I think Hardware Unboxed just released a video stating there was a driver update for the 7900 GRE which allowed more sufficient memory overclocking of the 7900 GRE which will boost it to be better than the 4070 super.
Great roundup, just what I was looking for for the 7900 GRE! Unfortunately, you forget to mention that the RTX 4070 Super with 16 GBs of VRAM is $800 at the lowest price point I was able to find. Unless you want raytracing badly enough to pay a $250-$300 upcharge, most people aren't going to care about that, and 12 GBs of VRAM on a premium card is frankly a joke. That's 7900 XT or XTX money at that point. Regardless, excellent rundown with concise, useful info. 👍🏼 All my thanks.
12gb is really a gamble when in the future, you might cant use Raytracing because the vram is being limited while if you dont use Raytracing then 12gb is actually a sweet spots without use more money. And surprised, even if 7900gre RT is bad compare to 4070S but it on the level of 4070 RT performance which is still nice.
Thanks for doing the AIB comparison video. I really appreciate the detailed thermal and noise charts. Gotta say, i disagree with a lot of your conclusions. At the ~$550 mark the GRE is the most interesting gpu on the market. It actually beats the 4070 (non-super) in lighter RT games and has enough muscle to beat it in raster in almost all cases. Any 4070 super that's worth buying costs closer to $650 in the US, and that's just too much for 12 gigs of VRAM. Also, neither dlss 3.5 nor RT are compelling arguments to support NVIDIA's planned 1 gen obsolescence scheme for cards. FSR is just fine at 1440p and higher for upscaling, and ray tracing is barely out of gimick territory and not worth the performance hit on most titles. I do agree that the value proposition isn't the best, but you can say that about the entire midrange segment. Almost all the cards are overpriced by ~$100 there.
Yeah, that 12g limit *REALLY* gimps the GPUs. It makes no sense that they're putting so little on... just to milk the market is all. Cards have been stuck at the 8-16g limit for over a decade (my ancient 1080s still run fine, and they have 8). By now they should have huge RAM capacities rather than assaulting our wallets to get 24. They need to enable scalable RAM on a vid card, just like they do on motherboards.
@@amzarnacht6710 sadly it's a recurring issue with nvidia cards - I'm currently using a 3070ti, which for my 1440p usage is still plenty powerful rasterisation wise. Dude really said amd needs price tweaking😂 The 4070 super is more expensive and only has 12gb of vram. The 7800xt trades blows very well with the 4070 and same again it only has 12gb of vram. It’ll simply age worse!!!! The 4060ti is still a joke of a card with the 7700xt being a much better deal. The 7900xt is going for $699 and it’s an absolute beast. Compared to its competition the 4070ti super that goes for $799+ the 7900xt offers again better value. Same goes for the 7900xtx vs 4080super. The 4080 super is $1000 and the 7900xtx goes for under $1000 on newegg
It's gddr6x vram not gddr6. You're not getting better value doofy you're getting a bigger amount of a slower vram bc they count on doofy gamers like you to not know the difference.
If you don't have Ray tracing turned on, typically an overclocked 7900 GRE the sapphire hitro Plus is on par most of the time with a 4070 TI super Ray tracing on it's somewhere in the ballpark range of 4070 super. Both of which cards cost a chunk more than this one

7900 gre should have replaced the 7800xt at the same price point much like the 4070 super did to the 4070. The Asrock model already costs wihtin $10 of the 4070 super here in Canada and the hellhound costs actually $30-40 more than the nvidia card, making it not a compelling value product. THe Nitro plus has yet to arrive in stores, but that will likely be even more expensive. The 7900xt needs a major price cut as well
If the 7900 GRE was $500, the 7800XT $450 and the 7700XT $350 I think we’d truly have a properly exciting lineup. Now Put the 7900XT at $650 and the 7900XTX at $800 and you’d actually have cards that offer a real improvement vs last gen for the money

Here in the US the 4070 Super is $50 more anywhere I look, and the GRE is 16GB vs 12GB. I'm upgrading from a 6700XT, and getting another 12GB card feels wrong, and the extra 4GB feels like it's more advantageous than the additional RT. If anything, DLSS is what I'd pay the extra 50 for, but the smaller frame buffer, less raster performance, and larger price is really making this decision hard.

you tube thinks we all are masters of the computer world, when when most of us in the hobby just want to make what we like work nicely. that's alll.I think the GRE for its money fits that bill.
$600 for 12Gb is a hard sell for me. If Nvidia would've released it at 16Gb I would definitely go that route for $600. Knowing Nvidia they'll release a 16Gb variant, at a premium of course. If you're one of those people that upgrade every generation then the 12Gb could be fine for the next year or 2 but even now some games are maxing out the 4070s 12Gb limit.
I got the pulse version and sent it back for replacement, after I noticed that the heatsink is bent on the right side, below the power plugs. But Now I noticed in the video, that both the pulse and the pure, also have this.. At least it seems. Is this normal? I´m now worried I might have the same situation with the new card..
I don't have the card anymore but it looks just part of the design, it's slightly asymmetrical, as long as your thermals are fine, nothing to worry about 👍
@@KitGuruTech Thanks for the reply! Will be getting another card but Idk what to expect.. I didn´t test the one I had tough. If I get another bent one, I will test it and if everything is good, I guess I´ll have to live with it.
AMD officially statet they will loosen the artificial clock limits, so any driver update will bring way better results than differences between partner models.
@@KitGuruTech Adrenalin 24.3.1 > results as predicted, with memory OC between 5-10% slower than XT. Maxed out OC varies, not clear if its the memory itself or the BIOS predefined memory voltage differing between partner models, time will show.
Can't deny the 12GB VRAM on the 4070S vs 16GB VRAM on the 7900 GRE though. 12GB VRAM is cutting it close now with a lot of titles and is definitely going to be a problem in the near future.
Bought the gigabyte version, as for some reason the Sapphire cards are hard to find for a decent price in my region. But the gigabyte version performs really well, but the coil whine is a bit rough
Which model i should bug please suggest me. Pure or gigabyte ? I am from canada. I wanted a white one but want good performance and quality so i can compromise that. Thank you
In my country the 7900gre and the 4070 are at the same price, the 4070 super is around 40/50$ more and is going out of my budget. Which one should i get? 4070/7900gre?
In Canada, the Gigabyte 7900 GRE is $749 CAD ($438 GBP) and the cheapest 4070 Super is $819 CAD ($479 GBP). Also the 7800XT which is only $699 CAD ($408 GBP). I have a 700W power supply at the moment, and think the 4070 Super is the better choice power draw wise. The AMD cards will push my PS too close to the limit and I don't want to mess with power limits or Undervolting.
🤔 everywhere i checked the 4070 Super is more expensive than the 7900GRE, the card with the same price is the regular 4070 and the 7900gre beats it even in some ray tracing titles while been way better in raster.
I got the Sahhpire Pure card cause I have a white build. The card is a beast and I don't really care the 4070 super has better RT. The raw power of the 7900 GRE is what I want and I gladly take the 16GB of ram compared to the 12Gb of the 4070 super. I got my card stable at 0.940v with a clockspeed of 2760. Thats impressive! Unfortunately I couldn't overclock the ram that much on my card and 2400Mhz is it's limit. Nevertheless this card is so good for it's price. I don't regret switching from Nvidia to AMD at all.
You may get a bit more performance out of a 4070 Super, but 12GB vs 16GB of VRAM, ok-ish RT performance, is it really worth it? You might get more longevity out of the GRE with the 16GB. I honestly feel that 40 series owners who are using 12 GB of VRAM are going to get screwed over like 30 series users with 8GB of VRAM. FSR 3.1 and XeSS 1.3 are looking to really compete well with DLSS and DLSS FG. A lot of Nvidia's heavily marketed exclusive AI tech is getting some very strong competition these days to the point you really have to pause the game and zoom in to see a tiny difference. AMD cards as of right now like the GRE or 7800 XT are worth it for 1440p gaming. Here in the US the cheapest GRE cards are going for 500-550 and into the 400's for the 7800 XT. Quite worth it, imo.
Yeah the extra VRAM is undoubtedly the key selling point for the GRE. It just comes down to if you think that's worth it over the other benefits of the 4070 Super - some might think it is, some might not!
Nvidia may have better RT, but the performance hit with even the 4090 is stupid. The flame is hardly worth the eye candy candle. My grandkids now have my 1080Ti FTW3, obviously no RT possible, but I use a 55" 4K TV as my monitor and did not miss RT (or care). I chose a PowerColor Hellhound 7900XTX as a replacement when they briefly went on sale for $900. The 4080 started at $300 more. With the more reasonable price of 1000$, I'm pretty sure AMD will be forced to drop the price of the XTX to $850-875 in the not too distant future. I play any particular game because I find it fun and not for how pretty it looks. I still play games on my SuperNintendo, PS2 and original X-Box. Some set of software geniuses figure out how to lower the obscene performance hit of RT and then I'll grant its a useful addon.
thats why i tell nvidia and nvidia fanboys sucks !!!! we grow up with master system, super nintendo and gameboy !!! who cares about rt !!!games are brilliant event without it !!!
Im looking at the stats and it seems the Nitro+ isn't worth 60$ more than the pure. (That's the difference in my country at least) I wasn't going for a white build but I might have too. 60$ for a led strip and lower performance is not something I desire.
Doesn't nitro+ use the vapour chamber way like the 7900xtx ? If yes, it would make sense for the motherboard to be standing vertically and not being lied down as shown in the video.
I've not seen any reports of that with a 4070 Super - it seems almostly exclusively 4090s which draw significantly more power (450W vs 220W), so I wouldn't worry about it
Dude obviously you would pick RTX4070ti Super a USD 850 over a RX7900 GRE a USD 550 card. The very fact that it tradr blows with a card that whopping USD300 more is in itself a miracle.
Asus tuf b650 plus or msi mag b650 tomahawk.... which one is better or both are almost same ?? in my country both are same price. Can you please share your opinion regarding this..
I'm getting really sick of the unnecessary shrouding on modern graphics cards. It does nothing but block airflow and trap heat. I expected better from Sapphire.
Got the XFX RX 7900 GRE last week. No coil whine detected. It's pretty silent overall and very cool too! Has not gone above 58C yet. Still experimenting with oc'ing.
You shoul re review FSR 3.1. The visual quality gap is tiny, now, it just changed in the past 30d. Also, the loss in fps and/or resolution quality is larger than the gain from turning on ray tracing on an NVidia card and most reviewers just dont understand this and foolishly go for bragging rights, not actual image quality ...

I cannot understand that on channels that are "professional" in analysis, they ignore (deliberately?) such important data as idle power consumption, power consumption with 1 or more monitors, multimedia power consumption. Does the owner of this channel know about the serious problems with idle power consumption of GRE? Have these problems been solved in 2024? Data that I can easily find on a thousand internet pages is of no use to me.
Or, you could get a 7800 XT for £100.00 less? Thanks for your fair review. I won't be getting a GRE, or the RTX 4070 Super. I think this gen has been a complete let down for tech enthusiasts. Plus we are due the next gen GPU's late 2024, possibly from AMD to. Oh, and Battlemage from Intel....
@@Chris.Thanopoulos Yea, I noticed the notes. Wonder how much head room there is and if the core will take kindly to overclocking the memory the way dedicated Vega GPU's did (once the core voltage was lowered for much more stable core frequencies, Vega thrived on faster HBM speeds).

Addition of Asrock would be nice
Hopefully some coming soon
Awesome video!! I love your reviews!
Thanks so much!
Anyone know when the next gen of Amd cards is due for release ? End of the year ?
I think around December or Jan 2025
I'd be surprised if it wasn't Q4 2024
What site did you use to pick up the Sapphire PURE 7900 GRE?
I got mine on NEWEGG.
AMD officially statet they will loosen the artificial clock limits, so any driver update will bring way better results than differences between partner models.
Hopefully that happens 👍🏻
@@KitGuruTech Adrenalin 24.3.1 > results as predicted, with memory OC between 5-10% slower than XT.
Maxed out OC varies, not clear if its the memory itself or the BIOS predefined memory voltage differing between partner models, time will show.
Sapphire is always the top for AMD, and I'm a big Red Devil fan. Had a 7900xtx Red devil and Nitro+, and the Nitro is just miles ahead
I def had to order The Asrock Challenger version of this card because I can’t fit a 3 fan GPU in my case ,all these versions are behemoths lol
Which model i should bug please suggest me. Pure or gigabyte ? I am from canada. I wanted a white one but want good performance and quality so i can compromise that. Thank you
Where did you mention that you're way better equipped for 4k with amds 16gigs?
In my country the 7900gre and the 4070 are at the same price, the 4070 super is around 40/50$ more and is going out of my budget. Which one should i get? 4070/7900gre?
If you dont focus on rtx go for 7900gre 100%
@@tradix3570 im more concerned with dlss, fsr and frame gen. I kinda want dlss and nvidia's fg but i dont want only 12gb vram
Depending on how many components you are running, 700W is plenty. 7900gre uses around 300-400W.
My 12 year old 750W psu couldn't handle the 7900GRE. Started to buzz while under load and gaming performance was terrible. A new 850W psu fixed that.
@jeroen1673 my 8 year old 650w has 0 issues
Quite like that Nitro..
Is it the nitro+ better than pure ??
I found rx 7800 xt nitro+ for 582 € and the pure for 555 € , is it worth to pay more 27 € for the nitro+ ??
This is a great video, but I don't know how to say this without sounding weird, but you have wonderful eyelashes lol
Thanks 😅
Glad to hear you are happy rocking AMD 👍🏻
4070 Super...costs more than every 7900 GRE (in the US) and with only 12GB of VRAM it could have a problem running newer games at 1440p or 4k.
The massive issue is the 4070 Super is a 12gb card is it not? For longevity surely the 16GB on the gre is a better choice.
ademas del cable adaptador de 12vhpwr que trae de fabrica se quema y deja de funcionar!
Ordered the 7900gre pure because it was the cheapest of them all. And look and behold it has the best oc clocks and temps. 😂
Good choice 👌🏻
It just comes down to if you think that's worth it over the other benefits of the 4070 Super - some might think it is, some might not!
good review Dominic!
Thanks!
The 7900 GRE doesn't use a vapour chamber, it's a standard copper baseplate and heatpipes
nice, that would explain the temps ig..
2652c 2390m 1025mv all the Radeon software suggestions for my steel legend. haven't tried anything else core runs 2681 in benchmarks
necesito saber que tanto suena la gigabyte porque me dijeron que es muy ruidosa y que tiene mucho coil whine, es cierto?
I wanted to buy the 4070 super but the 12 cable adapter according to several users BURNS! and it scares me
I've not seen any reports of that with a 4070 Super - it seems almostly exclusively 4090s which draw significantly more power (450W vs 220W), so I wouldn't worry about it
Is the sapphire pure rx7900gre good for 550 dollars?
9:24 how is it possible the Nitro+ is not better than the Pulse and the Pure?
My Nitro+ crash constantly if I lower the voltage below 1020 in AC Vahalla. How can your even reach 960.
Silicon lottery
bro got magnificent eye lashes
Thanks 😁
Dude obviously you would pick RTX4070ti Super a USD 850 over a RX7900 GRE a USD 550 card. The very fact that it tradr blows with a card that whopping USD300 more is in itself a miracle.
Asus tuf b650 plus or msi mag b650 tomahawk.... which one is better or both are almost same ??
in my country both are same price.
Can you please share your opinion regarding this..
Asus is better
go with msi mag b650 tomahawk.
My MSI mag tomahawk has been excellent.
msi for real to mobos !!!
Asrock
This for 450 CHF or a 4070 super for 550?
Pure is entry, pulse is mid and nitro is top tier but noise normalized temps says otherwise like how ?
sapphire making last years the best gpus no regret about it !!!!!!!
Hello does sapphire pure white has oc????
4070 costs way more than the 7900 GRE. Come to Japan and see for yourself.
Where is ASRock Steel Legend? RX7900 GRE
I'm getting really sick of the unnecessary shrouding on modern graphics cards. It does nothing but block airflow and trap heat. I expected better from Sapphire.
XFX Radeon™ RX 7900 GRE is this one worst? i seen its now about 30E cheaper then rest
these have utterly terrible coil whine
@@NeverSettleForMediocrity in the end i order gigabyte rx 7900xt cheapest one
Got the XFX RX 7900 GRE last week. No coil whine detected. It's pretty silent overall and very cool too! Has not gone above 58C yet.
Still experimenting with oc'ing.
@@jeroen1673 i gor rx7900xt gigabyte
lol the GRE is $50 cheaper then the 4070 super in the only market that matters.
but yeah $750 use when converted is too much for the GRE.
You shoul re review FSR 3.1. The visual quality gap is tiny, now, it just changed in the past 30d. Also, the loss in fps and/or resolution quality is larger than the gain from turning on ray tracing on an NVidia card and most reviewers just dont understand this and foolishly go for bragging rights, not actual image quality ...
disagree with you, 7900 gre after overclock is the best choice than 4070 super and easily
I got the gigabyte 7900gre and has not treated me badly at all.
How’s your temps ?
@@KitGuruTech This is my first build. I am getting 59c to 62c under stress test.

@@marlomartinez1094 This is similar to other benchmarks I've seen of the Gigabyte. It's quite impressive temperature wise. Seems like all GRE models are
Bro how do u end up concluding a completely different gpu? Lmao
Maybe I missed it; but 2 weeks ago AMD have acknowledged that there is a firmware/driver problem limiting the OC... has the fix been released? used in this review?
We've heard nothing official and certainly didn't see any change during testing for this video
they fix them today !!!
Hi, thanks for bringing it up, more power testing is absolutely something we are very interested in, stay tuned!
Nitro vs XFX?
Or, you could get a 7800 XT for £100.00 less?
Thanks for your fair review. I won't be getting a GRE, or the RTX 4070 Super.
I think this gen has been a complete let down for tech enthusiasts.
Plus we are due the next gen GPU's late 2024, possibly from AMD to.
Oh, and Battlemage from Intel....
Thanks for taking the time to comment
These cards are so expensive. I’d avoid them all. Gigabyte one is best imo.
What about the sapphire. Like it ?
So AMD has not fixed the overclocking "bug" yet - good to know.
today they fix it !!
Are XFX any good?
Yes. If you mean the XTX.
i always hated gigabytes nvidia plastic shrouds and noisey fans back in the day, but ever since i went to AMD i have used the Gigabyte versions from back in the day when i got my first 6750 XT and now i have the 7700 XT and i am beyond happy with their AMD designs, idk why but i feel they put more effort into AMD cards, they feel sturdy, strong, and arent annoying
I hear the fans, but they arent how do i put it, whiney or annoying, it just sounds like decent fans running fast and isnt sensitive to my ears and the temps are fantastic every time, no matter how powerful the card
sabes si la gigabyte 7900gre tiene mucho coil whine?
my steel legend can pull up to 320w with manual oc and undervolt
The cheapests RTX 4070 SUPER are crap. Why dont sey this ?
I can’t believe he said he finds it hard to recommend the 7900gre over the 4070super. Rt and frame generation aren’t a big hit or miss for majority of people plus considering the 4070super only has 12gb of vram its going to age worse over time
I love watching kitgurutech videos but I have to say this video is kind of boring when your comparing 3 of the same brand gpus with one gigabyte gpu, no asrock steel legend, no Asus tuff card, need some other brands involved
Trading in my 3070 for the nitro 🤤
Budget baller with xfx version because mr wallet says so 😂
