The repair III is my favorite version of the Exia. The blue knees, added blue on the back skirt, the added white on the shoulders and that gun just adds some nice extra colors and cool weapon that the others don’t
I like the extra beam rifle but I'd keep the knees and back skirts all white like the R2 and maybe have the second pair of beam sabers on the back of the shoulder armor and that's it. This would be my perfect version of the R3.
I absolutely love the repair three but the only thing I don't like is the GN condenser instead of the GN drive. Which I'm pretty sure if I get the chance to put that instead of the condenser I will
I wish they could've incorporated that extra swivel joint on the front skirts of the RG kit... [Edit]: 18:23 the little robot drone thing is a karel/karrel (not sure of the spelling). The Haros from that series dock into them and pilot them to repair the gundams and the Ptolemaios/Ptolemy. It's pretty cool that they added this little guy, a nice bonus for 00 fans.
@@UVAmatsuo yeah it was inactive and not in use “yet”. When the exia got to setsuna he had to manually dock and synchronize the remaining 00 drive into the eco. It’s just a plug to let CB staff member know there is currently no GN drive inside.
Its actually a Large GN Condenser that stores a limited amount of particles for a short combat sortie. Obviously they never used that particular condenser in active combat except to deliver it to Setsuna, because there was an available GN Drive at the time, after the final battle it was upgraded to the R3 and was given a upgraded condenser that could store more particles as there were not enough GN Drives to power all their machines.
As pointed out in this review, the feet don’t sit well as the ankles are weak. And they get weaker with time. Yes, you can get the kit to stand in a neutral pose but in a more active pose, with weapons and shield, then it does tend to fall over with the slightest knock. Also, I have heard that later versions of Exia partially fixed the ankles. The ankles on my original version are certainly worst. Also the original Exia had those ribbon cables at the top of the arm which limited how far the arms could be raised. This version doesn’t have that problem. BTW, I prefer the darker green. The lighter day-glow green looks terrible.
The Repair III cuts a lot of modeler's frustrations by omitting most of the holographic rubber cables from the original Exia which was more of a pain to put on in the RG version. I don't know about this version but my regular Exia's knee joint did go weak relatively fast and it's just a nightmare to keep it standing on my shelf.
MG Exia 2.0 still needs to happen. An action base might alleviate some of the leg issues, but that doesn't mean the arms and hands will be able to hold anything. Exia is lucky his weapons tend to be smaller than 00 and Quants, but the hands on those old 00 MG kits are atrocious. There's also just the matter of how damn good the 2.0 will look compared to the current one. Stuff like the little pegs in the ankle armor or lack of inner frame parts for the shoulder armor are so distracting to me.. and the plastic is going to be much better quality.
To answer the question about the condensers, it’s because in the anime they aren’t noticeable green but instead are a dark green bordering on black. The clear dark green is meant to reflect that but give a way for a shine effect to be implemented with foils or chrome paint
I've built the MG Exia 3 times(normal, Repair, Avalanche Dash) and the ankles have never bothered me.Now the mount points for the GN blades on the hips? I hate those things. They always fall apart. Look at the kit wrong and the blade mounts fall apart, let alone trying to pose the Exia Seven Sword
Mr. Hobby Cement man, can't go wrong with it. I've done the Exia soon to be 5 times now (Regular, Repair, Repair 2 & Dark Matter) and if it was loose or wouldn't hold at all it got cemented. My regular Exia isn't a statue (yet lmao), but it's definitely a lot more sturdy.
The problems ppl mention are those of the original releases. A few years ago when model kit side of Bandai branched off into the blue logo Bandai Spirits, they stealth-fixed glaring issues of the original in a ver 1.1 way. So if your kit is from this time period with the blue logo, it wont have any of the problems listed.
I have the hobby star and DM versions of exia and I think the design of exia itself is the problem with the ankle. While the knockoffs do have tighter joints on the ankle, I noticed that it does suffer the same problem over time. Hoping for an Exia repair IV kit.
I think the more glaring issue is the feet - it's just so hard to align and spongy, almost impossible to have the feet perfectly flat on the ground :( from a guy currently building the MG Exia Repair III. Still looks great tho
The ankles and feet were an issue for me when I first built this, but for those who like posing and playing around with it, I recommend pinching the foot lengthwise, from the back of the heel to the toe. It presses the foot together and tighter, and much less likely to fall over. Also, it's still a shame they did this twice, both this and the RG, that the connector piece for the rifle doesn't have a peg for the shield. Missed opportunity.
i feel like they will make a 2.0 after the virtue. kinda like how they did the strike rm, they made a new inner frame mold and made all the counterparts first then made the rm
the exia mg seems pretty fine but what keeps me from getting it is the possibility of a exia 2.0. They did it with the strike rm so Im hoping theyll do it with the exia as well
I love the Exia. I have built the MG Exia, but I don't really recommend it. It's just a high-maintenance kit. Bandai already has the entire new frame, so I am sure they will release the 2.0 eventually? I am hoping so. By the way, the Exia does have an ab-crunch right below the cockpit's door.
After 8 years, finally i got MG exia repair II It has slightly different shoulder armor than exia or exia repair III, and new shoulder thruster at the back like avalanche exia
I'd say the MG Exia (especially as it is now, with the improved ankles) needs a 2.0 less than the MG Wing EW version, and that kit didn't get one... I'd like an MG Exia 2.0, but the precedent doesn't make me feel confident about it.
The Wing EW 2.0 is inevitable since Gundam Wing is a big cash cow, and with the new Zero ver.ka it would only really take a colour swap and a new runner for the wing and rifle as the EW versions are basically the same gundam (Katoki got lazy for Glory of the Losers lol). I'd give it 5 years at the most. As for the Exia, I just don't see it happening. There's still a lot of other gundams and mobile suits to release from Gundam 00. They're just now finishing the main gundams from S1 lol.
@@trappychan People were hoping for Wing EW 2.0 literally a decade ago when the other Wing EW MGs for the exact same reason people are expecting an Exia 2.0 now (the frame runner). Instead, Bandai just reused the old Ver Ka mold in the middle of their MG EW releases. It was after the Deathscythes and before Heavyarms/Sandrock. It was released around the same time as the Shenlong, iirc.
it's either i would buy the MG Avalanche Exia Dash or wait for a MG Exia 2.0 finding the right p-bandai kit like this through shopee and/or lazada is a little hard lol
Best thing about this design is how the armor does not restrict any movement, hope bandai releases a MG 0 gundam now that they are releasing the other suits of this series
I am going to build mine as a hybrid of RII and RIII. I want it to have the GN drive, not a condenser. I only have the Avalanche Exia, so I haven't encountered the ankle problem before.
Did they ever do an Exia R4? I know it came out as a Metal Build, not sure about a model kit... I don't think the R2 and R3 are all that - just minor remixes of the original design - but I really like the bit of Quanta that they threw into the R4.
I've got an MG Exia Ignition built in repair mode from around 2016 and I'd say it is my most poorly aged kit - it absolutely can not stand without balancing it against something.
I’ve seen the ankles way worse so I don’t know if it’s consistent, but I’ve heard that modern MG Exia reprints aren’t as bad as the earlier releases. Would be interesting to know what they changed or if it was just that the molds were so heavily used in the original release window that they ended up releasing a ton of looser kits. Could also be a problem with early RG’s where the inner frame can become a floppy mess over time.
This is just based on the 00 Qant, so it may not apply to other MG 00s, but the clear version of the 00 Qant came with lighter colored green parts that are fluorescent, for both the condensers and the blades, whereas the Full Saber comes with the that dark green for everything else... I’m wondering if painting it with just fluorescent green will kill the clear-ness of it or not. Also, sure the ankles are a bit wonky, but it’s the Exia, how do you not want it flying on an action base?
I've heard from several people that the plastic was changed when Bandai began using the blue logo which alleviates most of the glaring problems I and many others encountered with ours. Mine would never stand on it's own and I had to use poster putty for the GN Sword and shield. You're also not addressing the elephant in the room. The bootleg/third-party/knockoff Exias and Astraea's are better than Bandai's. More accessories, fewer issues, and of course they're cheaper.
Yes, Bandai basically stealth-fixed the Exia's issues in what ppl call a version 1.1. The bootleg thing is a non-issue you're turning into an issue in your head. No one says you have to strictly get Bandai's products. If the third party is better, get that.
Can you make a video showing you putting glue or floor polish to tighten some joints so people can learn that the Mg exia isn't a lost cause, also I keep saying this but they should have replaced most of the polycaps in the kit with ABS, PS, of KPS plastic (my hopes go to repair 4 to do the deed)
This isn't a kit I would say to never get, but it's got just enough problems in key areas that I wouldn't suggest it. On top of the wonky ankles, the original also has the ribbons going from the shoulders to the biceps that basically make it impossible to have the arms out at all. I just left them off on mine, but I shouldn't have to do that, especially with what a signature design element it is for the Exia. tl,dr we need a 2.0 (or, hell, a 1.5)
Just due to this kit existing, I don't forsee them releasing a 2.0 Exia, however I believe they really should release one because this 1.0 really stands out in a bad way when against the other GN Machines.
I really wish someone would sell variant clear plastic color parts for model kits. Like diffrent color beam sabers, or instead of the green clear sword and dome colors. Maybe purple. Is that a thing that can be done?
What Exia do you recommend for a beginner builder? It's my favorite Gundam and based on reviews, other than the PG Exia, the other kits have mixed reviews.
I heard the MG Exia variants from 2017 and beyond had some sort of plastic improvements similar to the OVA and beyond Unicorn kits so wouldn't this be a bad test for the original Exia? Unless I'm mistaken and there weren't improvements
You have the re-release with the blue Bandai logo. This reissue of the Exia and its variants fixed most of the looseness issues present on the original kit. I have an Exia from the original "red Bandai" run, and it sucked. It was loose, moving parts would just flop around like the beam saber connectors and the GN Drive liked to fall apart every time i touched the kit. It's truly the worst kit i've ever built.
It could be so loose that mine usually fell apart by himself, sometimes even when i wasn't even at home to begin with. The original run was so floppy so loose that i used to think the kit had too much articulations for its own good
@@Gunpla_shrimp i know is an rg prototype thats a jok but im pre order mg virtue so im hoping that when the mg exia 2.0 the real 2.0 not rg but rg exia 2.0 would be cool but we not talking abot that so im hoping that the box art have mg exia in the back groud so im hoping this p bandai mg exia wapon part works on mg exia 2.0 becase i like the gn swrod kai than the gn swrod 1 but still cool hoping that the wapon fit the mg exia 2.0 finally came out
I just built the standard MG Exia in the past week and while I really like the kit the ankles and feet are definitely a problem. The feet on mine lock in place like they're supposed to, meaning that the Exia stands on the balls of its feet. However, most of the weight bears down on the arch so it doesn't take much to collapse the foot. When that happens the feet look like they do in this video meaning that the heels and collapsed arch are supported all the weight. When the center of gravity shifts the loose ankles can't support the weight so the Exia face plants. Sure, it's not that hard to make this kit stand, but it's far too easy to knock it over. Personally, I'd call it myth confirmed. Anyway, I'm considering adding some shims under the feet to prevent them from collapsing.
As always, the inevitable question is. Do you want to buy it? Me: I preordered this as soon as it was announced and I have to wait until August to get it.
I Have the daban exia avalanche..that includes the parts for exia normal,r2 and r3..but since i build the avalanche only, the parts for r2 and r3 is useless....for now
Sometimes just avoid the stuff that Jabman says in his review, even tho he build a lot of MG but he didn't build the kit from many others companies, he has less model building experience than Zaku. A lot of stuff he says are exaggerated and most of the time he never pay attention to the manual.....like MG Zeta 2.0, he said that kit is IMPOSSIBLE to stand which lmfao....I have the kit beside me and I never had a problem with that. I have the MG Exia as my 1st ever MG kit, the kit is very loose now because of my fault. But OOB build I don't have any issue. Might need to get another one to build it one more time :)
Yes, because the guy who's built Gunpla for more than 15 years is not "experienced". Arbitrary evidence means nothing. So many "great" kits ended being bad or mediocre in my experience and vice versa. Does that mean they're wrong? Every kit is different. I don't agree with X person =/= this person is wrong.
@@dgas5904 I'm not saying is wrong, but sound like he exaggerating the weak point on some particular kit way too much and it ended up been a negative point which is an easy fix. Straight building gunpla for 15-20 years doesn't make you an "experienced" modeler....and someone who are experienced will not say something like "bad nubs"
Yeah I will say I never understood the commentary on nubs in reviews 🤔 jabman isn’t the only one who does it. I’ll very rarely mention it if it’s a particularly egregious one, or regarding plated kits for example. But yeah, seems weird to mention normally

I feel like the mg exia doesn't really need a 2.0 after this review
Well...dark green looks better when you have leds installed, light green would be almost transparent - mythbust this :)
Have you ever tried Mg Exia standing without a stand on? Fully weaponized standing without the use of any stand? I doubt.
Lol didn't you made a video reviewing some bandai announcement talking about a mg Exia 2.0, mg silver bullet and altas ver ka?
That was an April’s fools video…
@@ZakuAurelius Really? Damn, you fooled me then
You have the re-release with the blue Bandai logo.
The original run was so floppy so loose that i used to think the kit had too much articulations for its own good
thank you sooo much for this! ppl are crying and overexagerating sooo much when it comes to gunpla
RG Zeta Mythbusters coming next week!
@@ZakuAurelius lookin forward to it 👌
Adam Savage would be proud
I didn't know any of these issues with the Exia, all I knew was that mecha kept saying it likes to fall apart
_Got the RG instead anyways lolololol_
I literally said, "ooo I like that dark flatter green" and you said ugly and I was like welp fuck me then hahaha
Didn't Bandai somehow improve the ankles of the kit after like 2016 or whatever year? At least that's what a lot of people have been saying about it.
After the release of the darkmatter exia? Yeah, I've heard the same.
nope, have the type f and still can't stand and the hip weapom storage are trash
Leaning hard into his new persona.. ExiaAurelius.. lmao..
LOL!
Your box is soooo pretty:33
Awesome and beautiful
I alreadt have the MG Exia, but don´t know to buy R3 RG or R3 MG, help!
get this
As Well Too...
I’d say the unicorn gundam’s ankle are really bad. The MG one both the original ver.ka and the ova color.
Hobby star exia and astrea variants were way better than bandai's. hope you can review that 3rd party.
Needs a 2.0
If this is Gundam Mythbusters then are you Adam Savage or Jamie Hyneman?
Zak has some Grant energy IMO.
WHY DIDN'T I HEAR ABOUT THIS P-BANDAI?! DAMN YOU BANDAI!!
i hop the wapon can put on exia 2.0 next year
Wait, is that already confirmed?
@@ootb-builds yas but not color yet

@@Gunpla_shrimp i know is an rg prototype thats a jok but im pre order mg virtue so im hoping that when the mg exia 2.0 the real 2.0 not rg but rg exia 2.0 would
be cool but we not talking abot that so im hoping that the box art have mg exia in the back groud so im hoping this p bandai mg exia wapon part works on mg exia 2.0 becase i like the gn swrod kai than the gn swrod 1 but still cool hoping that the wapon fit the mg exia 2.0 finally came out
They literally pulled the gn blade from the exia dark matter and recolored it
lol lorewise the amazing exia (original plan) was based off the repair 2 which isn't credited due to licensing issues
I'm pretty pissed mine never came in the mail
so I can build a regular exia and a semi r2 with that kit huh?, cool
If pb make mg gundam dynamic repair 2 or 3 I will buy it the sec I see it
now wait till they announce MG Exia R4
“Kitbusters?” :)
I had an oopsie in my HGCE Destiny review saying that I couldn’t get it to stand. About 100 comments told me “MINE STANDS JUST FINE!” 😅
I'd rather have them make an MG r4 Exia than a 2.0 tbh.
