    Established in 1977, the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust (SWT) operates the world’s most successful orphan elephant rescue and rehabilitation program, rescuing and hand-rearing orphaned elephants and other animals that have lost their mothers, all too often as a result of human activity. But we do much more than this. Through our Aerial, Anti-Poaching and Mobile Veterinary Units, we safeguard the natural environment and provide immediate assistance to wild animals in need. We also secure irreplaceable wilderness areas so that animals will always have space to roam and work with local partners and communities to ensure people and wildlife can live alongside one another.

    Wow, it's so emotional watching these videos. On one hand you're so excited and happy to see the babies graduating and one step closer to returning to the wild, and then on the other I get a little sad to see them go.
    Good job, team!

    I am overwhelmed by this video, it's true all the different emotions watching it, happy and sad but knowing they are one step closer to a wild life makes all the hard work, sacrifice and love worthwhile. I'm over the moon seeing Ithumba and all the other ellies. When I visited DSWT in September, I was told this is where Mbegu, my first adopted baby, will be going and my heart is full!! Thank you angels in green coats for everything you do!!

    Dang, Rapa, please get well soon! I hope it's a normal illness and you don't have to go back to the Nursery to heal and recover because that means it's serious. :(

    How long does it usually take for the keepers at Ithumba to recognise which elephant is which?

    • @TlanImass
      @TlanImass 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Probably not long. They're used to recognizing elephants. They even know which are the wild ones and if they're first time visitors or not. The keepers are amazing.

    • @TlanImass
      @TlanImass 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Bunny The Bear Rapa is doing fine from what I've read. The May updates are not posted yet. You can read more here. www.sheldrickwildlifetrust.org/asp/individual.asp?o=RAPA

    What is done to get NAUGHTY ELEPHANTSIN LINE?? All the elephant orphans need gentle, loving care BUT it seems the DELINQUENT GROUP NEED MORE. Something special that will encourage them to behave and move UPWARD.

  • @bodybalanceU2

    why do they need "electric" fences at the elephant sanctuary?

    Tried to contact them on info@sheldrickwildlifetrust.org, but the domain does not exist anymore.
    In 2017 there were ony two ellies saved! Makta'o and Kiasa. It does not exist any keeper's diary for Januar. Whom did I donate the money???

    • @expatpam1001
      @expatpam1001 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      My very quick look at the updates from only June to December 2017 shows 9 elephant rescues in that time. Are you looking in the right place? sheldrickwildlifetrust.org has the highest possible charity rating.

    • @LAnett13
      @LAnett13 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The Keeper's Diary for January will be available on the second week of February. So you have to wait a bit to read about the orpans. And you're wrong because in 2017 a lot of babies were rescued. Though not every of them made it sadly... and there's some elephants that are not yet ready for fostering because of their young age or poor condition...

    • @MyCristinaM
      @MyCristinaM 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, you are right. They answered to me. From UK! So I was wrong! And I am so happy that I was wrong!!!!
