    Great video! I think I now can create lots of "meta" colors, so I can have colors like "wallpaper1", "wallpaper2", or "test_lbg", "test_dbg" etc. and I hope I can much faster cycle through different designs without accidentially merging colors together ( e.g. by using "select by type and color" and then switching to a common color that is used at many more places).

    What about multicolor?
    It's about two colors together
    Like a fire Lego piece
    Red translucent and yellow translucent

    • @unpixelled

      This is a more complex colour as you'd need to create a node to manage things like gradients, patterns and anything else to separate the two colours, while that is possible this tutorial was primarily about basic colours and colour concepts.

    Could you upload the file for your skopio upgrade moc? or the instructions? I know it has some pieces that are not in the existing colors but I'd still love to have one someday. I'd be willing to pay too

      @@unpixelled hmm is there a way I could download the files and see the pieces in place with it built or something? That does sound like quite a lot of work. I'm mostly curious to see how feasible it might be for me to build it in the future (I know it would be expensive) Thanks!

    Two questions:
    1. What's the difference between CategoryName and category nickname? Do you just make them the same?
    2. The RGB numbers are meant to be decimals between 0 and 1, but every hex to RGB converter I try gives me double digit whole numbers greater than 1. Am I doing something wrong here?

    • @unpixelled
      @unpixelled  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      As far as I understand it, category name organises them into stud.io's list of colours, making them appear under that (solids, metallics etc) whereas colour nickname lets you make a different new type to appear under ("luminous (render only)" for example).
      So I use google's RGB stuff to get colours, first pick the colour you want, get the Hex code and the RGB values, divide the RGB values by 255 and you'll get them in decimal form. Then use the hex code and decimal form RGB values.
      Hope this helps!

    Hey, I'm having an issue with rendering custom colors - they look way too bright compared to the default colors. I tried to make a variation of black with a tiny tint of blue and in renders it comes out looking lighter than even the default dark blue despite it being almost black in value. Are there any currently available solutions for more accurate rendering?

    • @unpixelled
      @unpixelled  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It may be due to the render mode you're using and some other elements in your colour, without seeing your code I can't do much else other than recommend you use lower values.

    If we're creating a completely custom color, we can give it whatever numerical ID we want?

    • @unpixelled
      @unpixelled  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, provided it doesn't clash with any existing colour IDs, that's why I recommend starting in the higher thousands to be safe.

    • @unpixelled

      As in a part with a decal already applied? There's no way of doing this I'm afraid, you'd need to edit the artwork manually and apply it to the part in Parts Designer.

    Hello, I've tried following this tutorial to make a custom colour, but I'm having issues with the rendering. The render doesn't come out in the shade I want, and changing the RGB values in the Settings file doesn't help. Even when I change the RGB values in both the Definition file and the Settings file to something completely random, the render still has the exact same shade as before.
    My first thought is that, for some reason, stud.io isn't detecting the new colour in the Settings file, and is instead using a default colour that just happens to be close. However, I've already had that issue, and fixed it (I think).
    Can you think of anything else that could cause this?
