Greetings from Kenya and welcome. The Brazilian Red cloak is such a beautiful Shrub and it will do well in Florida. Its fast growing and quick and easy to propagate.
Wonderfully done. I’m here in Belize. I will take your good advice to make a wall of Brazilian cloak for the hummingbirds 🥳 I use papaya trees, which grow very rapidly, as nanny plants. I’ll Plant out several papayas, then plant my seedling trees or young plants in their shade, that way they get protection while they “catch” and grow their root system. After One and a half to two years the papaya is finished producing, so I will cut it down and use it is mulch for the now established tree or plant.
Sounds exciting and happy Gardening. I love the idea of using Papaya mulch. We too in Kenya have Papayas. The Red Cloak propagates so quickly from cuttings and bloom all year round so am sure you will enjoy them. Sending Greetings from Kenya.
I have propagated the orange and pink variety that I got from my neighbour. They arw still so young at 6 weeks but doing great. Thank you for the care tips.
Whilst propagating the soil should be evenly moist and not soggy. The water will assist in root formation and also supplies the cutting with oxygen. Be sure to change the water every three days to prevent the bui;d up of algae.
Thank you from Seminole, Florida. love the Brazilian Red Cloak. I first saw them in Costa Rica, just beautiful.
