I was more interested in the 14500 or 14400 for this generation for a barebones Asrock deskmeet b660. I was also hoping they would make the 14100 a 4p + 4e core configuration and finally ditch the 4 core entry chip.
Was thinking of possibly doing the 14700k, but after these reviews I think I will stick with the 13700k and hopefully get some of those saving (if the price drops).
Guess i made a good choice buying the i17 13700k at 390€ last week (which is around 340£ i guess?) I knew the 14700k was coming with 4 more eCores but since i'm on a budget I'm so glad I bought it!
Too bad. I was hoping to see an IPC improvement greater than just a few percent. I was hoping to upgrade my main system to a 14700K and move my current CPU into my VM/NAS homelab box. I think I'm instead just going to wait for 14th gen to push 13th gen prices down a bit and maybe get a 13500 for the homelab system and keep my main system as is.
in my opinion, I think the 18th gen would be the perfect time to upgrade or less depending on the circumstances even then your 12900K would still be good right now a lot of people don't understand how powerful are the 8th to 10th gen CPUs to 12th gen CPU people who have gotten addicted to upgrading sometimes when it's not even necessary or maybe because I am not yet in that level, right now I am using an i5 2400 paired with 16 GB RAM 240SSD with no dedicated GPU because GPUs are too expensive and have no issues, of course, I can't do much heavy video editing or animating or any other heavy program but good enough for what I do and it does it very well with modern software and tools I only upgraded to 16GB ram from 8GB DDR 3 and I have seen noticeable improvements in building a complex web application, for my next upgrade I am eyeing at the 13th gen probably an i5 or i7 or equvalent AMD counterparts paired with RTX 4080 if possible then stick to that until it can't anymore lmo people at the comments wanting to upgrade from 12th gen to 14th gen or 11th gen when it's not even necessary btw I would have upgraded a long time ago probably a 10th to 12gen or just an office desktop and upgraded into a gaming one but it's just that PC hardware is way too expensive it's just ridiculous especially if you live in a third-world country where prices for this hardware are equivalent to first world nation prices but low wages and very high taxes paying $300 for i5 13600K is like paying $900 or more just for a CPU alone 😔
Coming from a 12600K, I was expecting this to come down to a difference in price. But seeing how close performance is between the two gens, I'm not even sure I'd need 14th gen. The meaningful uplift clearly happens between 12th and 13th. I was eyeing the 13- or 14700K/KF as a replacement, but I think I'll stick with a 600-series CPU for now. Don't want to have to upgrade my 240mm Lian Li AiO which is just over a year old. Anyway: Currently I could get a 13600 KF for around €310 while the 14600KF is €318. With that small of a price difference, I don't see any reason not to go "14th" gen. Already checked my motherboard's specs and apparently it does support 14th as well as 13th gen. I should probably wait a bit to see if 13th gen prices will drop a bit more, but I reckon there's probably a lot of folks like me out there hoping for the same thing. And seeing how there's very little difference in performance between 13 and 14, I doubt 13 prices will fall dramatically.
Im currently running the i9 13900 KS in my PC build and the M1 pro in my Mac build. :) Im almost happy about them not making it much faster with the 14th gen versions..
