    What a well presented tutorial! I got so much out of it -- was a bit confused about where to cut the lines (straight down the middle or with the dart shaping) and you helped clarify that as an option for a more tailored fit. I have to say that I do prefer the lines of the princess seam to start higher in the armscye. Thank you again for sharing your knowledge and experience - am aiming to have garments that look as good as the ones you make!

    I love the look of the princess seam going into the armhole. But you're so right about the difficulty of sewing it. I'm a 30 DDD and it is VERY difficult after the proper adjustments are made.

      Thanks for your input and feedback. Yes, sewing a large dart into a curved armscye princess seam is difficult to say the least.

    Thank you Glenda. I have just made a gilet from an indie pattern which has an armhole princess seam and I couldn’t figure out where to find my apex on the pattern to lower it as I always have to. This was my first experience ever of sewing a princess seam. Foolishly I didn’t do a muslin and just lengthened at the lengthen/shorten line in the end. When it didn’t fit across the bust I couldn’t figure out why as it had a full bust pattern piece. Next morning I had a lightbulb moment and realised I had seen this video in the last few weeks and of course realised where the apex would be which was of course nowhere near mine. I have enough fabric so can now do version 2 with your valuable information taken onboard.
    I’m looking forward to the sfd blouse kit my husband has hidden away until Christmas and I have the pants kit drafted ready to cut out my muslin.
    Thank you so much for all you do.

      Ahh yes, when sewists understand about the apex position and how it affects the fit of the princess design line, it makes the world of difference to the outcome of the garment fit. I'm happy our video tutorials have been of such benefit for you.

    thank you for this video. here's a problem i have been struggling with. what if the middle piece of a princess seamed pattern is too wide through the shoulders, but not from the bust down? I have a gap of about an inch at the neck line. how to i get rid of that gap with out monkeying with the rest of the front? i don't want a seam down the front. thanks!

    Nice one .Thanks.
    Pls how do you match the side bodice that is shorter than the centre bodice.I experience it most a times that after sewing my side bodice is shorter than the centre bodice.Pls how can I fix this

    • @surefitdesigns
      @surefitdesigns  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Draw matching notches before cutting the side away from the front (when you create the princess seam). Use the notches to help guide the 2 edges together as you seam them. You need to staystitch and clip the more curvy edge and notch the longer looking edge. They really are exactly the same length. It's just an illusion that one is longer than the other. You cut one single cut on one line. The lines are the same length. It now becomes a 'sewing' issue to get the concave seam to fit the convex seam and staystitching, clipping and notches will do the trick.
