GREAT engineering. Put the tiny dipstick in a position where you have to burn your hand to check the fluid level on a device that must be checked only when it is hot.

OE parts dirt cheap and advice from the top mechanic if I run into something I can’t figure out. The owner is a great guy. FordBossMe put an aftermarket transmission dipstick on his F150 that goes up into the engine so you can check your fluid like you was able to back in the day.
We watch him all time. Not prudish but foul innuendo and potty mouth just isn’t okay. His helper is foul mouthed. Seems friend helper is influencing towards not watching him. Not a nice video.
When I see you working on all these new cars with all the problems, no access, etc. it makes me very happy that I am still driving my 2000 Yukon with no problems.
I emailed AROD about a 6.4L Powerstroke issue, he called me back couple days later, LIVE on a TH-cam podcast, and many viewers chimmed in!!! Thank you AROD, wonderful help, although issue is still present, even Ford has no clue....but your help and viewers were Amazing.
For anyone doing this themselves consider loosening the fill plug before removing the drain plug. If you can't remove the fill and it's empty you might be screwed.
Good morning! Glad to see the shop is back up and running. It is great to see friends and fellow mechanics having fun and keeping it real what it's really like working in a shop together. I've spent a lot of my times sitting in the posh waiting room of a stealership wondering if they were actually working on my vehicle. As a tow truck driver, I did in fact know about the trick to get the Ram trucks into neutral. Besides, if all else fails, there's always the option to drop the drive line.

Here in Australia we call them handbrakes and if you have a passenger when you are driving on a dirt road they are good for hard right and left turns when the passenger applies it for you when you least expect it.
Tow truck driver here. If you wanna keep those Rams in neutral when you’re towing it, All you have to do is fasten the driver seatbelt and put it in neutral and it will stay even with the door open.

So used to no bad language on this channel it stood out. Not that I was offended but it is normally family friendly. My electric parking brake does do an emergency brake if you hold it it comes on a bit slower but makes some nasty noises from inside the discs because they get rusty. it pops up on the dash applying park brake. As Ray said you would think to find it and hold it.
Yes they used to work and it pulls you up very quickly without locking up the rear wheels. I’ve seen a video of a few guys from Poland, (I think), actually doing this and comparing the results between the old hand-break, the foot operation e-break and the electric parking brake
"Will electronic parking brakes work while moving?" I've seen tests on several brands and all of them did but they don't all work the same. Some will give you moderate braking while others go into full ABS. The slightly disturbing part of that is it implies they're not actually using the parking brake mechanism but are using the stability control to actuate the regular hydraulic brakes. Will they start using the electric caliper if the hydraulic brakes don't work for some reason? No idea about that one... As for the throwing itself into park when the door is opened, I don't know about other brands but in BMWs you can avoid that by keeping the driver's seatbelt fastened.
Now, THIS sounds more like the mechanic shops I grew up with. Still, not enough SCREAMING F bombs to match what I grew up around. Some might not care for it, but to me, it reminds me of uncles and my dad, all who have passed away, when I was growing up. Doesn't bather me one bit. Technically the fluid in everything is lifetime. Since everything will eventually blow up without a fluid change and the fluid lasted until that point. I love, love, love thread lock. Bolts use to fly out before it existed, littering the roads.

I like where the transmission cooler is located. Located to be be easily damaged by road debris, high centering and other road hazards. Most probably designed by the, lets place the timing belt or oil pump drive belt submerged in the engine oil engineer! By the way, we can also place the electronics and electrical underneath the body so they can be cooled by rain, ice, snow and slush. Nuts!
Ford used to have a marketing slogan "Ford has a better idea". Right. What could be a better idea than to place the transmission cooler underneath the engine where it can be easily damaged?
Regarding the parking brake use in an emergency: as far as I know, in Europe the electrical parking brakes have to be functioning when the car is driving. And they even have to be accessible from the passenger side, so a passenger could activate them if the driver would for example pass out. For the electrical parking brake to apply while driving you just have to push the button or pull the tab the whole time. A single press won't activate it. Or at least that's what I was told during my last driving safety training by my instructor.
I did NOT break up until Ray said :"Suckin' on the bag." But I am old enough to remember automotive parts pin up calendars! On the Park brake vs Emergency brake. I have had two occasions of brake line failure where the mechanical braking device saved what would have been a serious accident.
The electronic parking brake will work in an emergency. If you hod it in it will stop the vehicle as fast as possible (not always good) utilizing the ABS sensors also most vehicles put the hazard lights on.

@@robhunter2435 Absolute truth! I had a "newer" car that computer systems to operate everything. After the third transmission and less then 50k, I sold it. I purchased a 92' obs 4 wheel drive, with a 157k, 6 years and another 75k she still runs like a dream, and aside from routine maintenance, and fluid film every 6 mos..Mos... it still looks like the day it rolled off the line. Aside from paint being slightly faded, especially living up here in upstate NY that's nothing shy of amazing.🙏💜
Hey Ray... i had a 84 Buick Regal that the rear line blew then a front line blew a second later doing 60mph down the freeway. And yes I did think to hit my parking break on the floor!!! But of course it didn't work either. So yea they do get used!
Garage54 did some tests on electronic E brakes and found they work really well in an emergency if you hold them on. They use the ABS to help strop the vehicle at least on the vehicles they tested.
I switched up my 5.0 from 5w-20 to 5w-30 and not only is it quieter, but MPG actually went up by 1. It took 2 full jugs, or 9 quarts, with a filter change..

They don’t need dipsticks because they generally fail before the fluid needs changing.
The transmission will fail before the fluid.

I’m old school. I just replace the transmission fluid three times. That’s the same as Ray’s fancy machine, minus the cost of the machine.

The electronic parking brake will work in an emergency. If you hod it in it will stop the vehicle as fast as possible (not always good) utilizing the ABS sensors also most vehicles put the hazard lights on.

@@robhunter2435 Absolute truth! I had a "newer" car that computer systems to operate everything. After the third transmission and less then 50k, I sold it. I purchased a 92' obs 4 wheel drive, with a 157k, 6 years and another 75k she still runs like a dream, and aside from routine maintenance, and fluid film every 6 mos..Mos... it still looks like the day it rolled off the line. Aside from paint being slightly faded, especially living up here in upstate NY that's nothing shy of amazing.🙏💜

Hey Ray... i had a 84 Buick Regal that the rear line blew then a front line blew a second later doing 60mph down the freeway. And yes I did think to hit my parking break on the floor!!! But of course it didn't work either. So yea they do get used!

Garage54 did some tests on electronic E brakes and found they work really well in an emergency if you hold them on. They use the ABS to help strop the vehicle at least on the vehicles they tested.
I switched up my 5.0 from 5w-20 to 5w-30 and not only is it quieter, but MPG actually went up by 1. It took 2 full jugs, or 9 quarts, with a filter change..
