It's stories like this that has kept me from going solar. I'd rather pay a higher electric bill than get stuck with a $76,000 loan along with a high electric bill from NV Energy. I don't think it's worth the risk. My neighbor went solar and gets no sun in the afternoon because of the trees on the west side of his house. The tree's are not on his property. He will be paying for that mistake for 25 years.
The only way solar arrays are actually beneficial and actually works is if you get a large battery bank and high output panels. Cleared of shading potentials and Preferably installed as a ground mount array if you have space or else there will be a chance for Roof leaks no matter what
Rule of thumb I follow is if you can get Solar Installed for less than $3 per watt before tax incentives, it's a good deal. There needs to be a ceiling to the price per watt install that people are bothering to agree to, otherwise these systems might never pay for themselves. Anything that takes more than 10 years to pay for itself is also not a good deal.
All it takes is a pore install for the thing to never work out. I can tell you my 28 panel 300w per panel system does not produce more electricity than the cost of the system per month and never will. and now with peaking it truly never will, you would be better served by having a battery back up that charges at night and runs during the peak hours. A solar array is to expensive and repairs are costly and good luck when they wont repair faulty equipment or go bankrupt. "Now with peaking, it truly never will". This comment makes no sense. Also I have no idea where you're located, how many roofing penetrations you have, etc. Faulty equipment is the responsibility of the manufacturer, not the installer so the installer's warranty is worthless anyway. Also if you had an old roof with old paper and you installed solar, that was a mistake on your part and the installer's part. The tiles may last a long time but anytime you start a new roofing penetration, the surrounding area should get new paper.

Same thing happened with my retired parents. They got solar panels only to find that company was taking most of the collected energy for themselves. They were paying for the lease on those panels and for an electric bill that never went down. When my parents found out, they went to the company. The company's reply was, "You never told us not to." Now, they can't even remove the panels. That company, Tesla Solar. Got the receipts to prove it.
That sounds bad but leases always are a trap. If you buy a car for $40k it’s $40k if you lease it for 5 years at normal apr levels then the same car cost you $60-$80k 5 years later. I purchased a solar system and it has more than paid for itself in 10 years already. If not ten plus thousand more then cost by now. And the solar city- now Tesla system has 10 years of warranty and production left still. I would say that purchasing a solar system makes sense , however a lease Never would; just like with most things in life
You clearly stated it's a leased system, therefore your parents should've read the contract. Leasing and purchasing a solar system have completely different benefits.
@@mattm7377 unless your solar array is installed on a large business or commercial compound i highly doubt your system has more than paid for itself 🤣🤣👎 solar systems 10 years ago were a lot more expensive and produced half of what they produce nowadays. So please don't lie about paying off your system in 10 years when it usually takes 20, all while it also payed for itself.. There's no way ill believe that unless your monthly bill was over 1k before solar.
Thing with these types of businesses are, even if they go bankrupt up or end up in massive debt(and then claim bankruptcy), they will just reappear under a different name and do everything all over again with little or no real consequences.
That's what I was thinking. Maybe the best way to avoid that is to revoke the licenses of the individual business owners, rather than the company. Maybe. Not a lawyer 🤷♀
I've long come to the conclusion that the day I get solar for my home, I'll first educate myself and do the work myself. At the very least, if I'm going to have a company do it, I'll research the heck out of their past work to confirm other customers were happy with them. I don't blame these people, but it's clear Titan has a long history of not getting the job done. Honestly, it seems as though they simply don't know what they're doing and will never be able to do the job they're supposed to.
I've been in this specific industry for over 10 years now and i can assure you each and every existing solar company has a current lawsuit pending. Either for the system underperforming or for property damage. The moral of the story is that panels were never intended to be installed on homes roof. If you have landscape for the array then that's the best way.
What I did was ask the company for phone numbers to prior customers. I researched them to make sure they were legit, called them, and spoke to them about their experience inside and out. I used Solaire with Palmetto. It's been almost 3 years and we haven't paid more than $62/month in electricity. Lots of savings. Everything well done and right on time! Interestingly this was a company that knocked on our door after we moved in. I was definitely a very difficult customer but persistence is key!
I do stage by stage work. From concept to phased design ,purchases and installation takes five days max ,with licenced roof guy included. Sad to see how companies are greedy as they pay us peanuts
Your friend had a crap roof. Or that statement is b.s. I've been in Home Improvement industry 20 years. Never has a roof given way due to solar panel installation. Panels are much lighter than roof air-conditioning.
I'm really impressed with the Nevada State Contractors Board. We hired a contractor to do repair work on our roof at Incline Village and the contractor never finished the job before the winter set in. So during that winter whatever work he did made the roof worse. We tried to make him come back to repair the damage and he demanded more money before he'd do anything else. We contacted the SCB and got them involved. In the end, the contractor was told to come up with an engineering plan that they can approve, and then do the repair. By the time the SCB got involved they basically supervised the contractor to complete the job.
$900 a month in electric bill?? Dam thats more than my mortgage. Ill stop complaining how much my mortgage and at most $200 electric/gas bill during the winter......
In the summer you pay 300- 500 a month for electricity to cool your home during the winter the electric bill drops to about 75.00 but the gas bill goes up to the same when heating during winter
I’ve worked in solar for many years. Stay away from PPAs, leases, and all Tesla equipment. If you don’t have the cash to buy the system outright go to a local bank that offers energy efficiency loans with a term of no more than 10 years and a fixed rate.
it was always a scam because they know people don't know it takes a lot of batteries to run the panels. the cost is not cheaper, and you won't live long enough to pay it off.
Kathy you don't have to have batteries to use the electric flowing from the sun to the roof panels then into your breaker box during the sunny day! the batteries would store electric during the sunny day so you can use the stored electric at dark night time. I said 20 years ago why don't they make solar panels to look like roof shingles? well they do now!
I’m glad that I backed out of my signed contract within the three day quit period. A few days later, I spokesperson from the company called to tell me that the salesman had been fired for misrepresenting the product, miscalculating data, etc. then the spokesperson asked if I wanted to enter into a new contract. I said, “no”….. I ended up getting numerous calls from other solar companies for 2 years because that solar company sold my data. I think that solar panel installation companies are mostly crooked.
Good on her for standing up for herself.......I live in another country and my husband is an electronics geek so he knew who would install solar panels properly and if there was any problem he would ask them why they were doing this or that?
The solar, HVAC, electricians and roofing companies are often in bed together, helping to keep work flowing through for everyone, due to the damage solar systems do to your home. YET, in Europe, they have other alternatives, and use more powerful solar cell technology, so that you can do solar without roof panels. But the solar industry won't allow for those other options to take root here, because they're heavily invested in roof solar.
EXACTLY! The technology is put there to power this lady’s home with 1 panel, YET that tech hasn’t been approved because how much could they get for 1 panel!
@fernyv4368 agreed because living in a better and bigger house that you can upgrade to your likings for a cheaper mortgage than renting lesser or an apartment because that wound be a chump move
Unfortunately many solar contractors are severely lacking in proper electrical training and proper electrical workmanship. They are simply "winging it" when it comes to their installations. I quit the business because I was competing up against a bunch of ruthless yahoos and it sucked all of my enthusiasm dry. These days I still do technical support for the solar industry and it is super disappointing. The vast majority of my technical resources go towards asking the installer if they even read the freaking manual! Also there is a huge switch towards battery base systems which makes it even worse because you cannot simplify energy storage systems into a cookie-cutter model. And the technical installation practices make it even harder for these under trained folks.
I have a conventional power system because the highest my power bill gets in the summer in 300 dollars...it would make no sense to spend a bunch of money on solar and be paying the loan off for years

Why isn't titan being made to refund to those who have had shody work done by them. Titan needs consequences so other installers know shody incomplete work will not be tolerated.
I always wonder how safe is the solar panel installations on the roofs of homes. I worry about drilling screws into the roofing materials and how it might damage the roofs over time (rain, dust, etc). I wonder about the quality of work performed by these 3rd party contractors as well.
I was a respectable contractor in Santa Barbara and have done about 350 homes over 10 years and I have absolutely zero leaks on my installations after 15 years. However I have quit the business because I am competing up against a bunch of untrained yahoos these days.
My gut feeling is that most of the solar companies are shams. Had a friend in Wisconsin that had a system installed and was told that the installer had damaged his roof during the solar panel install and it would need to be replaced. After removing all the solar panels of course.
They need to have the license suspended, be sued and kicked out of the state. Shout out from Seattle Washington. The whole world knows you guys suck. Way to go Titan
We have a neighbor down the street who pays 400 bucks a month for ten years on her new solar panels..just because she didn’t like 70 to 100 a month electric bill..then I hear they only last 10 years and you have to replace them…a sucker born every minute.
Warranty is 20-25 years on the panels, inverter is 10 -25 year depending on type of inverter. Solar PV can be a great deal, an OK deal or a BAD deal, it just depends on the contract.
I'm a LA girl but my entire family lives in Vegas, first thing I did when I heard about this company was letting them know to be careful and not get this company. 2 if my brothers are thinking of going solar this year so I think people need to spread the word. This is why you READ a contract fully. Do your homework and understand what they should and will do. If it is in the contract to paint the walls pink, then if they don't, you can sue for not fulfilling the contract. Also, don't pay till work is done!
I work at Summit airconditioning in Las Vegas and if we break something whether it's a plumbing pipe ,electrical wiring, stucco, drywall, ect we pay to get it fixed if we cant fix it ourselves.

This is such a shame. There are unscrupulous companies in every business. They give the industry a bad rap. I work for a solar installation company and we used to work with Titan. In the short amount of time we worked with them, there were always issues. Customers would be unhappy and blame it on us since we installed. A lot of issues with solar come from the sales team. They set unrealistic expectations and it always comes back to bite US in the a$$. Each job had at least 3 problems due to Titan’s operating procedures. People will sign loan documents for 25 years without reading the contract thoroughly. Please due your due diligence and fully understand what you are getting yourself into. plus the roof heats up the backside of the panels. On the ground they get lots of airflow. What I can't get my head around is the wind loading of those 2 sided panels. 2x4ft sails hanging off the gutters. Around here that would rip your roof off.
Sounds like Titan is another solar company operated by people that jumped into the solar business with a serious lack of knowledge about solar and no construction experience. When I was looking to add solar I investigated the options and chose a roofing company that has been in business for generations and still run by the family (I decided to install a new roof at the same time). The company had already a lot of solar installations in my area and all the homeowners I spoke with were very happy. The salesman and solar design engineer I worked with were great and worked with me to give exactly what I wanted. My system is well engineered for my usage and climate (Northeast) and with net metering I haven’t paid for electricity since the system went live in 2016. I do pay a monthly customer charge of $3.25 for months when my annual credit balance is used up. Solar can be very cost effective when designed (and installed) properly for the right location - and not every location and roof is right for solar.
What's funny is the Palestinians use solar power and even install it themselves they don't have all the issues that Americans seem to have. Solar is actually really easy and works America and California made it as complicated and cumbersome as possible .
Solar PV is not a scam in of itself but there are scammers that sell it just like there are scammers that sell anything and everything. My Solar PV system paid for itself within 5 years. Rule of thumb: 10 year payback or less, Install cost $3 per watt or less before tax incentives. Anything above that, I won't touch.
Solar has always been a scam . If it’s such a win why do need sales people going door to door trying to sell it ? If you’re paying $900 a month on electricity it’s time to downsize lady !!! Guess what smaller homes use less energy.
Or you're just ignorant because Solar PV isn't any more of a scam than a used car or a vacuum cleaner is a "scam". There are scammers everywhere, people just need to know how to avoid them as best as they can.
Titan is a very scummy company. Anybody ask. I say do not do business with them at all unless you like getting ripped off. If you like getting ripped off then please proceed. They'll do it in a manner to leave your head spinning
My employer has a huge solar setup covering the roof of the factory. The electrical box with the wires/conduit sitting on the ground against the building. Looks so simple.
It is simple. the problem these people run into is trying to sell the power to the utilities. that restricts what equipment can be used, and how it has to be installed. Keep it on your side of the meter, and it is that simple. I put in 5 subpanels to zone my house, and as I installed more power, I added more zones to it. Kept the layout small, and the end of life also spreads out so no big hit there either. I use the power savings to expand, so the ROI is already paid for.
Unfortunately I'm another customer affected by Titan Solar's inability to get things right, they installed a system for me 5 years ago and although there were no install issues, the system was severely under-calculated which means it doesn't produce enough to cover our usage and our electrical bill is still high. When I reached out to them, their solution was to replace the inverter and add more panels, to a cost comparable to what I initially paid for the system, effectively doubling my expense.
The “free solar” power purchase agreements are the absolute worst way to get solar. You sign a 20-25 year contract that is tied to your deed. Make monthly payments to them and your electric company for a “connection” fee. The company gets your federal tax rebate, carbon offsets and any excess power you don’t use. The company gets a legal easement to your roof and property and should you sell the buyer has to “qualify” and sign a new 20-25 year contract regardless of how long you’ve been paying.
Not totally true. Buyer can refuse the panels and seller must have solar company remove them and repair the roof. They do not have to have it in the contract, either. The problem with the panels is between you and the solar company. If they are not removed, 30 days post sale they ate abandoned property and now belong to the new owner free and clear.
I have had a different history here in Missouri. I chose a company associated with generac equipment. Existing system and added battery backup and a whole house generator. Neat installation. and doing just what it should. I had an upfront contract, I purchased the house in the rural area with 53 330 Watt solar panels. I will admit it took longer as they do install in a wide area around Springfield Mo. and the same techs doing the install. Even had supervisor come out and help. Thanks Solera
How dare someone try to be smart with their money... Solar PV can make sense just like anything in life, there are scammers everywhere but that doesn't mean the item in question is a scam in of itself. My solar PV systems paid for themselves within 5 years but it is true many people get scammed.

Got the receipts to prove it.
if u want justice create it
I hope that you're finding legal action you can take!
Don't use use any construction contractor until you fully vetted them There are so many crooks out there...as iI found out the hard way.
Yeah, I don't want to blame these people, but this company has a long history of not getting the job done.

There are lots of good installers
Thing with these types of businesses are, even if they go bankrupt up or end up in massive debt(and then claim bankruptcy), they will just reappear under a different name and do everything all over again with little or no real consequences.
That's what I was thinking. Maybe the best way to avoid that is to revoke the licenses of the individual business owners, rather than the company.
Maybe. Not a lawyer 🤷♀
Correct, without paying any (or little) money out to fix issues too, because of the bankruptcy protection.
They hired landscapers to install it
They all hire landscapers
50% of Solar installers are illegal incompetent migrants
What some of these companies pay the workers this is mostly likely true.
Shitt, even a landscaper can do a better job.
Not sure if this is a joke... but its pretty close to the truth
Make sure your homeowners insurance will continue insuring you if you have solar panels on your roof. I live in SWF and mine will not.
DONT get solar. It is a scam through and through.
My friends house roof collapsed from solar panels here in vegas
Your friend had a crap roof. Or that statement is b.s. I've been in Home Improvement industry 20 years. Never has a roof given way due to solar panel installation. Panels are much lighter than roof air-conditioning.
what is more ironic than having a solar commercial at the end of this video..
Name the contractor.
Good to know
Was there a byden anywhere along the payline? Maybe anyone that took 10 off the top?
They only took action because the media is involved. Everything in Nevada is s scam. Move.
That's pitiful. Who was it?
$900 a month in electric bill?? Dam thats more than my mortgage. Ill stop complaining how much my mortgage and at most $200 electric/gas bill during the winter......
In the summer you pay 300- 500 a month for electricity to cool your home during the winter the electric bill drops to about 75.00 but the gas bill goes up to the same when heating during winter
Stating facts.
Las Vegas only has one power company and they are very expensive
$900/month electric bill? That's outrageous for a 3500 sf house. Such wasteful people.
If you set all ACs to full blast in summer to keep it cool, that costs a boatload of money.
I’ve worked in solar for many years. Stay away from PPAs, leases, and all Tesla equipment. If you don’t have the cash to buy the system outright go to a local bank that offers energy efficiency loans with a term of no more than 10 years and a fixed rate.
Thanks for the heads up. Are their any brands or setups that you recommend?
Thank you
What is PPAs?
I’m amazed at how many fall for this.
PPA 'S that's a good program for people that can't afford to buy solar outright
Solar. Nope.
So glad someone is there to protect her and the families 😊
it was always a scam because they know people don't know it takes a lot of batteries to run the panels. the cost is not cheaper, and you won't live long enough to pay it off.
Kathy you don't have to have batteries to use the electric flowing from the sun to the roof panels then into your breaker box during the sunny day! the batteries would store electric during the sunny day so you can use the stored electric at dark night time. I said 20 years ago why don't they make solar panels to look like roof shingles? well they do now!
solar panels run on rainbows and unicorns, but batteries.
. *Run the panels? You appear very confused on what solar panels do.*
I'm doing a survey; did you vote for Trump?
This company just shut their doors 2 nights ago, letting go of all employees via email at 11PM.
Never buy a house

Sue for damages
Now if a lawyer's name was Susan, her billboard could read: "Sue! For Damages!"
The solar installation company that did our solar left an open trench in our yard.
I have a conventional power system because the highest my power bill gets in the summer in 300 dollars...it would make no sense to spend a bunch of money on solar and be paying the loan off for years
@neckarsulme I totally agree. our 3 bdrm frame ranch w/ finished LL in NO. E Mo. retirees elec. in summer $150 mth., range, furnace are gas all other appl. r elec. changed all bulbs to led inside and out, we keep thermostat on 71 year around. take a flashlight and look underneath all window sills and recaulk, same in basement look at top of walls with step ladder where concrete meets wood framing with flashlight i felt air blowing at face!! caulked all the way around the basement. insulation in attic had settled to only 6 inches have 18 inches blown in. Be careful when getting solar panels on these roofs. Some insurance companies will cancel your policy for putting these panels on a roof.
Your statement should read: "Be careful who you purchase insurance from"
GOOD. These battery consumers need shut down.
That's a hoax. Doesn't happen in reality.
The only thing that's excluded is installation by unlicensed moonlighters since they can't be trusted to get the electrics right.
If it’s done right, you won’t have issues.
Sounds like somebody enjoys committing fraud until Titan suddenly declares bankruptcy.
I love her attitude about this nightmare
If your reading this, have a great day today.
You too😊
Lord Jesus Christ bless you and yours.
One of the worst things that you can do is pay someone to upgrade your house and they come in messing it up. What a nightmare!!!
This are too many cases to be just a coincidence
If you don't do the solar yourself or at least try to learn a system then u will get robbed. Time n time again we see this.
I did ALL mine myself and couldn't be happier. Have been using some panels for 25 years with no problems. It all paid off LONG ago. I have had power bills as low as $5. I think they actually raised the minimum service charge because of me, in another state.

This is such a shame. There are unscrupulous companies in every business. They give the industry a bad rap. I’m a command residential installer and I have turned down jobs where the orientation of the house was wrong for solar or where there were big beautiful trees on neighbor’s property that would decrease the system output. On occasion, I’ll see another company has convinced the homeowner that it would work and sold them a bill of goods. Make sure you are dealing with a reputable company.
They will not save you money, you will still get a fee for regular electric bill. But more importantly that job is a complete mess who in the fk cuts into finished exterior and leaves massive gaps? It’s like when like called California water hogs but Nevada is using the well water for lithium and Nevada still has golf courses. Same deceptive behavior with this solar company. Who in the fk takes years to install this Mickey mouse set up?
My system is super clean and my bill has gone from $300 a month to about $25 a month and my pay back period Ended up being less than four years. Don't generalize..
How can this company still be in business???
How can their lawyer defend the company when they have so many complaint’s ⁉️

@ maybe, but this company has a bad reputation, so I’m not sure the homeowner is at fault.
Solar isn’t worth it for everyone. My job won’t even design a system if it doesn’t make sense. I am proud to work with a group of ethical, caring people who actually know how to bend conduit!
This is why you don't put solar panels on your roof. This is not the only company. Such a problem, and it will take years to resolve. 😢
plus the roof heats up the backside of the panels. On the ground they get lots of airflow.
What I can't get my head around is the wind loading of those 2 sided panels. 2x4ft sails hanging off the gutters. Around here that would rip your roof off.
I'm pumping the brakes on using Titan. Thanks for the heads up
I know the owner of that company he's been scamming people for years
This is why I did my research. I got 20 panels installed and could not be happier.
Yeah, it's really unfortunate that peoples' takeaway from this is "All solar is bad" rather than "Some companies are scammers"
@Helladamnleet
it's inefficient trash
Watching stuff like this definitely makes me not want to invest in getting solar at my home.
Why would I invest thousands when I have a power cord hooked right up to my house that has been providing electricity for at least the last 75 years?
I don't see any panels in all that rubble. But you have it right. democrats made it a mess. just like hamas made gaza a mess.
Don't pay them, sue the hell outta them!
Solar is a total scam. My electricity bill is -200, plus I have a Tesla, which I charge at my home.
So how is your electric bill -200 without solar?
electric cars are a scam as well!
@@DZCamaro-kz2vd me not paying a gas bill isn’t a scam. Say what you want, I would NEVER go back
Yeh, problem is, they sub out the work and that is where Titan loses control over installation and workmanship in general. Happens all the time

Solar has always been a scam . If it’s such a win why do need sales people going door to door trying to sell it ? If you’re paying $900 a month on electricity it’s time to downsize lady !!! Guess what smaller homes use less energy.

This woman has batteries! It is vastly different with backed up circuits.
Always research the solar company you hire. She should have chosen Robco.

I decoded I dont need solar!

Omg
.😮
Not totally true. Buyer can refuse the panels and seller must have solar company remove them and repair the roof. They do not have to have it in the contract, either. The problem with the panels is between you and the solar company. If they are not removed, 30 days post sale they ate abandoned property and now belong to the new owner free and clear.
The solar crap is all a scam ! 😂😂
Solar works. Just some bad actors out there soiling the reputation of the tech
Another rich person. U notice only rich people or not so smart folks get these wild systems.
How dare someone try to be smart with their money... Solar PV can make sense just like anything in life, there are scammers everywhere but that doesn't mean the item in question is a scam in of itself. My solar PV systems paid for themselves within 5 years but it is true many people get scammed.
