  • These are my family heirloom Lionel 2344 set. Touch up paint. How I color matched. New port hole windows. Not full restore. Merely wanted to clean up issues and get the used look it has earned in the past 60 years my family has owned them. In the video I call them the 2343 set. Made a mistake. Not reshooting for a simple slip up. Enjoy.

You do indeed have a steady hand. I have an A-B-A 2344 NYC. I must agree about the growl. Who needs electronic sound systems? I live right outside of New Haven, and my eye went right to the EP-5. Gorgeous engine.
Just found your channel today. I subscribed.

Nice job Dave! I used to see this Central equipment every day growing up in Toledo Ohio. I will be shopping one of these locos at the next local show in September. Keep enjoying your trains!

Agree with what your trying to accomplish. I have the same thought and when it’s going around the tracks as it should it looks just fine. Definitely not for sitting on a collector shelf. You said play with it and that was the original intention by Lionel. After all these were for kids to play with (grown up’s too). Mine are all 027 rather than O’s but the same applies. Thank you for sharing techniques.

Wise decision to keep it in the family. I own a NYC 2344 ABA. I absolutely love the growling sounds it makes.

Great job! I have a postwar Texas Special F3 that needs a touch up. I’m hesitant to do it because I think the red might be a hard match.

Nice work! - were those water-based paints or enamel?

How did you do the lettering?

Thinned out testors flat white paint, added a drop of olive drab to age. Very fine brush with a point and a steady hand. Thinned out paint looks similar to the old rubber stamp.
