    Been watching a lot of these videos tonight got to tell you what I am hearing now is the best I heard yet. Bass, sounds even, clean and super powerful. Fkg great thanks a bunch! P. S what it was my speakers sound great with the bass so I didn't want to cut the bass to them off completely. So I set them to the same crossover frequency yours are at and between the bass from my front speakers and sub.. Brilliant. Watching the invisible man (2020) the bit where she escapes at the beginning, hits the car and sets the alarm off, the music that kicks in after that... Wow! I watched this movie many times and never heard it like that before. Can't wait to hear the rest of it and something with more action later thank you!

    I use pretty much those exact crossover settings with music only. Set the marantz to auro-2D it sounds amazing in 7.2.4. better then stereo or multi channel stereo. For movies I want my svs subs to handle everything. All speakers on small. Test out San Andreas and i can feel the difference when I switch from large to small. And I have Tekton pendragons. I am going to change things up a bit in my system. I have 4 fronts, 2 used as surround now, but I plan on getting another xtz 300-a (don't rember exact name). I have one for each front, and biamped in 4 ohm, they deliver 600 watts and 1500 dampingfactor to each front. Sounds freaking amazing. Current fronts are dual 12" rated to 22hz, so they slam. The other set have dual 10" and are rated to 25 hz. (Same speakerseries, same midrange and tweter). My plan is to move my screen forward in the room, and use the dual 10's as centerspeaker behind the screen, driven by another xtz 300 so I can splitt centersignal into two speakers. That will make my center 4x10" bass 🤪🤪🤪
    Then take front high (do not have atmos yet), use as surround, and put the normal center as rear surround.
    Have dual subs with 1 active and 2 passive 14". (Def Tec Supercube Reference, freaking awsome, 11hz is rating, neighbour acros the road, not so happy 🤣).
    I now have fronts in full range, but I am going to try 40hz splitt, but I suspect the subs will only do from 40hz qnd down on fronts then, (front + sub is only available when fronts in large, and then I can not cut fronts off at all. Idealy I would cut them at 30 hz, with sub on top, but hey, that is one of the reasons I want a new reciever. Preferably the Anthem MRX 1140. Started saving up 🤪

    Totally agree to setting fronts as LARGE. Not sure of keeping the LPF at 90hz instead of standard 120hz. Would this make a considerable difference? Do u set distance as per actuals or have certain standard numbers you look at?

    Good video and great system. What were your numbers running Audessy? Did it recommend running large or small fronts? I'd really suggest kicking your LFE up to 120hz because you're cutting off 30hz from the LFE channel. (That data is just lost/ rolled off)

Can I follow your same logic and set the crossover between 15 and 20 above the lowest rated frequency response of each speaker? not sure what it's setting it too when speakers are set to large. Also when going this route should I redo my levels which were set with the auto cal feature?

    In running YPAO I switched my fronts, surrounds and heights from Ypao setting of large to small. When I did this the receiver assigned them a crossover level .Should I keep that crossover level and assume that was set by YPAO as alternate to large if user wanted to set speakers from Ypao choice of large to small?

  • @oszkarhathazi2305
    @oszkarhathazi2305 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Two problems with what you said.
    1. I saw in the beginning of the video with the Imax demo that you have turned on audyssey - reference. Let me tell you , that what you set in the manual / crossover settings , means jack-squat ....nada. So what you showed is 0. Because Audyssey uses the large/small and the crossover settings that it detected. Not what you set in manual config.
    2. If you set you fronts to LARGE what you set in the crossover frequency means nada again.When it’s set to large it receives the full range.
    To complicate the situation , it DOES mean something else ...when the fronts are set to Large and the Bass is set to Lfe + Main , what frequency you set in the Crossover menu dictates what kind of bass goes into the subs from the front channel. In your case you have full range sound in tour fronts +

    • @TheRafcave
      @TheRafcave  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      1. I turned Audyssey off now.
      2. Your saying my subs are only receiving 40hz and below now?

    • @oszkarhathazi2305
      @oszkarhathazi2305 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      THE RAFCAVE
      No and Yes.
      No - Your subs are getting 90Hz and below from the LFE channel. Because of the LFE setting.
      Yes - your subs are getting 40Hz and below from the front left + front right channels. This is because you have set the the speakers Large and at the same time you have the “+ mains” setting on.
      When you have the lfe+main on , it sends the bass (The frequency you set in the crossovers menu) from the fronts to the subs.

    • @TheRafcave
      @TheRafcave  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@oszkarhathazi2305 LFE only now set. Crossover for subs 120hz. I'll compare scenes with this setting. But ultimately If It doesn't sound good. Then back I go. It's all about room dimensions and speaker set ups that make It all sound differently. Thanks Oscar. 👍🏽

    • @joshpeters7392
      @joshpeters7392 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I hate to argue with you Oscar - but you're wrong. The manual settings WILL override what Audyssey has configured. If you're in any doubt of this, max out your center and lower the sound to all of the other speakers and you'll mostly only get sound from the center. When Audyssey is enabled, you're not able to change the EQ curve for your speakers (Audyssey does that), there is a high end rolloff that is enabled, and a handful of other things, but everything that you can set manually, distance, volume, crossovers, to large / small settings will override what Audyssey has. Second experiment if you still have doubts is to turn your crossovers to 250 on all speakers, and unplug your sub. You'll have nothing below 250.

    @nbrown5907 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Ouch bass below 80hz is non directional you should stay 80hz or higher for smaller speakers. The Dolby THX reference is set to 80hz for that reason. I run a Harmon/Kardon JBL/Crown/DBX Live sound 3600 Watt setup and I crossover at 80hz with JBL JRX 125's which have two 15" subs in them and two JBL EON 618S (18" 1000 Watt Active) subs. They go to 31Hz but I do a BW 18Db rolloff at 35.5 hz.

    • @TysonHook-22-
      @TysonHook-22- 5 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @@TheRafcave Your LFE should always be set to 120hz since thats what ALL audio engineers mix at. Regardless of how you perceive things setting the LFE lower then 120hz your loosing some of the dynamics of your source material, at just 90hz your loosing 30hz of material... The crossovers are different and are always worth playing around with to see what you enjoy most, but theres lots of info online about why your LFE should always remain at 120hz... otherwise your not reproducing the source material to its full potential and your literally cutting out parts of your low end dynamics. Watch your fav explosive movie scene at 90hz then switch it to 120hz and re-watch it, you'll hear sounds at 120hz that weren't present at 90hz.

I have them set @40 hz and small, and a 12" KLIPSCH PS set at LFE+MAINS @120hz but since towers have 8" duals should I change to LFE ALONE, DENON AVR X4500H for center I have INFINITY BETA 360 "it's huge" have it set to small @ 60hz... what do u think, am I on the right track? Suggestions for improvement. THNX!

    This is what I m talking about !! Finally....
    I have a marantz sr 6013. 2 marantz ma 700 mono block amps. Klipsch rp 280 fa
    Klipsch 450 c center , klipsch 250s surrounds klipsch 160m rears. Two '15 cerwin vega subs. Ran audyssey, hated it dumb everything down to - 11 -17 etc. After everybody was saying set all speakers to small at 80hz . Why have great towers to get them off at the knees! Yes your subs do a better job at running g the bass . But sometimes I wanna hear just the towers with the bass they produce !
    Hey how did you get the 2bd profile on the marantz? I want to have a 2nd profile set up for 2ch stereo! Thx ..

    This settings doesn't work for me. The ceiling channels crossover too low and you gonna miss some information there. The LFE left to 90 Hz is not a wise decision as it is separate channel and independent from crossover, if a producer or sound FX guy intended to send sound above 90hz to LFE, you gonna totally miss all the information. For example; a gunshot that might have information of 110hz that send to LFE to give you more impact effect. All those details will be lost and it cannot send to any other speakers.

    Makes no sense to set your mains to large. You're obviously a novice. I don't know where to begin as almost everything you've stated is wrong. Your premise that setting your speakers to large makes them sound fuller is just not right since setting them to small will direct the bass to your sub. I think most people's subs are more capable than their mains. If not, they have bigger issues. It's not like your reducing bass, you're just redirecting it to a sub that can handle bass bette. LFE is not the same as bass management and is meant to go to 120Hz. The reason you don't like it this high is either your subs really suck, their placement is not optimized or both. Why would you not want the consistency of the bass from all speakers coming from the same place and the same driver. Your way some channels handle bass less competently than others and sound different as well. The ultimate goal after all is for all channels to sound the same with maximum cohesiveness. Your Klipsch speakers can't handle 50Hz like a sub. I personally use two 24" sub's in my Home Theater.

    • @MrPhirit
      @MrPhirit 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      carlos oliveira, you are also wrong Tower speakers do sound fuller when playing a full signal. Thats why in 2 channel playback a lot of us prefer that without subs. Yes the subs handles the bass better but it is a different sound hence IT IS HIS PREFERENCE. By the way he has 5 subs so the audible rolloff is not the same as say if he had one or two subs. There is a good amount of energy enveloping him from all those drivers. Not everyone wants heavy midbass the danger with subs is the room itself and I have no problem with His choice to roll off the subs that steep at the midbaas point. he does have lfe + main have the subs play the lower frequencies that would otherwise not be audible fro his fronts so I see no issues with his setup. What most people don't understand about THX speakers is that most are small and rated at 70hz hence the 80hz crossover. I bet you this home cinema sounds better than your so called "correct" one. The only issue I have with him is not setting LFE to 120hz as he will miss content from that channel. And just incase u haven't heard those RF 7s play music at full range u won't understand what I'm saying

      @@MrPhirit totally agree! The THX standard of 80hz was made for small satellite sub speakers, not essentially for large towers. why deprive them of what they are meant to do? I have experimented with both and I kid you not, setting towers to Full Band totally changes the sound on a different level. I also would like the LPF set to 120hz.

    Hey Raf, just curious, I’ve just experienced my first imax dtsx 4K Blu-ray, and it was great. But, where can I get the imax trailer you used at the beginning here in its native form? Thanks in advance. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

      They're not useless, I just want MORE BASS.

      LFE+main will mess up the bass. Will it not? When the room calibration/correction was done, the assumption was the sub will take care of the bass. If mains are also playing the same, I can see a lot of boominess happening. I could be wrong.

      @@deepakmohan1704 The fronts will share the bass with the subs. I have dual 10" woofers In my front towers so the can pump good bass too. It's room/equipment dependant. And also personal preference. 🙂

      @@TheRafcave Jose is kind of correct here. The lower you set your crossovers on front and surround speakers, the less bass your sub will produce. And in almost all cases, 40 hz on a really good sub is going to blow away 40 hz on any other speaker in your system.
