It’s a good bike and it’s light. Makes it really fun and easy to ride around. 128hp is nothing to slouch at especially from a triple that makes 59 pound feet of torque. 6-8krpm is a great place to hang out when you’re getting ready to hammer down and take it to the limiter.
I just got mine a week ago it’s amazing. The bike will easily do 150. Full tuck I was doing 145 and it was still pulling. If it had more rpm or gear would prob do 160 before aero starts to get really bad
Nice review Ken, glad your still happy with the streety, as I said before we have had 8 modern trumpys over the years starting from the T509 in 97, never had an issue with any of them great bikes, Greatings from New Zealand, we are just coming into our summer, looking forward to our biking season. Stay safe 😊👍
After seeing your bike in person a while back, I have to agree with your criticism of the tachometer. It's really nice on my Street Triple RX having an analog tachometer that's easy to see and read. It's especially nice that I can set shift lights to come on in various patterns, and at different RPM ranges. Unfortunately, I think most manufacturers are moving to all digital displays, so it's very likely that you won't see many more analog units.
Yeah the tach in dash is such a let down, the old school analog was so much better. BMW, Ducati and KTM have all figured out how to make a cool and readable tach. Hell, the new Speed Triple dash has very cool and readable tach.
Hey There - I just got my 2024 RS a couple of weeks ago. I think the intention behind why Triumph designed the tachometer that way is for the rider to use the graphic INSTEAD of the actual number. If you adjust the way you're use to reading RPMs on other bikes by looking at the chart/graphic instead of the number, you'll find it's very useful. It may take some unlearning, but you'll find that it's actually pretty practical.
@nearsite I don't read the numbers on the tachometer when I shift, though. Like I said, I have shift lights that I can set to certain RPM ranges. Even if I was looking at the tachometer to shift directly, I would be looking at the distance between the needle and the red-line, not reading the numbers directly.
@@nearsite The problem with the the animated tach is its not linear. The low revs are not responsive enough to read, and when you get to the higher revs it moves to fast. This is why a sweeping or bar gauge works better. it does turn red when it gets to the limiter, but the engine is so responsive, and anything about 7500 the red comes on very quickly. I'm at a lost why they would not give a performance bike a proper tach.
@@Yo-Ken - First off, great vids! Your vids along with others helped me firm up my choice on picking up this yellow beauty! That said, I'm going to challenge you a little bit here, why do you need to know what RPM you are when you're in the lower rev range (between 2k-6k). Torque is readily available throughout the rev range and since the gearing is so short between gears 2-6, you wouldn't need to downshift. I guess in which scenario does knowing you're between 2k-6Kish rpms would it be helpful? Full respect, I'm genuinely curious.
Basically agree with everything you’ve said. I don’t have any real niggles with the bike at all and now it’s tuned at 130bhp at the wheel, it has that touch more injected attitude and response. We know the dash is a bit busy and could definitely be easier to read., Think as others have said before, an update to look like the 1200RS’ layout if thats possible, would be a great option to have. I may fit rear sets yet for track work and think the rear shock could be better quality as the oil gets quite hot and it gets spongey on a fast track day, but for road use, it’s fine! Another nice little review! 😉😎👍🏻
Thanks, I'm still waiting on a tune here on the US. 130hp at the wheel is very impressive. I don't see me hitting the track, maybe a drag strip, but my track is the street.
I've been going down the rabbit hole myself with upgrades to the my yellow: Evotech tail tidy, radiator guard & bar end weights (currently done). Carbon heel guards (in the mail) to replace the silver. Cruise control / sequential indicators, engine covers, frame & swingarm, colour matched windscreen (triumph genuine upgrades coming this week- don't need the heated grips in Sydney). I'm contemplating doing the upgraded & extended carbon rear hugger also. I have not looked at the exhaust currently, not really sure it's warranted, it sounds so good stock already.
It's addicting for sure, Triump accessorie catalog is almost as big as Harley davidson. The exhaust was a must, it does have a nice sound stock... but way too quiet.
I also took delivery of my RS in May,having ridden for 43 years I was hoping for something special. She hasn't disappointed ,my only niggle being the tacho. Everything else is excellent.
I have a 2021 R and I had the same exact stalling problem early on. Happened to me twice with about 3,000km on the clock. I’m at close to 40,000km and the problem never re-appeared. I’ve seen other videos (I think it was Petrohead) who had the same problem initially, but it disappeared as well. Weird. And yes, again and again until Triumph does something, THE TACH!!! 😂
That's interesting, I wondered if anyone else had the issue. It does amaze me how there are so my complaints about the tach, but after all these years they don't do anything about it. It just a firmware update, its a one time cost... it not like changing a part. I would gladly pay for the update.
@@Yo-Ken Aside from @PetroHead I think I may have watched one other video where the guy had the same stalling problem on his Street Triple. As for the tach, I’m really surprised Triumph is sticking with the current implementation. It’s bothered me so much (even if my 2021 R still has the analog tach, which I LOVE, BTW) I’ve even wondered if a third-party could write code to change it. Hahahaha!! I know, a little far-fetched, but so is my frustration that Triumph isn’t listening. Agree, even a paid software upgrade would be acceptable if only they’d change it. 👍🏼
Rev counter display options aside (and the absence of LED indicators on the US spec bike) it's hard to pick fault with the bike. Perhaps fuel consumption could be a little better and the revs could ideally be a little lower when cruising at 70-80mph. Cruise control could be fitted as standard, as you said. Maybe having the option to choose a remote preload adjuster like the MT-09 SP has as standard would be nice.
Heh, I think Triumphs may be a little more dependable than Bimmers. I was just watching a vid of a tech who has gotten really fast at replacing shaft drives in them. He says he's gotten a lot of practice ;) My Thruxton 1200 has over 60k miles and still gets 52 mpg if I don't hammer it too hard. Doesn't burn a drop of oil between the 5k intervals either. I had one issue with the bike. At ~40k miles a little dowl pin in the clutch assembly bent a little and made it hard to shift. I'm very pleased with Triumph's quality.
I wouldn’t bother adjusting valves on most bikes unless it was obviously running poorly. Long haul Paul put 180 k miles on a Yamaha tenere 700 and only changed oil filters plugs and tires once a month!
Hi Ken. I've been watching you videos since I started looking at Street Triples for myself back in July. I bought mine in September and have done 3400 miles so far. Interestingly I plumped for the 765R, not for financial considerations, I just liked it in white. (I then had to pay more for the belly scoop, seat cowl and bar end mirrors, but hey ho). Anyways... to the point: I'm quite interested in how you've got your phone mounted. I do have the Bluetooth module, but the Triumph Nav app is.. well,.. it's shit :D. Is that a bespoke bracket?, I can't quite see. If you've got a spare moment in a video could you maybe show it, or even an affiliate link to whatever you've you've got there. Cheers.
The Triple looks good in white... as for my set up. Well it's a mix... I used to use a handle bar clamp but found this set up recently. I'll post all the links below... I use a rockform case for my phone, and use the rockform mount with the 1 inch ball mounted to a ram mount short clamp and I use a Kewig mount that goes into the center hole on the triple tree. The reason for the ram mount clamp is for adjustability.
