Christina, Sydney Australia. Thankyou so much for your fabulous video on my favourite plant. I first saw this beautiful plant in Lismore, New south Wales, Australia.in 2012. The mN who gave me a cutting said it was called Brazillian Plu Me and he brought back to Australia from Brazil. I've never seen it anywhere in Sydney until my research brought me to you. My plant took many years to flower and I'm so thrilled with it. Thanks again. Happy gardening ❤
Hi, Christina! What an amazing journey for your plant-from Lismore to Sydney and now thriving in your garden! I’m so happy your research brought you to me. :) Looking forward to chatting more with you in the future. Happy gardening! ❤️🌿
One plant I’ve heard is native to Florida, but haven’t seen much coverage of is the Wax Myrtle. I was considering using that as a privacy hedge for a narrow side yard that gets a lot of water drainage. It would be great if you could highlight this one!
Thank you & Brice for your AMAZING Videos. I live in West Palm Beach and I have been watching your videos for that last few weeks now. You're very knowledgeable & you're an amazing designer. TY
I am in Sarasota county and managed to find these at a nursery in Englewood. I bought 3 and have them on West side of the house. I hope the summer sun doesn’t ruin them. They start getting sun around 12:30 - 1:00. Can’t wait for them to flower. And now that I know they are easy to propagate, they will be in many more areas of the yard! I just moved here from CT, so I’m a newbie to Florida gardening. Thank you for educating us. I love your channel and grateful to have found you. You are amazing ❤
Mine froze back a little when we reached 30 for a few hours, so I'd say no colder than that. They did flush back; however, I lost a few feet of the plants. Hope that helps.
Yeah for Brazilian Red Cloaks! I looked hard for these last year and finally found some. They are still small (2ft) but I am thrilled with their potential! Please do a video on fertilizing! 👏🏻
Hello Jennifer. I'm in Vero Beach too, moved here a year ago and i'm planting all the plants you plant. How lucky i am to have you as a teacher!! Please tell me, do you grow them in full sun? Mine were struggling but Now I think it was because of the winds rather than the sun so I planted them in half shade. Thank you!
True gardener :) I would love a video on soil too! I'm in SWFL and a friend of mine said there are no hummingbirds in this area. I'm hoping to plant lots of plants for them and prove her wrong. Thank you :)
Hey True Gardener, it's Bryce! Thanks a lot for your comment! Even though I might not completely have got her creative vision, I still love being involved haha. 😃 Thanks for tuning in and watching!
Hi I'm Katerina from Cyprus in the Mediterranean where I have few Megaskepasma shrubs flowering in October. If I prune after flowering I am in winter (min4Cat night) with the danger of the tips dying back. They grow enormous here in my 43 C summer sun so when do I trim and how low. Thks. Love your vidros
Love watching you preform your magic. I went to a nursery this weekend and had a list from your show. After the second plant he looked at me and said "How do you know about these plants?" I told him about your channel.😂😂 Where do you get your dwarf fire bushes.
Wonderful! I just love that! They are pretty common here if your local you can find them at Ed Millers, Palm City or North at Emerald Island Nursery in Cocoa or Treasure coast in Vero Beach. Best of Luck on your garden!
Just wanted to say that you have the best page on TH-cam!!!!! I had a question about the Brazilian Red Cloak. I bought them 8 months ago & have them in the front of my house getting full sun in the morning until about 1:00-2:00 PM They are dropping a lot of leaves & turning brown on the ends. Is that a sign of not getting enough water?
Thank you and more than likely, so,especially with the recent heats I have my watering on them every day for 20 minutes in the full sun. They can really eat up that water.
Well hello true Gardener, not sure I have your question right but if you are asking which is my favorite. its Brazilian red cloaks all the way. I have both and the cloaks look nicer throughout the year.
Looking forward to the soil tutorial. I have clay, big time. Most of my stuff (palms, ti's, cycads) do well in it , but even when I mix cactus/ palm mix into my plantings, the evil clay seems to reclaim it's territory :(
Thank you for this question I can’t believe I missed mentioning it. So they need min of 3 hours sun. Morning sun is perfect. They can handle full sun however they need to be large before they are able to handle afternoon sun. They are perfect for a sunny location with a little bit of canopy coverage to beak up the harshness of full sun. Hope that makes sense.
Why thank you I have! They are perfect for a corner or grouped planting however Becky Clusia are such a solid even planting it’s hard to compete with them when it comes to a neat solid buffer.
Hi @kelliwebb2870! Sorry to hear about your Brazilian Red Cloaks. Pruning them back is a great idea to help them rebound. Just trim off any damaged or dead sections, and they should start growing back strong. Let me know how they do! 🌿
The year we got down to 30 degrees for only a couple hours I had significant burn on them. They were about 8ft tall and pretty full insulated with planting on both sides. So I’d say a cold winter could wipe them out. 😢
If the temp goes below 30 they will freeze. I haven’t had to cover mine however ended up with heavy burn the year we got down to 30 degrees for just a couple of hours. 😢
They love partial sun with a min. of 3 hours. Perfect for full sun environment underneath the canopy of oaks or palm trees for some protection from the harshness of the sun. I have mine in all morning sun in the front yard and covered canopy coverage in my backyard. They bloom more in a sunnier environment.

Great plant. How much frost colder temps can they tolerate or will they grow back. Any videos about soils would be great

BEAUTIFUL PLANT Jennifer! Is that one whole plant or multiple side by side?!
It’s actually 3- 7-gallon plants wrapped in like a half circle.
@@TrueGardener just incredible! great choice for that area!
Informative and passionate as always☀️🦋
Thank you kindly :)
What would be a similar plant that would be safe to have in a yard with dogs?
Can these be used as a hedge? What’s the best hedge for privacy in full sun? Please I would love to know the type of soil needed for these.
True gardener..thanks for your videos..firespike plant v brazilian red cloak?

I hear ya, that can be a tough environment for our tropicals. I hope to get to that video soon.
Amazing as ever❤
Thank you!
TRUE GARDENER!!!! light requirements (shade/sun)?
Thank you for this question I can’t believe I missed mentioning it. So they need min of 3 hours sun. Morning sun is perfect. They are perfect for a sunny location with a little bit of canopy coverage to beak up the harshness of full sun. Hope that makes sense.
Beautiful plant! Definitely going to try to find this one. Would you use this in place of calusia? Also, looks like you’ve lost weight!
Why thank you I have! They are perfect for a corner or grouped planting however Becky Clusia are such a solid even planting it’s hard to compete with them when it comes to a neat solid buffer.
The yesterday today tomorrow has not bloomed...do they need a special fertilizer? They were planted in April TY
they do have a short blooming season and often times don’t bloom the entire first season after planting so it may not be till next year.
My Brazilian red cloaks took a beating in Helene and Milton. Do you think pruning them back would help them rebound?
Hi @kelliwebb2870! Sorry to hear about your Brazilian Red Cloaks. Pruning them back is a great idea to help them rebound. Just trim off any damaged or dead sections, and they should start growing back strong. Let me know how they do! 🌿
What month do you fertilize with the Bougain?
In the growing season I do it every 60 days from March - Sept
Will they come back from freeze in North Florida?
The year we got down to 30 degrees for only a couple hours I had significant burn on them. They were about 8ft tall and pretty full insulated with planting on both sides. So I’d say a cold winter could wipe them out. 😢
Can this be planted in 10b South Florida?
Yes they love a hot environment, I’d plant them where they get a little protection from the sun, so not direct afternoon sun. Good luck!
Can these be planted in zone 9a (northern Saint Augustine area)?
If the temp goes below 30 they will freeze. I haven’t had to cover mine however ended up with heavy burn the year we got down to 30 degrees for just a couple of hours. 😢
How much sun can they take ?
They love partial sun with a min. of 3 hours. Perfect for full sun environment underneath the canopy of oaks or palm trees for some protection from the harshness of the sun. I have mine in all morning sun in the front yard and covered canopy coverage in my backyard. They bloom more in a sunnier environment.
