    Update: the artifacts on the VIVIMAGE Explore 3 in the sharpness test was caused by the digital keystone correction which was causing aliasing artifacts.
    If you want a brighter and punchier image, try these settings for brightness and contrast.
    Contrast: 42
    Brightness: 55
    If you are not using any keystone correction, I would recommend keeping sharpness at 10. If you are, experiment and see what looks good to you. Sharp without white halo artifacts. This will depend on how far you are from the screen.

      Hey i am looking at this projector, but i wanted to know if it had a digital zoom feature. My old Vankyo 510 had an option where you could digitally change the screen size, which is a must for me since we dont have the option to get the projector further or closer to the screen. Any help on this would be great!

      @@StoneBrosFilms Yeah still works just fine. I have it set up on a shelf in my bedroom and turn it on I would say at least a week and still to this day works just like it came out of the box. Haven't seen anything out of the normal nor have heard anything weird. The fans are kinda loud but usually the speakers do a decent job getting rid of the sound and more importantly when you start watching something like a movie you tend to forget the fan noise is there.

    So I got the Vankyo v600 way back when you first recommended it. Great for outdoor movies (pristine res not paramount, but hey, I don't want fuzzy), and the kids room (same reason). Worked great until about a month ago. It's been in use seldom before COVID and daily since. Huge amount of dust buildup inside near edge of lens, causing blur spots and edge fuzz. Tried compressed air. I ended up buying a second one and "returning" my first 😬 (don't judge me). New one works like a charm, although the lack of horizontal keystone correction does bug me. Sidenote: the first unit had fingerprints inside the lens that I could not access to wipe (didn't affect picture, but it did bug me). Looking fwd to a Laser 4k for the adults. Anyway, thanks!!

    Update: Maybe I got a lemon?:
    I bought this projector and was initially extremely impressed with the image quality. I wasn't ever going to use the projector's built in speakers but even they were impressive. However, the honeymoon phase ended quickly. Within one month of owning, it developed dead pixels. I tried multiple inputs and videos but, sure enough, the blacked out pixels remained. Once I realized that they were there and it wasn't my screen, I noticed that there several more spread across the image. This became an eye sore that I couldn't help but notice in any bright scene. I've also found that this EXACT same projector is sold under a different brand on Amazon (often for the same price). The other brand is WiMiUS and I believe the model is S1 but it is not listed in the title as of this post. That means that someone is manufacturing these projectors and selling them to whatever brand wants to stick their logo on them and Vivimage will not have any direct control over the manufacturing process.
    If I just got a lemon of a unit, then this is a great buy for the price. If this is a sign of production quality and you don't want to roll the dice, I would look for a used, highly reviewed model from a reputable brand.
    I was initially extremely excited by this product and price tag. However, considering that it was replacing my primary TV, I ended up opting to get a very slightly used and reasonably priced Optoma gt1080pdarbee and am very happy. Before sending the Vivimage Explore 3 back, I set the two images side by side and took comparison pictures and video. Message me if you are interested in seeing the results. While the Optoma easily takes the win in every category, it is interesting to see a comparison. When I bought the Vivimage Explore 3, it was just over $200. For that price, I think it is a great roll of the dice for what you get. Considering I spent $450 for my Optoma, I can safely say that while the Optoma is easily the better unit, I could not admit that it is $250 better. My ultimate recommendation is that this budget projector makes an excellent portable and fun viewing unit but if you want true cinema quality to replace or make your primary device for watching content in your home, opt for a lightly used and well maintained, highly reviewed, name-brand unit.
    Original post:
    Great video but I couldn't find any information on fps of this projector and it is driving me nuts. I don't want to pull the trigger if I can't verify it has an absolute minimum of 60fps (a bunch of these Chinese projectors are less and make it near unwatchable). Can you confirm a true fps? Thanks!!

    • @xForbin99
      @xForbin99 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's because you're looking for the wrong spec. Fps = frames per second = how many frames are rendered (by the output source). Display is measured in refresh rate. This projector is 60hz (which means it refreshes the image 60 times per second). Now if you're looking at it from a gaming perspective (like fps) than what is also very important is the input lag (which i can not find a spec on for this projector) but i would guess gaming isn't going to be great on a 250 projector. This thing is probably fine with video though

    @Joe N Tell I watched your video on the Vankyo 600 and bought it but one thing you should mention is that V 600 doesn't have that side filter to protect it from dust build up like the Vivimage has. I bought a Wiwius S1 that looks exactly like the Vivimage . I bought it for the better Keystone Vert, and Horo. and because of the filter. Had to send my Vankyo 600 back because of that build up causing a black film line down one side of the picture. They replaced it(nice costumer service) and now I put a piece of paper towel where the intake air goes into the projector. So far it is ok. Just wanted to inform you. Love the videos because you keep it 100!! You actually tell it like it is!!

    How's the refresh rate/response time/input lag? I watched a comparison between the vankyo v600 and v630, and it was brought up that despite a superior image quality/color reproduction, and the introduction of the digital keystone that the response time was severely lacking in comparison on the v630, as opposed to the 600. That being the case, given we both seem to be operating under the assumption that vankyo and vivimage are the same entity, I speculate that the v630 and explore 3 may in fact be the same hardware in different packaging. After your initial review of the v600 and comparison video, I was quite interested in buying the vivimage, but the other comparison video I saw between the v600 and v630 has made me wary. Thoughts?

    Hi, im the guy that sent you the video on you email about the two v600 that had weird different pictures. Yes i admit the blurry corners (even middle) is the most annoying part of the v600. Wgen using it with my computer its hard to read the letters.
    As for the noisy fan, i slowed down the main fan since its always in a cool enviroment (canada basement home theatre). And i changed the second fan for a 'be quiet' fan. Its much better. I also cut off the plastic grill covering the heatsink. That grill really blocked the airflow.
    For the price, its still a great projector. But if i hadnt modified it, i would have sold it and bought this new one just for the better sharpness/keystone.

    • @joentell

      I'm interested in which fans you used. Thanks for the follow up

    • @chefchutardo5215
      @chefchutardo5215 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I used 'be quiet pure wings' found the online on newegg. Was 13$ wich is half the price of the noctua fans that are apperently very quiet too. It was just a matter of adapting the fan connector to the oem fan pin in the projector (be quiet fan has 4 pins while the oem fan has 2 pins). The 2 extra pins on the be quiet fan is for speed monitoring when used on a computer.
      The be quiet fan is a lot more quiet, a bit less airflow than the oem fan in the projector. But cutting off the plastic grill on the heatsink compensated for that. And since its ised in a cool basement (usually 19-21 degrees). Im not too worried and the heat since this was designed to work even in hot enviroments like a hot house in texas.

    • @owaing
      @owaing 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You mean "Point to Point". It really does make a huge difference! No idea why it's under Aspect Ratios though, since it only changes the low and top end contrast to stop them blowing out/crushing, and does nothing to the aspect ratio. I didn't know the option existed until I read in a comment about it, since it's not documented in the manual, and isn't in the menu until you scroll down to the next page! Definitely makes a huge improvement. (For some reason it also disables the noise reduction menu too.)

I've tried the same shot on the Vanyko 600 and it wasn't there. However, the Vankyo 630 had a similar defect. It's too bad because in every other way the Vivimage Explore 3 is the better projector. I've returned one, hoping it was a defective unit and just got the replacement - same thing. I don't see it mentioned in your review or reviews by others. I really don't think I can live with it; it's extremely annoying on something blown up to 85", my screen size.

    Does this have a reduce image size? If so, what is the range?

    • @joentell
      @joentell  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It does have that option, but it isn't the same as some of the projectors with zoom functionality. Not sure the actual reduction size at the moment.

    Hi, thanks for the video. I just got this projector. I know a budget projector like this is going to have limitations, but still - compared to the overwhelming great reviews, I'm not really happy with the picture. Connecting my xbox via HDMI and the picture seems blurry and pixelated. Also the colors seem way off - red appears as pink (even after using your settings from this video). Is this just par for the course and to be expected for a projector at this price? Or am I doing something wrong? I am coming from a viewsonic PJD7820HD - this has about double the lux and is native 1080p while ViewSonic was 720p, so I was expecting this picture to be noticeably better. If anything it's the opposite.

      Blurry...maybe if you're using keystone correction. What happens if you don't? Mine was sharp. Colors are not excellent if you're used to DLP. But it's around $200. Most DLP bulbs are around $150-$200 to replace last time I checked.

      @@joentell thx for reply. very minimal keystone, but even when off the images can look pixelated. is the viewsonic I had previously DLP? The bulbs are currently $80. I wasn't aware of that difference really. I was just thinking this projector had higher lux + 1080 native so figured it would be a better picture.

      1) Projector brightness is not measured in lux, but in lumens. This is industry standard. Any company using lux to sell a projector is being dishonest. With that in mind, no matter how bright they claim this projector to be, your ViewSonic is almost certainly several times brighter.
      2) Yes, low quality images with non-uniformed focus, bad color accuracy, ghosting, and pixelation are pretty much par for the course for these cheap no-names. And they tend to have other issues, such as dust collecting on the inside very easily, further degrading the image.
      Honestly, these projectors are a complete rip-off at $250 when you can get a decent refurbished projector from a legitimate brand for about $130 more, with warranty. The Epson Home Cinema 1060 comes to mind here, at a whopping $379.99, with bulbs that are about $50 - $60 directly from Epson when it comes time to replace, and the same two year warranty that comes with a brand new 1060.
      If that's too expensive, they have the 760, which is a 720p projector, for $299. Even BenQ has a refurbished business class WXGA (just a smidge higher than 720p) that'll output 4000 lumens for $397, if you need something that bright. These both will still completely wreck those cheap 1080p projectors.
