Great review mate, I really enjoyed watching it. I’ve had mine for a month now and it really is a cracking bike. I get fed up hearing it described as entry level (not by you!)…I’ve had 1100s, 900s & 800 s and this is the most fun I’ve ever had on a bike.

Glad you enjoyed the video. The 310 will/can go anywhere the bigger bikes can go, and more. You don't worry about wrestling a heavy bike. With some suitable tyres for your needs this bike ticks most boxes. may be an after market muffler as well.

I bought a 2018 as a new leftover in December 2019. I only have 3000 miles on it as I had a stroke in early 2020 and had to learn to walk again. I’ve had a few bikes in the 30 plus years I have been riding and this is by far the most fun and my favorite bike. Just this week I put a lowering link on the rear suspension and I love it even more. I now sit flat footed. Thx for the great review.

I love my Cosmic Black 2019 G310GS. I bought it new, in late October 2020 as a 60th birthday present to myself. The 2021 models were due in a few months and the dealer didn't want to pay taxes on the inventory, so BMW knocked off $1000 and the dealer knocked off another $400. I got the new bike with a three year factory warranty for US$4920 out the door. The three year warranty will expire in a couple of weeks and I never needed it. I've done all of my own maintenance as well as a lot of upgrades. I have 10,000 km on the bike in three years. I don't commute, so those are mostly day trips and a bit of motorcycle camping.
11:35 - I replaced the headlight and all turn signals with LED bulbs. The H4 LED headlight doesn't need rubber shock mounts like a halogen so I replaced the three rubber mounts with stainless fender washers and eliminated the annoying headlight flicker (to the point of dangerously distracting). The LED upgrade was cheap, quick and easy.
I only have one more upgrade I'd like to do - Seat Concepts tall seat with a heater, this winter. I'll put Shinko 804/805 tires on as soon as the original Tourance tires are done, and a lithium battery when the lead acid battery dies.
I wish I could double the size of the fuel tank. An ADV bike needs a 500+ km range.

Arrr. I’ve been buying suspension stuff from Izzie (and now his son) at Suspensions R Us for the last 20 years. Great company.
As I agree with the Tourance tyres. I used them for the whole of the 140,000km I did on my 1150GS.

40:00 - I installed Pivot Pegz (an Australian company!) and they greatly improved the ride of my 2019 G310GS. It also helped to install 30 mm bar risers for greater comfort seated on road, but particularly standing off road. I installed an inexpensive after market windshield that makes the G310GS much more pleasant when road riding and I didn't find it at all problematic for my mild old man off road riding.
The ABS button disappeared in 2021 but apparently the ABS isn't too intrusive off road.

Mostly a fair weather rider with not much off-road these days due to a dodgy back right now I’m tossing this and the mt03 around for my too pick for a new small cc runabout but this is winning out I think I like the design, the ergonomics and the dirt road capability. It’s my 30 stone I worry about but this should handle it

Thanks for the review, this is my first season on two wheeles, Im currently riding a small naked bike but my spontaneous nature pulls me towards something I could ride off road.

Good review Pete, it is a nice looking bike, you are so lucky in Australia to be able to ride such big bikes on a learners permit (up to 600cc I believe) in the UK we are limited to 125cc while learning, then you have to take your test on a much bigger bike for your full motorcycle licence, it is a big jump from a 125 to a 680 for your test, fun though.

Hi Juliana, They are cheap to run. Most small bikes are easy on the wallet/purse. the only thing that has changed is the engine oil and filter at 10000km. They are really good reliable bikes that will serve you well. Go for it.

    • @nilsolofolsson9067

To add to Full Pelts answer. Firs run in service at authorized dealer was around 320 USD in Sweden last autumn. For that you only get oil change and oil filter change and some checks . Rather expensive in my opinion. Probably cheaper in your country?.. And off course cheaper if you do it yourself. But with a new bike you may want a stamp in the service book. According to BMW run-in service with oil change should be done at 500 to 1200km. After that the service intervalls are longer.

The GS seems to have an enourmous fuel tank but it is all fake. It is 11,5 litres. It is covered with enourmos amounts of plastics that is put together by a large amount of srews and clips. Only to change light bulb is not very easy. Not good for an adventure bike. By the way Yamahas beginner bike ys 125 has a 14 litre petrol tank. Honda cb 125 f holds a similar amount of petrol as the BMW GS but runs double the length.

Thanks for your thoughts. Yes many Adventure Bikes could be improved. When manufacturing them to appeal to riders, they do at times compromise function for looks. Regards FPPete.

@@FULLPELTAdventures thank you, GS 310 is still a cool looking bike , I don't know the price other continents but in Europe retails 6400 euros , and cb500x 7000 euros , so it's not an hard choose over here.

@@rjsvids just did a price check here in Australia. CB500X is $10400, gs310r is $8400. So $2000 difference here. So thats about 1260 euro diff here.

@@FULLPELTAdventures 2000 is a lot of money , still CBX is a lot of bike.for example in Europe the vstrom 650 is 9700 and cbx50 is 7000 , big difference for just a little more. But now I understand why almost all reviews about the cb500x saying there is no competition are in Europe.
