I used to work for Tesco for 17 years between 2003-2019 before my redundancy and this is accurate - living in the U.K. 23 years, I used to go home on the overnight coach and ferry to Ireland via Holyhead and once, many years ago, when our coach broke down on arrival from Manchester, when that store had 24 hour opening, we stopped at Bangor Extra until a replacement coach could be found to get us to the ferry for Dublin on time - while we were waiting there, the North Wales Police even arrived to check our passports and do the usual luggage and border checks so that when our replacement coach arrived, we could just drive straight onto the ferry at Holyhead without any delays - happy times 🇮🇪☘️🇬🇧🏴❤️
Of course they also own One Stop which tend to be located in poorer neighbourhoods where they can inflate their prices on branded products (no Tesco Value) just as they do in the Express stores. You pay for "convenience" or inability to drive to their supermarket or Extra stores.
This was really quite interesting. I’m in the US, I’ve never been to Tesco but this made me think about my shopping preferences and why I shops where I do.
I suspect that even Tesco, even here in the U.K., is struggling to compete with Lidl and Aldi, both of which have outlets in my home village in Rural Ireland, despite the fact that they have outlets less than 12 miles from my home village - and when Amazon totally takes over supermarket retailing here in the U.K., all of the U.K. supermarkets will be taken over by Amazon, perhaps the only one left standing will be Costco
I WISH We had a TESCO in the 🇺🇸…..We do have ALDI and I ABSOLUTELY LOVE this Store…..What I get from this Store is EXCELLENT Quality…..The Prices are UNBELIEVABLE and People who have children the price of Snacks is so much cheaper than name brands…. The prices on Cheese 🧀 is better than ANY other Store including Walmart and better Quality….. Watching from 🇺🇸 Virginia 🌹
@@deefitzgerald2906 From my experience of the US you don't need Tesco - the amount of varied products you have and plethora of stores ... a shoppers' paradise ... is incomparable. For entertainment/educational purposes only.
9:19 Before I’d worked for Tesco here in the U.K., I’d also worked for Irish retailer Superquinn (which later became part of Musgrave, trading as former franchise company SuperValu, as they are today) - back then, the late Irish Senator Fergal Quinn placed great importance and emphasis on the customer experience and of customer service, with only limited use of loyalty schemes like Superclub and would frequently visit all of his Superquinn stores to check on this and after the first store in Dundalk, had expanded to the Greater Dublin area and eventually to Carlow, Kilkenny & Clonmel, even to Limerick just before the takeover - in a similar way, Tesco Ireland who took over the former Quinnsworth chain and who had links to Esso Ireland service stations had a similar approach
Will never forget my store opening in Essex Honey Monster Cut the Ribbon way bk in 1980s Now it's got 5 Shops 3 large and 2 small. Will always Love shopping in Tesco
He started off pushing a wheelbarrow around selling vegetables from it in Beeston Nottingham
