Hi Margaret. I am a 56 year old male from the United States and I have been watching your channel for years now. I just wanted to let you know that I get a lot from your videos because there aren’t many people in my age bracket talking about issues that appeal to me. I loved Hearing your life story. Thank you so much for sharing and for all that you do for us older people. I know that your channel is geared towards women, and I think that’s great, I just wanted you to know that there are at least a handful of us guys out there😊
Unbelievably wonderful Margaret! This helped ME alot! Your 80 year old fan who has watched you for years! Going thru some tough times now aging, health, less money and your videos always help me to say, “I can get thru this”!
Gotta' love you Carol O' Brien. You are a true Matriarch and indeed well respected and cherished. Following Mag Manning for all these years puts you in the Magna Cum Lada of wizened women. How proud we hold you in our hearts and Devine your remarkable youthful, kindred heart. You are an effortlessly unforgettable woman, Carol!!
I'm 65, and only qualify for a 3/4 pension in Canada as an immigrant, with a sporadic work history due to being a stay at home Mom, then divorced and a single parent, so I too am facing an uncertain financial future, in common with many other women in my situation. I've just discovered Margaret's videos and am finding them very helpful, not least because of a sense of connection with other, older women.
Thank you for your beautiful story! I too was very poor and sickly as a child. There were 5 of us . Daddy worked 3 jobs! Mama ironed clothes and sewed for the neighbors! I love people too! They are mostly kind. I had the good Lord , a strong work ethic, anyway my family is mostly passed away now. I feel fortunate to have survived to 68 yrs old! I still love life and hope to live to be 100! I am grateful for every day! A gift!
You shared beautifully. We are all beyond lucky that you are doing this. There is no way we can ever thank you enough. Honestly, through all these years, I feel like I knew you, but now so much more so. You truly are a part of thousands of people’s lives and now, this!! Be proud and feel really good about yourself. You rock!!!
Although we've not met, I feel you are a dear friend. Your gentle, strong spirit infuses all your presentations. Thank you for sharing your life story. Emotions are high when we look back and I'm sure it took some grit to talk to us today.
Thank you for sharing. I was born in 1946, and we moved a lot because my father worked for the TVA (Tennessee Valley Authority). I thought everybody moved a lot. Also, I thought everyone ate dinner at 3:30 in the afternoon because that’s when we ate. My dad left for work early at 4:30, and when he got home he was ready for dinner. I was accustomed to new school and new friends. I continue to be a strong woman at 75. Looking forward to your next video. Don’t worry about anything that you say because we all have a story. It’s all history and we can’t change it. You are such a wonderful lady. Thank you again for sharing. 💜Jeanette Turner, USA
I absolutely loved hearing this story about your life ! I understand how hard it is to share your most intimate details of your life. You have a fascinating life story that has shaped you into the wonderful woman you are today ! You have helped me thru the years so much and I thank you for sharing your history ! I am looking forward to the rest of your video series about YOU !!! 😘😘😘😘
You are such a sweet person! Clear voice! I'm 58 now. Live in Europe. But I feel more 'connection' here then with my neighbours. 😏 Thank you. Thank you.
It was so touching to hear about your life Margret. It is so private and to talk about it on youtube and share it with the community to I find it courageous. It was very moving for me. I am at a turning point as well in my life. I just feel I will cry. Much love to you from Paris/Marseilles
My mom was a war bride. When I was 9 my mom, brother and I sailed on the Cunard Ascania from Montreal to Liverpool, 10 days each way, where we spent 3 months visiting my Nan and cousins in Sevenoaks, Kent. Poor dad stayed back to work! Those 3 months were one of the most memorable and sailing on the Ascania was so much fun - except for the 3 days of sea sickness!! Loved this video, Margaret, and looking forward to your next one.
Margaret, over these years, your Sixty and Me videos and blog have significantly impacted my life with the thought-provoking topics, fun with such things as make-up ideas, and just a feeling of belonging to this community of women. I am sincerely grateful to you. Now, your courage, grace, and generousity in sharing your life story not only speaks of your dedication to the mission of Sixty and Me, but has already encouraged me to reframe and understand parts of my own childhood. I'm looking forward to hearing and understanding how your life experiences created the woman who is making such an impact on so many lives. Sixty and Me is surely a calling, Margaret. Bravo you!
Margaret, why was I tearing up as you were? Because, I felt your emotions, and really isn’t that what’s truly beautiful about being human. I look forward to the next chapter....
Margaret i love your channel i was born in 1951 and i remember how hard life was after the war. We had no fridge washing machine or TV. When we finally got a colour TV the dog knocked it off the sideboard and it was smashed to pieces. My Mum and i cried for a week as we couldn't afford another one. It was many years later we were able to buy another one. In those days people did not buy things on hire purchase. The 60s and 70s were happy years for most people. If you didn't like your job you left and a day later you had another job and another untill you found one you liked. Yes those were the good old days. 😀
Margaret, you’re so right that our childhoods affect our later lives in such big ways. Your talk brought back a lot of my own memories, some not happy ones, but they made me who I am. I just try to stay in gratitude for everything I’ve experienced. Thank you !
Thank you Margaret, I too moved 12 times in 12 years of school. Sometimes twice in 1 year. High school I was there 2.5 years so I made friends and even went to prom in a dress I made.
Margaret..you are a very strong lady..thank you for sharing a little piece of your world, brought tears to my eyes.. You described yourself poor, but I grew up in an old farmhouse in upstate NY with my grandparents, funny, you spoke of not having a lot, our farm was a working farm, cows, pigs, chickens, all vegetables, fresh milk, nothing came out of a can, unless it was canned by grandma. As a child, going to school, I also was very quiet, did not make a lot of friends. I came home one day from school after being teased, I lived in a farmhouse, I went to my grandmother, asked if we were poor, she told me, which I want to share with you, “grandma told me, we don’t have material things, but we are humble, we cook everything from scratch, but if someone came to grandpa, wanted to purchase eggs, milk, or chickens, they could not afford, he would shake hands, when Friday came, the person or persons were at our home paying grandpa for what they owed him., so grandma always said I word was as good as gold, always to be honest, pay as you go”, I still remember her words. Margaret, our growing up is very similar, I did not have brothers/sisters, I was an only child. My mother had me, came home from the hospital, my grandmother, Aunt Mary raised me, I was born after the wars. My heart pours out to your father, who, I believe any young 18 year old going off to war, never comes back the same. Thank you again for sharing a part of your history..you are an excellent speaker, very calming, easy to listen to. Sending hugs 🤗🤗🤗🤗
Margaret, thank you so much for sharing of your life: I was born suburbs of Belfast 1943, I relate so much to your life story for my Father and my mom’s brothers were conscripted World War 11: emigrated to Toronto 1982 with husband and children. I can relate to your location in Canada. I am totally enthralled with how articulate your sharing , your integrity shines through I love how you shared, You * were a good girl 👧, my life was very similar. Mary Canada 🇨🇦
Thank you so much for sharing your early years with us Margaret. The loss of your Mother at such a vulnerable age must have been devastating. I admire your strength and dignity Margaret you are such a lovely strong and inspiring woman. Thank you for bringing sixty and me to so many woman and it has personally helped me in many many recent challenging situations.
Margaret - how brave of you, what a story and some of it is, clearly, tough to share. You are to be admired and I look forward to the forthcoming instalments - would you consider sharing a picture of yourself as a young person. I feel you have always been elegant and I would love to see that I’m right!!
Thankyou Margaret . You are a strong woman and can do what you have to do do in this life . The fact that you do it with grace and creativity makes you special .
I also was raised by an aunt an uncle without much money. It gives you strength an independence. My mother died at 55 and I'm an artist. Very Bohemian. The kind you used to like to hang out with. Karel here.
How very kind of you to share your life with us! Growing up in the 50s, 60s, 70s was such an interesting time-the world changed so much and gave us so many opportunities…. Love your makeup and hair today! I’m looking forward to more of your fascinating stories😀
I believe we baby boomers have had the BEST time in history to have grown up - our music, the empowerment of women, the advent of technology. All of it were incredible to be a part of. Even my son has told me that we had the best music ever, LOL!😎✌🏽🇺🇸
Margaret, you blaze a path for the rest of us aging women with your sweetness and ability to be vulnerable. Thank you, I feel like I found a kindred spirit in you.
This video resonated with my life too, as we had very similar experiences when young. Thank you for being so brave and open. I was born in Nov. 1951. My father was a WWII combat veteran who had been a prisoner of war of the Japanese. He had severe PTSD and he was never able to get rid of experiences and became an alcoholic. We moved every year too, so I understand what you went through. In 1970 I also wound up in Denver where my mother had moved. I went to college there for a year at Metro State, before I wound up moving back to Oregon. I also met some very memorable people in Denver, although I was there only a short time.
There's a book here! What a story. I grew up in the UK and had school friends who left for Australia. Your story covers the experiences of our generation. Very good of you to share this and shed light on where you and we came from. A brave thing to do. Thank you!
Wow! Thank you for sharing your life’s story, Margaret. I never would have guessed HS in Detroit, what a lovely surprise. I’m sorry for what you needed to endure, but like you, I appreciate the challenges for the lessons they’ve provided, & agree we each wouldn’t be who we are today without them. Thank you again for sharing your childhood with us. Hugs
You were very gracious with all of this, Margaret. And you just sparkle and have the most beautiful face and smile while you are speaking of your family. Bless you, and thank you for sharing. Hearing of other people's life struggles and joys helps me through my own.
Thank you for sharing your story Margaret and for being so open, honest and vulnerable. The world back then was totally different and scarcity unfortunately was the norm. The absolutely lovely woman you are today does not show any signs of hardships or bitterness-so kudos to you! This fellow Torontonian cannot wait to hear the rest of your story! 😊💖
Thank you Margaret. I loved how you only saw the Hollyhocks in the garden, not the industry behind the house. That immediately shows me your whole attitude for your life. Your ability to notice the pleasant things in life no matter what else is going on around you. When you have nothing as a child, it really makes you notice the little gentle specialness of small things like a cute fan. I am looking forward to hearing the next installment.
What a wonderful gift you are giving all of us, Margaret. I feel so much admiration for you in telling your story. I doubt if very many women can do the same - where does this fear of being judged come from? You bring a lovely feeling of understanding, and being understood and that is probably the key to a peaceful happiness. Thank you.
Your just the sweetest person with a beautiful spirit so enjoy hearing you , all of us have hard times we go through and difficult family members that we must overcome but keep loving and being thankful
Tqvm Margaret for sharing yr lifestory. I love yr videos which hv helped me to always stay positive now I am in my early 60s.and no longer working full time. Pls know that you hv touched my heart plus many many more hesrts all over the world!
Thank you so Much for sharing Margaret! I know it must be hard to relive somethings. But it is what makes us who we are for all the good and bad things we live through, You are an amazing person.
Oh Margaret this is so nice of you to include us in your life experiences.......I cried with you when you mentioned your Mother's passing you were young been a fan for a very long time you I believe are the sweetest woman on u tube looking forward to hear about your life stories ❤️
Thank you! You are amazing in how through adversities that you have such a gentle heart and good attitude. You seem to know who you are and what you want. I’m 75 and I feel the same way. I think the way we grow up and our childhood shapes us into what we become later on. Even though some times are hard it’s a good feeling to have kept on the path forward and end up knowing what we want and what we like. It makes our later years in life actually a pleasure because we value and appreciate each day that comes our way. Thank you again for sharing and may God be with you.🙏❤️🦋
Thank you beautiful lady, for sharing your life with us. My birthday is 17th Nov so we are fellow Scorpios 😀 Take care and much love from New Zealand x
I too love the clarity and vulnerability with which you tell your story Thank you Margaret Wish I had one friend like you here in UK where I live. People in this place are very much keeping to themselves and not many are friendly with EM
This is the video I have been waiting for. Thank you for sharing. You are like the older sister I never had. You are a beautiful inspiration along this wonderful journey of life!
Dear Margaret It’s Marilyn from Bali once again. Your personal story brought tears to my eyes. Your honesty and integrity is so refreshing and is seen so rarely these days so thank you. I was so surprised to hear your family settled in North Bay, Ontario as this is where I have retired to and have been living for the past 7 years. It is a lovely area. I’m sure it has changed quite a bit since you were here. If you would ever like to return for a visit you are most welcome. Take care and I look forward to your next video Margaret.
Thank you for sharing your early days. I am the child of an American soldier and an English Wren, so much of what you talked about was parallel to our family. We moved every 18 months due to my Dad's army career and I had a wee little weep with you as you spoke about those people skills that were forced on yound children due to circumstances entirely outside of our control. I must say though, I am still able to enter a room full of strangers and find my "spot". I look forward to learning more about you life as you answer questions in your honest, charming manner. Thank you so much!
Thank you Margaret for your courage in telling your life story and for your commitment to Sixty and Me. I look forward to hearing your future life experiences. ❤️
Thank you for sharing, Margaret! I was born and raised in Windsor. 😊 Also lived in Toronto and London and had a business in Chatham. Small world. Hugs!
Thank you for sharing your private personal experiences of life with us. Our early years definitely affect and Define who we become as adults. You're a truly gracious woman, and I'm glad you're here for us.🐣
Hi Margaret I what a beautiful lady you are and I joined you 8 years ago at a time when i first on my own and Thank You for the wonderful smile and positive attitude and love and kindness You are amazing and I hope you will get through the challenges you are facing at present will go away soon I will be praying for you🙏❤️ Veronica From Ireland
Thank you so much Veronica. It means so much to me that i was able to help when you were going through a rough time. I am very grateful for the reciprocal good wishes. Must come visit Iceland one day! Take very good care. x
I've just now found these older video's that I missed. It's fun to learn that you were in Detroit for a bit. I was born there and spent the first 12 years of life there. You had a lot to deal with in your childhood. You are such an amazing person. Thank you for sharing. ❤
Amazing to look back and see where our strengths came from.I very much appreciate your doing this for your followers who I know will hold your heart through your story as you have held us in our struggles..You mean a lot to many.
Thank you, Margaret. Love hearing about your life. I was born in April, 1948…also graduated H.S.1966. It was a difficult time considering all that went on in history with Kennedy death, Vietnam war, hippie culture, etc.…I too was a moral, disciplined girl…still am! We were not poor to your degree but being oldest of 7, there was not extra money. How sad that your mother died so very young. I too could go on from there with my story as I think we all have an up/down life. I feel sad that my children/grandchildren know very little about my life. No one seems interested really. So I think you putting your life story on video is a great thing even if it wasn’t always rosy. Doesn’t hurt future generations to know life has its ups and downs. Waiting for Part 2! Just thank you so very much. I understand it’s probably very difficult to talk about the valleys, but it’s actually healing. Be blessed as you remember “this is your life.”
Wow Margaret I just found your channel by accident yesterday and have been watching tons of your videos. But hearing your story has really got me hooked. I feel like a kindred spirit. Who would have thought that someone living in Switzerland had anything in common with a girl from metro Detroit😮 my Parents were Canadian, after they got married they moved to Detroit. I go by Chatham Ontario all the time, have family in Windsor and Toronto, and Royal oak, I was only only six when the riots hit. They were in 68 remember the curfew? The impact they had on my life is I couldn't walk to my friends house down the block and I couldn't swing on my swings in our backyard because we lived off a main road. As a six year old that was my take away. But I do remember my parents fears. Hazel park had the racehorse track for the trotters. Royal oak is very cosmopolitan now. Detroit is really making a comeback and you would never recognize the 401 or #2 hwy ride from Chatham to Windsor Ontario still lots of farms but very built up. Love to share some pictures of your old places with you.
Hi Margaret, I've been a subscriber for a few years now and don't feel I have ever commented on your channel. I learned that we have the same birthday. (I was born in 1956). Thank you for sharing more about yourself and being vulnerable. Maybe you ought to consider writing a autobiography as you are so creative as well as an educator and world traveler. Perhaps a book on your travels too. I love your travel pics and the doors you take pictures of. They are so unique and colorful like us humans. I love your channel. Thank you too for always being upbeat, smiling and positive. Sending you love and hugs. 🤗❤🥰
Thsnk you for sharing your personel life story. It is always interesting to me what others have gone throug in their life that makes them so special. ❤
That is amazing my parents lived in Acton after the war. My brother Paul was born on April 23, 1947 in the Queen Charlotte hospital too. They came to Canada in 1948 to Kirkland Lake Ontario another Northern town😃
Thank you for sharing your early life Margaret! I'm sure it's comforting for others as it is for me to know we all have life experiences in common. Looking forward to more of your stories!
Margaret, like you I also graduated from Hazel Park but in 1967. I came to HPHS in 10th grade after moving 10 times in my earlier years. I don't think we knew each other but feel that we have a lot in common. Thank you for sharing your life with us. Oh, and by the way you look beautiful!
Thanks for sharing Linda - you might want to join the Hazel Park Facebook Group - there are a lot of lovely people still sharing and talking with eachother! x
@@sixtyandme Hi Margaret. I am a member of the facebook group for your class and also I started the facebook group for 1967 group. I organized our last class reunion through fb. We have a lot of the same friends, I'm sure. Have a great day!
Margaret you are such a lovely speaker and you come across so well. Thank you for sharing ! I just came across your channel this week for the first time on the day I wished one of my old school friends happy birthday to her 60th! Then there you were on TH-cam and I’m not 60 yet 😂 ( but in October!) ….. I have worked since 2015 as a local guide in the country I’ve lived in for the last 25 years and I get asked questions a lot about me and not so much about the region I’m showing to the many many people I show around. All usually 60 plus! It’s very pretty where I live. So your story today reminded me that perhaps next tour season I should open up a little more as us humans are always so curious. It’s lovely really and you inspired me today to rethink what brought me here to SW Germany and made me stay! Keep up your good work. You do it so well what I saw so far. Thanks….🍀🍀🌹
Thank you so much Margaret for sharing your emotional hardship and personal journey 💚🙏. Sending you much love and lots of blessings.😇 I really enjoy the diverse topics of your “You Tube” channel and you inspire me every day! God Bless for all that U do and for all your tenacity to remain true to yourself! 🙏🌼💚

You are so welcome
I currently live in North Bay! Just found your channel. Thank you.
Thank you so much hat must have been very emotional for you. You’re brave and inspiring. Big hugs to you. xx
Beautiful sharing. Thank you Margaret ❤
This is fascinating! Thank you, and what a gift to your descendants, this memoir.
Hugs
Thank you for sharing your life so vulnerably Margaret. My mother also passed away at 50 (cancer).
This Torontonian is waiting with baited breath too! Thanks Margaret. We all have our stories, don’t we?
I too love the clarity and vulnerability with which you tell your story
Thank you Margaret
Wish I had one friend like you here in UK where I live. People in this place are very much keeping to themselves and not many are friendly with EM
This is the video I have been waiting for. Thank you for sharing. You are like the older sister I never had. You are a beautiful inspiration along this wonderful journey of life!
I have also been waiting years for this video - just fascinating. Thank you Margaret for sharing.
Dear Margaret
It’s Marilyn from Bali once again.
Thank you so much Marilyn! You are such a kind and beautiful woman. I have placed you now in a special place in my heart x
@@sixtyandme Thank you Margaret, that is very kind. Maybe one day we will meet again. x
Amazing woman brave strong woman thank you
Look forward to next segment
Lovely of you to let us all into your private life.

Thank you for sharing your life with us, Margaret. You are a kind and inspiring person. I look forward to the rest of your story.
I've just now found these older video's that I missed. It's fun to learn that you were in Detroit for a bit. I was born there and spent the first 12 years of life there. You had a lot to deal with in your childhood. You are such an amazing person. Thank you for sharing. ❤
Amazing to look back and see where our strengths came from.I very much appreciate your doing this for your followers who I know will hold your heart through your story as you have held us in our struggles..You mean a lot to many.
thank🤗 you for sharing your story Margaret!
Well done Margaret.
Bravo 👏🏼 love to hear your life/ just like sitting and talking to a new friend love love 💗 it.
Margaret. Thank you for all that you do. You are an inspiration to all of us. Best wishes. Joan, Manchester.
You are so welcome
Thank you, I always look forward to seeing you.
I was born in Queen Charlotte's, and lived in Acton! Small world Margaret.
YaY! Excellent still photo Margaret!👍🏻
Wishing you a speedy recovery ❤ 🍀 xxx
Thsnk you for sharing your personel life story.
It is always interesting to me what others have gone throug in their life that makes them so special. ❤
Thank you for sharing your life story ❤😊
Sweet Margaret, what a lovely video, thankyou for revealing your early life, blessing to you xx
So wonderful...we're the same age ...you're a strong woman!!!
Linda Ratliff was my maiden name.
Thanks for sharing Linda - you might want to join the Hazel Park Facebook Group - there are a lot of lovely people still sharing and talking with eachother! x
@@sixtyandme Hi Margaret. I am a member of the facebook group for your class and also I started the facebook group for
1967 group. I organized our last class reunion through fb. We have a lot of the same friends, I'm sure. Have a great day!
Love and appreciate you even more after hearing you’re early life. No wonder you have such uplifting positive attitudes!
Thank you for sharing such vulnerable parts of yourself with us. You are strong and courageous to do so. Love you too.
Thank you so much for sharing your wonderful story!
Sending you much love and lots of blessings.😇
I really enjoy the diverse topics of your “You Tube” channel and you inspire me every day! God Bless for all that U do and for all your tenacity to remain true to yourself! 🙏🌼💚
Very good story. Looking forward to the next part of your life’s adventure.
Hi Margaret,
I'm currently living in metro Detroit, near where you grew up. Crazy small world.
