Great to see Debbie the songleader show her mastery. Knowing her music alone is wonderful; being mesmerized by her charismatic songleading gifts is a treat. Thank you for posting this! It takes me back...fascinating to see how she and Shlomo Carlebach, both, had so much presence in person, leaving behind a legacy of delicious timeless music....both of them standing on the shoulders of Pete Seeger!
I know it's not the most important aspect of Jewish music and even though I know it's been brought up by many of her colleagues before in the last six years , but I believe Debbie's stage presence in concert was completely underrated ! Just watch this video and you can see her magical capability to enchant and captivate her audience with her quick and witty sense of humor , positive encouragement , and despite whatever physical challenges she may have had on and off stage , her contagious ruach and never ending sense of energy ! Only the greatest of performers are able to grab control of their audiences and just like her inspiration of Peter , Paul , and Mary , Debbie Friedman had the unique ability to get a concert hall , sanctuary , or other setting of American Jews to find their Jewish neshama, their Jewish souls , and raise it up and bring it out strong , filling the room with song until they were singing unto God until another song would rise! I truly believe she will never get enough credit for that talent . Rabbi Eric Yoffie the former President of the URJ (Union for Reform Judaism ) once said , "Debbie Friedman reminded American Jews how to sing ", and I couldn't agree more with that quote ! As Raffi Cavoukian (Raffi) inspired generations of children to sing , and Peter , Paul , and Mary inspired generations of adults to sing , Debbie Friedman inspired and continues to inspire North American Jews of all ages everywhere to find their Jewish voices and sing unto God! L'dor vador, from generation to generation and todah rabbah, thank you for everything Debbie, you are truly missed in today's world , but never forgotten , rest in peace my friend !
@@peopleofthecant Yasher Koach, Mazel Tov , and best of luck to you ! She was and still is an inspiration to this millenial who has always been enchanted by the world of American folk music! If not for Debbie Friedman, I would have been totally disconnected from our tradition ! I am eternally indebted to her and so many others !
Obviously, she still has the ability to draw us into her world of song. It is now July 27, 2023 and we are still mesmerized by her. She has been gone for more than a dozen years and she is still a FAVORITE of so many of us. MAY HER VOICE BE A BLESSING.
This is the Debbie I knew at Temple Emanu-el in Willingboro, NJ, where she started writing music while she was "Artist in Residence" for the 1970-1971 year.
thank you for posting. she asked a lot of her audience. it's so great to see her before she started to get sick. musicians have so much in their heads they desperately need to share.
She was among the most dedicated and talented people ever to take the stage.
I miss her.

Your writing touched me. She passed away four days before my Bar Mitzvah. and now I'm in cantorial school with her colleagues.

no way! I grew up in Willingboro and never knew Debbie had been there. Granted, it was a bit before my time.
Anyone on here go to Tehiyah Day School in El Cerrito, CA in the 90s and remeber singing Debbie literally every other day😅😅
I'm literally laughing and crying at the same time. I have no problem with that.
i love this song we sing it at my jewish summer camp
Amazing! Touches the soul and is so moving! Especially in the times we are living!
The most amazing & inspirational song leader..🎹🎤🎧
may we ALL live in peace.
Agreed
She had a Catskill comedian's command of the stage, a graceful dynamic talent.
