I used this SuperDeck semi-solid product (White Birch) on my 250' x 6ft high new wood privacy fence (3000 sqft Staining surface). My local Sherwin-Williams store recommended 3 x 5 -gallon pails based on the product estimate and I ended up using twice as much - 6 x 5-gallon pails ($1800 just for stain). I used the airless sprayer and completed the job in total of 15 hours. I know its not easy but airless sprayer does a fantastic job to deliver the material on the surface quickly.
I have a 20 year old deck in good shape. Would the solid stain look like "paint" and perhaps give a cheap appearance? Someone told me it would almost look like trex but I find that hard to believe.
Almost any type of coating you apply on a deck can potentially flake, crack and peel. In my experience, it’s more apparent when you use a solid color stain since that looks, acts and feels more like a paint. Oil tends to be more susceptible since they are not porous and don’t “breathe” like latex products. Also be aware that “oil” products that you mostly see on store shelves today, are nothing like the “oil” deck products that you would buy 10 years ago. Most of the “oil” products you see today are really water based…. Read the can to see if the oil your buying is really oil. Avoid any cracking, peeling and flaking mostly by making sure you have prepped your surface properly, let it dry out properly and finally apply any coating in the proper weather and conditions. If you do this, you won’t have any peeling, cracking or flaking.
Good explanation, straight to the point without beating around the bush like most videos do today. Thank you!

one or two coats?
Is it a water or oil based product? How’s it holding up after a year? Thanks!
So do you have to use a sealer on a deck if I stain it

painter here.. yes, solid stain has the appearance of paint. If you want to -see the grain a bit, go with a semi solid or semi transparent stain.
Thank you! This helped!
Does the semi transparent stain and sealers flake and Crack or just the solids and I'm talking about oil base stains

Why the music????
Why not?! 😉
@@EverydayWorkbench I agree, no music please, especially on speaking parts, it's very distracting and way to loud. Better no music at all.
