I have had this cook kit, including the Amicus stove, for the last 2 years. I have had no problems with it. The main pot is so narrow that you need a stove with a small flame pattern like the Amicus. Surprisingly the main pot sticks on top of the stove without sliding around. I don’t know how the Soto engineers did it but they thought of everything. Highly recommended.

Great Video. Neat kit. One trick is to make a cold soak jar by putting a sheet of aluminum foil or plastic (1/2 a sandwich bag) between the lid and the pot. Kind of makes the setup almost spill proof. Note I've found that the toaks 750ml pot lid and the soto lid are fairly interchangeable as are the pots if that gives you any ideas. I took the handles of my toaks and use it with the soto lid. Note the lifter is about the same weight as the handles and gives me more options.

This is my favorite kit. Got mine cheaper from Soto. I use a piece of foil as a cook lid. For people who want to eat a drink something hot at the same time this is wonderful

Great looking single person cook kit... I had to order one based on your review! I also ordered a Toaks lid for the large pot because I would definitely melt the pour lid. LOL!. Thanks!

Design is well thought out, if you're a pressurized gas user. The diameter of the main pot is too small to effectively use the diffuse heat of an alcohol burner. I have been using an Evernew 1.3l ti. pot with a cosy made from a 3/8" old closed cell foam pad and duct tape for years. A Snow Peak ti cup and old MSR spoon complete the cookset. I like how the cosy holds my other cookware while I have the pot on the stove. I use alcohol because it is ecologically pretty neutral, being made from rotting vegetation, and I recycle containers in which to carry it.

Hey Doc…quite an outstanding channel you have here. Love your thought out reviews with great content. Because of you - I own a windmaster and two Soto cooksets. I’m about to pull the trigger on either a Nano or 5” Firebox as well. I’m a backpacker - would you go titanium 5” or Titanium Nano as your go to? I think I know your answer but I’m curious if I’m correct. Thanks again and hope the Louisiana summer heat isn’t too much for you. I reside in CO now but went to school in Ruston and lived in the New Orleans for many years. Make it a great one and thanks again!

@PaleoHikerMD, Hi Ernie, I actually have several sets of the Soto Thermostack (on sale at Amazon for $69.95) and paired it with the Soto Amicus Stove and New River Pot 1000ML/33.8 oz. which equals 4.2 cups. Dimensions: Diameter 120 x depth 98 mm. Weight: 118 g / 4.16 oz. (Amazon for $54.95). The Thermostack nest right inside the New River Pot (Just like the Russian Nesting Doll Set) You've previously reviewed the stove so that info is already on your list. It's already a good kit but (IMHO) this makes it even better! By the way ,the Soto Navigator Cook Set is definitely giving my Trangia Model 27 a run for it's money, Only thing you nee to add is the stove

I’ve got two of these kits. The first thing that I did was to look around the house for some collapsible cozy’s and trimmed them to fit not the small pots. There is some stretching involved, but now I have a double insulated cup or two insulated cups. I also bought the snow peak lid to fit the either cup. Makes a world of difference when sipping a hot liquid.

Thing is, you have to have a lid for boiling water and other cooking tasks. Surely you negate at least some of the weight savings of this slick setup if you wind up using more fuel because you can't use a lid while cooking. I suppose you could bring along the cut-off top of some 28 oz. can to lay over a pot of boiling water--that would certainly be feather light--but I'n not sure such a lid would be most efficient.

  • @Jakelol1980

I almost never buy cook kits that wont store the stove and the fuel inside. My only cook kit that that wont do that is my two trangias (25 HA and 27 HA) with multifuel burners but with those setups its just the fuel bottles that wont fit inside. Otherwise i always nest everything inside the cook kits.

    • @imerz87

    • @edsiefker1301
      @edsiefker1301 3 ปีที่แล้ว

@@imerz87 I get that it's cheaper to make non-titanium stuff, but in that case why not go all steel or aluminum?
If you're including a titanium pot, you're trying to market to people willing to pay for light gear. But then you drive them away by including a steel pot. Doesn't make any sense.
Either go all titanium and compete for the high end, or go all steel and aluminum and compete with the Stanley Adventure.

Not the best and not “ultra” light. You must be shilling because nobody can objectively call this “the best ultralight cook set”
I’m at about 5.4oz(including stove and stuff sack. Excluding fuel)
Edit: I guess if I’m going to say something negative I should probably say something positive.
I like the idea of the two inner cups. The 450 with the cup that nests inside it to make a double wall cup. I would like to see both cups in titanium with a heat resistance o-ring instead of the plastic and with a titanium lid. You’re paying $75 for ss and plastic.
I’m also 2 days into quitting smoking with no aids so I might be a bit grumpy atm. 😅
