Today we go back to the world's best distillery. And to their famous Vihno Varrique! This time a fancy box vs a leather tube? Join us on Patreon @ / topshelfwhisky
Prob my favorite malt. I have read that the Vinho Barriques are aged in both ex red wine and ex white wine barrels. I think that mix creates something very unique.
I have a healthy collection of Solist Kavalan from here in Canada, I have Rum, Peaty, Port, Vino, Virgin Oak and Oloroso Sherry. My Vino is 6 yrs old bottled in 2019 and in the leather like tube, didn't like it upon opening, perhaps sulphured? Let it sit for months and now it is wonderful, lots of red wine on the nose similar to a heavy Amarone as well as rich Christmas Cake soaked in brandy. My Oloroso is 9.5 yrs old! and is as dark as Pepsi, wonderful but still waiting for it to tame a bit more after just opening recently. I find the Kavalan's quite hot but super rich and rewarding, quite an amazing distillery. Cheers
Many of these do need some time to settle once the bottle is open. I can’t think of any of my favorites from this distillery that didn’t improve dramatically after a few months after opening.
Great reviews,.. Love your guys videos. Man, you got the soloist for like 100? I think i have one place near me and its like 3-4x that. Ive been meaning to ask on a few of these now. Where are you typically buying these from? Im assuming most are across the pond, so would be curiuous to know places you frequent that you can get some shipping here, or even auctions if you go that route. (Feel free to DM if you want to not advertise that type of thing).
Mike does a lot of trading and group stuff, so peer to peer. With that we use all the major UK sites, if and when they'll ship to us. And then we have friends who will randomly link us to mainland european sites when deals show up...I always forget their names. It's a lot of work.
Dustin handled this last order but we check websites mutable times a week and I love doing it. Whisky Base will provide links which is a resource I use all the time. It will show shop links on the right of the bottle and details.

Oh yes and further to my comment my Vino is 56.3 abv and 112 of 180 bottles. Luckily I have a few backups.
The difference between barrels from this label is stark, I'm part of a brotherhood and we tasted several, some were really good, others not so much.
Fav brand for me , easily 90 plus, but i suspect they do seasoning with casks, which is not legal for scotch post 1988 :-))
