We are going to show you today how to replace / repair a common fault on later Vauxhall and Opel cars - the legendary broken boot release switch.

Can't believe it, l've done it. Watched your video a few times and decided maybe i could do that. Now I must explain that i have never done anything on a car apart from cleaning and polishing. So i got the part which then sat in the hall for a couple of weeks but today was the day. I followed your video and I am amazed i got it done, thank you so very much for this. I feel like I shouldn't say this but I found one issue which is not covered in the presentation. Around the locking mechanism i had a cover which was a bit of a pain to get the panel past. This can be removed by clicking in a couple of restraining lugs and pulling off. Apart from this it all went smoothly, Thank you sir and keep these coming 👍
Couldn’t believe how easy this was to fit after watching this video. Saved me over £150. The switch cost less than £10 on eBay and only took me 15 minutes to fit. Thank you so much ThatGermanGuy 👍

awesome video bought the switch from ebay £7.50. after watching the video a few times I decided to attempt the repair myself ... completed within 30 minutes and saved myself around £100 ... thank you .
just followed exactly what the guy said on the video. ordered the part through Amazon prime so got it next day. all fixed and took me about 40 mins. Absolutely useless at this sort of stuff but video makes it clear and easy to understand and just followed it through. thanks!

Thank you so much, I just bought an insignia last weekend from a dealership and when I got home I realised the boot didn't open probably why it was parked with its boot right up to a wall, but thanks to this easy to follow step-by-step instruction video I was able to to buy the part off eBay and fit it in about 20-minutes with following this video as I went, really happy now that I have a massive boot that I probably could fit my old Citroen C2 inside.

I ordered the switch for a mere £6 on eBay from Hong Kong on Tuesday and it arrived on Friday!

If I could can change the Switch then anyone can, £7.20 Switch from E bay, Brilliant instructions and what a saving of Garage cost`s it took 30 mins to do and 3 mins to finish my Coffee. Great guy, many thanks
Bought a brand new switch off Ebay for a tenner and used this brilliant video as a visual guide. Thanks very much for taking the time to make it and share it with us all. Very easy job to do when it's shown and explained so clearly.
Just did this this morning. 20 minutes from start to finish. Got the part for £8.40 from amazon. Was quoted £144 + VAT from Vauxhall garage. Job done in no time for £8.40. Thanks 👍👍

Thank you. I just replaced mine. It last 11 years which is not bad. I couldn’t get the two nuts at the widest points of the chrome bar. The rubber cover did not protect them from moisture (perhaps it was never meant to) and they were fused by rust. Thankfully there was enough give with everything else to extract the old switch and fit the new one. Delighted to have an openable boot again.

Worked a treat. Garage quoted me £95...bought from eBay for £7.95 and 30 minutes from start to finish.
Used eBay and got a genuine part for £18.95 inc Del and fitted it in 20 mins. All thanks to this video! Thank you VERY much. Fantastic information/instructions. Huge thumbs up!

Great video. Very easy to follow. It took me no more 10 minutes to remove the switch.
The switch was completely sealed, so it didn't seem to be water that got into it and corroded it. I striped off all the rubbery sealing material and found that the actual switch itself was the most basic type making of a small circuit board and a springy metal plate. No wonder it can be faulty so easily!

The same time my sons were rebooting my car from winter to summer wheels (just replacement of wheels).
Repair of the switch took two times less time.

Thanks German Guy. Just used guide this to replace the tailgate switch on my Insignia. Very straightforward. I owe you a beer !!
Word of caution to anyone else replacing their switch. There are 2 types of switch depending on the year/model of your Insignia
a) GM part number 13422268 - with a socket on the end of the switch leads (like in this video)
b) GM part number 13393912 - has a bullet connector on the end of each switch lead
Check which one you need before ordering.
This guy saved my bacon again - managed to replace before it had completely broken, but £9.99 for a part on amazon with prime next day delivery 🥳
Spent £30 for switch direct from vauxhall and followed your excellent video. Saved me about £100. Took about 40 mins. Would have been quicker if I had a wrench but used pliers and getting the last bolt in when putting back together was tricky. Thanks

I had this problem Friday 30th june, went down to dealers and was told it was a 1-2 hour job, the part was £55 + vat, along with either £99 or £198 + vat labour depending if it took 1 or 2 hours lol . thought I would buy the part and do the job myself, ordered part from ebay ( original Vauxhall part brand new ) £17.99. I watched your video then went to do the job, start to finish no more than 15 mins. Thank you very much, EXCELLENT video

Hi Mark, Thank you kindly for taking time to create this video. I have just replaced my Insignia boot switch following your video and I had no problems. £19 for OEM switch incl delivery and it took less than half hour as you stated.
