  • Fast growing orphaned elephants, Kauro, Tusuja and Naskeu made the next move in their journey back to a life in the wild when they graduated to our Ithumba Reintegration Unit in December 2016.
Watch their journey, which began at the crack of dawn!

Established in 1977, the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust (SWT) operates the world’s most successful orphan elephant rescue and rehabilitation program, rescuing and hand-rearing orphaned elephants and other animals that have lost their mothers, all too often as a result of human activity. But we do much more than this. Through our Aerial, Anti-Poaching and Mobile Veterinary Units, we safeguard the natural environment and provide immediate assistance to wild animals in need. We also secure irreplaceable wilderness areas so that animals will always have space to roam and work with local partners and communities to ensure people and wildlife can live alongside one another.

I think it's just so sweet the way the herd greets newbies, their trunks reassuringly touch and stroke them. Just wonderful.

Je ne savais pas combien les éléphants étaient si compatissants les uns envers les autres ❤. Vraiment, je suis touchée de le savoir, je suis effondrée et émue devant tant d’Amour ❤. Nous avons besoin d’eux. Amitié de France.

In these group photos, walking by, could you please place more names next to them, like Kamok? Not only would it help greatly to find her in these group videos, but I think the individual name placements in ALL the videos would greatly increase the personal knowledge and care of the viewers, and thereby, create an increased number of new sponsors, fosters. There is nothing like PERSONAL KNOWLEDGE to breed attachment and from attachment comes a desire to sponsor. Please work on more names on the screen; it will help us and you! Bless you always, and with much Love!
I tried to see which of the three running to meet the new arrivals was Kamok, I replayed those moments many times in an effort to see which was her, and perhaps I recognized her gait, but it would be so much easier with names on the screen. Thank you with tenderness of heart.

Wait... Did I miss something by any chance? Kauro is back at the Nursery? Please, can anyone give an update. Thanks in advance. Maybe he'll do better at Umani Springs.

T'lan Imass I have just adopted this beautiful bull calf, so I didn’t realise that he had run into health problems once he went to Ithumba. There is a posting on Facebook from The Trust and he was returned to the Nairobi nursery, but he is fine now and back at Tsavo. 😊🐘😊🐘😊

Does the keeper assigned to the elephant stay at the new site or return back to the nursery? If not, must also be sad for the keepers to see the babies move on.
