool. In the end it was the music that did me in. Can’t remember exactly what it was but like, it played EVERY time the audience was supposed to be hyped up or something

I remember not liking the main ship (cause gods I hated Rose-) but I loved the song they sang together in S1, I think. It was beautiful (if I ignored that it was Rose xd)

That's not a burrito that's a taco. I know my foods and for sure that's a taco. I miss this show. It's hard to find them dubbed in English. It's in different languages. I love the beautiful animations, characters and magic. All the armor is so cool. I miss this show. :(

I'm almost positive the Taco vs Burrito thing was because legal made them change it. Because there is a beloved kids book called "Dragons Love Tacos". Since the studio is a bit cheap, they just did a sloppy dub, because re-recording lines is both faster and cheaper than reanimation.
I remember it! it aired for such a short time. literally only ep 1 and 3 aired from season 1- there was also NO advertisement. There was one trailer but that is it.
