Not an expert by any means, but I do own some geckos. The only reason I can think of for than yellow-headed gecko to be missing toes, but still have its original tail, is that maybe some shed skin got stuck on the toes causing them to die and fall off.

The skink species you caught, are you sure it isn't Scincella cherriei? From my experience M.unimarginata has bold, unbroken white and black lateral stripes, with unpatterned coffee brown dorsum and a wider midsection/abdomen, making head appear quite narrow in comparison. Also from what I have seen of the habitat S. cherriei seems more likely as it is a leaf litter dweller. I have only seen M.unimarginata in very exposed, quite dry microclimates.

I have lots of similar to these in my garden. They have silky smooth skin, beautiful small hands, and diamond-like eyes. They lay their small oval eggs in the brush fence. These creatures are very useful garden predators. They consume small baby cockroaches and other pests. I am saddened when I accidentally tread on one or they drown in the water tank. When I use the mozzie zapper in the summer, they hang around on the ground and adjoining walls ready to eat all the zapped bugs and moths. Barbeque time!
