  • Our three 'big' girls made the next move in their journey back to a life in the wild when they graduated to our Ithumba Reintegration Unit in December 2016.
Watch their journey, which began with an incredibly early start at 3.30am!

Established in 1977, the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust (SWT) operates the world’s most successful orphan elephant rescue and rehabilitation program, rescuing and hand-rearing orphaned elephants and other animals that have lost their mothers, all too often as a result of human activity. But we do much more than this. Through our Aerial, Anti-Poaching and Mobile Veterinary Units, we safeguard the natural environment and provide immediate assistance to wild animals in need. We also secure irreplaceable wilderness areas so that animals will always have space to roam and work with local partners and communities to ensure people and wildlife can live alongside one another.

Whoever designed the elephant transport trucks should receive an award. They are so thoughtfully designed not only for the comfort of the animals but for the keepers to be able to attend to the elephants during the relocation process. Bravo! 👏🏼 👌🏼 👍🏼

Mokala How long have you been sponsoring the baby eles?
When they send you your monthly newsletter, is it only about your four, or is it about all of them?
If infant elephants die, do they tell you in these newsletters? I watched a video this morning about two different rescues that were on the same day, two tiny infants, in 2013. The viewer gets the impression that they will all prosper and live, and then down in the comments, a responder said that they both died at 6 months old. Is there a way to learn what happens with them? Why they died? How they're doing, beyond the ones you're sponsoring?
Obviously, I want ALL elephants to prosper and live forever.

Little Roi !Love seeing all these babies thriving with the love and care they're given! Where is Roi,now? Has she gone out and joined a wild herd? Is she stillthere? I'm not on Facebook,so don't know how to ask about any elephants I've fostered. I'm happy to know that in the care of the DSWT,they are all in good hands!

Wonderful video about these sweet elephants. It's nice to see how the elephants are treated and how happy they are. Also thank you SO much for the video being a bit longer than usual. We could watch HOURS of these scenes about the newest and older elephants interacting and just their everyday routine!

Loved this video, the drone footage and Benjamin recapping with "they showed so much love to the new babies!" I'd luv to see video of just what happens when the keepers wake up the babies in the early morning hours to coax them out to escort them to the truck. :-)

One of the keepers was concerned about a new baby orphan not being adversely influenced by OLTAIYONI. THAT was so funny to me since ALL these poor li'l orphans need so much help. God bless the folk at DSWT for providing what we all should try to:/
