I feel a part of my own life has died with her. She was my songleader when I was a freshman in high school and she was a senior in St. Paul. I had no idea she would transform the world as she transformed our own youth group. I'm so glad these videos are around so we can keep her memory and her songs as only she could sing them alive.
A very beautiful and moving song. Although Debbie no longer walks among us, her incredible legacy of spiritual music will continue to bless and inspire many.
Of all the songs we've heard in the 2-1/2 years since the death of our 39 year old son David, this song has moved us like no other and evokes the strong memories of him and how sadly we miss him and always will. You need to cry and we do. He never heard this song but he would have loved it. We hope he can hear it now.
My daughter was in a children's and then teen choir at Columbia Jewish Congregation in Columbia Maryland. The choirs sang a lot of Debbie's songs and this one became on unofficial theme song. We had a calligrapher write this with its music to give as a gift to a departing choir director. Debbie changed lives and lived Tikkun Olam. Her memory will be a blessing for eternity. The world will miss her greatly.
An Angel's Voice has been silenced on Earth. Debbie's life was a blessing, and her memory and music will continue to be a blessing for each of us who hears it and sings it. My prayers go out to Debbie's family and friends. May the healing power of her music help to heal their broken hearts at this sad, sad time.
Debbie and I worked together for 3 years. I had the honor of sitting with her the night before she left us. Tonight on Shavuot we sang L''chi Lach at Makom LA with Danny Maseng (her great fan). I felt her presence as I often do when we sing her songs. Thanks for posting this tribute. I am moved by all the people who remember her.
Dearest Debbie, thank you for opening your heart and soul so that we could open our hearts to G-d. You were a blessing on the planet and the gifts of your music transformed and healed. Though your time here was way too brief, the impact of your life is profound. You are a blessing.
This song has special meaning to me. It says go forth! It was the Torah portion the week i started my PTSD program in Rush combat PTSD program! It will all ways hold a soft spot in my heart! My heart forever changed from that point from there on! Toda Roba sweet Debbie
I have always loved Debbie Friedman's music but ironically I listened to this tonight on the exact day she passed away 7 years ago. You Shall Always Be A Blessing to all, Debbie.
This is the song we are using to memorialize our mother, Shirley CHernak Rubenstein today-- sending prayers for blessings to our planet and peace in our lifetime. Peace inside and out -- we are so blessed to have heard Debbie sing this at our temple! Thank you Rabbi Jan Goldstein for bringing her to our congregation so that our Bubbe's spirit will be forever blessed!
It was a special year - 1975 - at Camp Swig. This wonderful woman's voice captured my heart then and went on to appear in many states and many synogogues as a "welcome home" each time I heard yet another one of her beautiful pieces of music.
This is such a beautiful song. I always tear up when I hear it and have since I was a kid. The cantor at my temple has an unbelievable voice and brought the entire congregation to tears with her rendition. I'll never forget that.
One more thing....as Ritual Director of my Synagogue for 40 years, I sang her song "Mesheberach" each Shabbat at the Torah. I was very honored and her music helped enhance not only our services, but she enhanced Judiaism worldwide... May you Rest in Peace Debbie...
I started my journey from Debbie Friedman songs in NFTY camps, and followed the path to full Torah observance. One year ago, when my father passed away, we (his children) sang this song to him, in his final moments, literally blessing his soul on his way "home". "Lech l'cha, go, to a land that I will show you...". It was one of the most meaningful moments of my life.
I remember listening to this song as a song student at Sinai Akiba. I come back to this video a lot to hear it again. Thank you for uploading and keeping it alive!
L'Chi Lach Song by Debbie Friedman Lyrics L'chi lach, to a land that I will show you Leich l'cha, to a place you do not know L'chi lach, on your journey I will bless you And (you shall be a blessing) l'chi lach And (you shall be a blessing) l'chi lach And (you shall be a blessing) l'chi lach L'chi lach, and I shall make your name great Leich l'cha, and all shall praise your name L'chi lach, to the place that I will show you l'chi lach (L'sim-chat cha-yim) l'chi lach (L'sim-chat cha-yim) l'chi lach Songwriter: Debbie Friedman L'Chi Lach lyrics
z'l. You have blessed us with your beautiful songs and have taught us a new way to experience music. We bless you, and you will be missed! Your songs will live on through generations
I grew up singing Debbie Freidman songs before I even knew who she was. Her songs are the soundtrack of my youth may she rest in peace this is a beautiful song
Debbie...you were and always will be a Blessing. Thank-you for enhancing my life and spiritual journey. There are no words to express my gratitude and sense of loss. I cannot think of another artist or Rabbi who touched me more. Toda Rabah.
My aunt just adopted two children from Nepal. It was a long struggle lasting over 3 years but they're finally in the US. This song feels like it was written for them. Rip Debbie Friedman.
She was truly amazing and taken from us far too soon. I heard her sing in person on a number of occasions at her "home" Congregation BJBE (B'nai Joshua Beth Elohim), in Glenview, Illinois, and also at the bi-annual Greater Chicago Jewish Folk Arts Festival. Unforgettable!
I cry when I listen. My late wife called out to me one day: "Honey, this would be a good song to play in your dance class at Gilda's Club (for cancer survivors). I've played it ever since, and all sing along, whites, blacks, Christians, Hispanics, Asians. And they sometimes cry too.
One of the most beautiful melodies ever written, no doubt. I would love to teach this to a group of elementary school children in a music class and have them sing it in an end-of-the-year concert. Now that would make me cry!
So sad. She was a gift -- a bridge to the spiritual and her beautiful music remains. Of course lechi lach and mi sheberach but also Not by Miight and Miriam's Song. Every Pesach when the girls and women get up to dance we will always think of her. Blessings and peace.
I became a Jew back in 2014 ish. While i was in the hospital, someone gave me a tape of Ms Friedman's music. Her music is very beautiful and - and in a lot of ways healing.. i wish is could find the song "Let's make this a holy place". One of my favorites. Please Deut. 6:4.
i first heard this song over 14 years ago in my synagogue. i cried when i first heard it sung. it still stirs my emotions all these years later. debbie you were an angel on earth & your are surely an angel now.
I'm slowly discovering that so many of the songs I grew up with were by Debbie Friedman... I second @clubjuggle. Part of my childhood, along with the childhoods of several generations of Jews, have died.
I'm using this youtube clip as a musical scholar in residence at Debbie's hometown shul. Her spirit continues to emanate through us all. She has some unrecorded new stuff. What's becoming of that??
4:29 When I was little I wanted a guitar, and my mother got me a Sears Silvertone, a fearsome dreadnought beast that would have intimidated a teenage Elvis, much less a scrawny 9 year old. I remember trying to wrap myself over that thing.

A very beautiful and moving song. Although Debbie no longer walks among us, her incredible legacy of spiritual music will continue to bless and inspire many.
I had the privilege and joy of meeting her on a couple of occasions - such a bright, beautiful soul.

My mom just died a week ago at the age of 97. A friend of mine played the song on her flute during the memorial service.
I have no idea but this song always brings me to tears
I get goose-bumps listening to it.

I played this everyday while my beloved husband was dying from his terrible illness. And, the cantor sang it at his memorial service.
I have always loved Debbie Friedman's music but ironically I listened to this tonight on the exact day she passed away 7 years ago. You Shall Always Be A Blessing to all, Debbie.

I'm in tears... I feel like part of my childhood has died. Debbie, you were a blessing. We'll miss you, but your music and inspiration live on.
This is a terrible loss. I am without words. She completely shaped my childhood and spirit with her music. In deep gratitude.
And she was a Blessing to all who knew her.
Brings me to tears...beautiful....wish I had a chance to see her live. How blessed for all of your to experience her at Jewish camp or at your shuls.
We may loose the person but never her beautiful gift.

And (you shall be a blessing) l'chi lach
L'chi lach, and I shall make your name great
Leich l'cha, and all shall praise your name
