    I could cry. For the past 2 years I've been avoiding my sewing room because nothing fits right and it becomes frustrating. All of the adjustments I make don't work and end up feeling like I'm incapable. I can sew from patterns without adjustments but it otherwise it is always a disaster. But I've watched this video over and over. I pause it and then resume as I follow your step by step instructions. THE BUST FITS!!! And my armholes aren't ginormous. Thanks Glenda. Now I need to figure out how to move the waist darts to the proper position and then I will be able to sew my dress using my intended fabric. I can't wait till my dress kit arrives. Thanks again Glenda!!!

      @Vllamas Our "Good Stitch" is the greatest! I know it has been a year since you posted your comment. If you haven't figured it out yet, the waist dart is placed 4" from the side seam OR for us more developed girls... right under the Apex.

    If you'd like to see how to add a bust-fitting dart to a dartless bodice pattern, watch this short video for the step-by-step process. I show you how to do this using the SFD Shirt Kit pattern. As many of you know, it's our uni-sex kits and will sew shirts for both women and men and therefore it doesn't start out with a bust dart. But some of you ladies with fuller bust lines. will always get a superior fit when you have some bust dart shaping. Enjoy!

    I wear an I cup. Some patterns I have tried do have a full bust bodice option but are still too small. Also needing a rounded back adjustment and to lengthen patterns due to being long waisted I still struggled with a good fit. I always had to wear my clothes a little big in the neck and shoulders to have enough room for the bust. Can’t wait to try this method. I’m saving up to get your dress and pants kits. Fabulous teacher Glenda. You make it so easy.

    Thank you so much for your youtube videos. Amazed to find this video as I was just wondering how do I include dart on my dartless diagram of the dress top. I was wondering adding the dart, the armhole side goes up or the lower portion of the dart go littel downwords. Here it gives clear idea what and how to add a afart. I have never worked with a pattern. I am from India now in the USA. And my passion to make dresses, blouse, saaree blouse on my own. You know out of frustration too, that in India, when we give the material to the tailor to sew for us, invariably they are "over busy" and asking 7-10 times making special visit to the tailor, coming home with big "NO". And I would bring back the material given to tailor and try to sew it by myself. With trial and error, I have learned a lot. Still am not at ease with using the ready made pattern. Opening up the pattern on that large tissue paper make me so nervous as I really don't know how to read the instructions! :-D I think I will get your "Sure fit design kit" and try to learn making my own pattern for myself. Thanks for your sharing your knowledge and expertise.

    I watched your excellent video today as I am making a torso sloper and wanted to have a side seam bust dart. Since I am not a large busted person (standard B cup) and would not need to expand it to a C cup size, , could I just draw in the dart (I was thinking of a 1 to 1.25 inch width) and then add that amount to the bottom at the hem? Hoping this may not throw anything out of whack resulting in a poor fit? any suggestions would be most welcome as I would like to do this correctly on the sloper. Thank you very much

    • @surefitdesigns
      @surefitdesigns  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Dianne Underwood - the only way that would work is if you take the amount added for the dart all the way across from side seam to center front. You also need to true/perfect the dart cutting extension line on the side seam so that you have the proper shape of fabric to allow the side seam (with dart extension) to lay down smoothly/evenly on the side seam

    • @dianneunderwood8456
      @dianneunderwood8456 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@surefitdesigns Thank you for your very prompt reply! Yes I had intended to add that amount across from side seam to center front. And use your method of trueing the dart to make sure the shape is correct for the dart. So happy this will work as I was scratching my head until I saw your video.

  • @NicholeLynPowers
    @NicholeLynPowers 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    When you refer to bra or cup size, I just wanted to clarify, you're not talking about the bra size you are when you buy a bra at the store correct? You're talking about sewing cup sizes? Can you explain, how do I know which cup size I am in sewing pattern terms? Thanks!

    • @surefitdesigns
      @surefitdesigns  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      In the Dress Kit instruction book there is a Guideline for choosing the appropriate dart size but it is a guideline only. Sometimes it does work out that the guideline is the same size bra cup you purchase - other times it's different. It's difficult to pin this down exactly because different bra manufacturers use different standard shapes for their unique brand.

  • @phylliscampbell2325

    When you add the dart, you also add more ease at the waist and hip. For the shirt, how would you deal with the extra volume?

    • @surefitdesigns
      @surefitdesigns  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Phyllis Campbell - yes this does add volume in waist and hip, but most women who do this adjustment need the extra volume. However, after a test shirt, if you find it too much, you could always give more shape to the side seams by curving them, or you could add internal waist shaping darts.

    • @surefitdesigns

      No further changes or adjustments are required for the back as the side seam is supposed to end up being the same length as when you started out (if you've done the process correctly). @Laurie Bailey - no you don't. The back side seam is determined by the length of the front side seam minus the dart width.

    My cup size isn't large, but my bust and waist measurements are. How do I know how big to make my darts?

    Hi Linda, my FBA looks a little baggy? Is this because the pattern already has 2" of ease across the bust? Should I remove the ease before a FBA?
    Thanks!

    • @surefitdesigns
      @surefitdesigns  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm not sure how an FBA can look baggy. With Sure-Fit Designs you don't need to do FBA's because you will use the Adjust-A-Bust template and put in the correct size of dart width as you are drawing your pattern. I think you might be a little confused. And the Sure-Fit Designs bodice has 2.5" of bust ease. It should not be removed unless you want your bodice skin tight. Then it's called a Moulage.

      @@surefitdesigns LOL, I can't wait to tell my husband (a retired Draftsman) that his bodice (body blueprint) design sucks! He said; "I can do that for you".
      He added ease, but it wasn't enough, and the FBA looks awful.
      I've sewn enough Slip Covers and home needs.... Now I'm going to tell him, I'm ordering your course! Sometimes I think men just enjoy wasting our time!
      Thanks Linda!

    So for an A cup, the dart process is complete at 4:46?

    • @surefitdesigns
      @surefitdesigns  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Laura K - no that's not correct. If you want to add an A cup dart width, then follow the process through as shown and explained but only spread the space open about 1/4". It's going to be a very small dart.

    Hello Glenda and readers, Can anyone tell me how you locate point D? I couldn't seem to hear that in the video. Glenda already seemed to have it marked in pencil on her pattern. Thank you.

      Point D is about 1/3 of the distance up the armscye from the underarm point.

    Can you add a French dart to a garment that doesn’t have a dart?

    • @surefitdesigns
      @surefitdesigns  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes. How I would suggest, is to add the side seam bust dart and then transfer it to the French dart location.

    How far c was from the under arm (how many cm)

    • @surefitdesigns
      @surefitdesigns  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      it depends on how low your apex is because C is a line extending to the side seam from your apex. The directions are also found in the Shirt Kit Instruction book. Also, we contacted you yesterday about your SFD order and suggested you order from the Canadian website - www.surefitdesigns.ca We have not heard back from you. Please check your email.
