    Replacement Door Lock for this model (if you broke it accidently!): bens-appliances.com/products/w11307244-whirlpool-washer-lid-lock-assembly?_pos=2&_sid=8c696cddb&_ss=r
    There are 3-4 other models of door locks, make sure you pick the right one, but the link is for this exact style (black lock, white top piece).

      Awww thanks, comments like this make my day! I made this video because I broke one trying to get it off and didn't realize how it worked. Older-styles just had a screw that you removed and it came off, so this was a HUGE difference and they still make them this way, despite the video being 4yrs old.

      This sounds like the problem I currently have. I can't get the lid to unlock. It is stuck in locked mode and whether it is plugged in or not the lid won't open. I was hoping there was something in this video that would mention how to get the lock to let go. There's no line to pull as it is a top loader. What did you do?

      And there's no need to go with original manufacturer parts. An aftermarket switch for $15 will work just as well.

      @shark70007000 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@andyb9378 you never know. I replaced the solenoid assembly for the water input on mother in laws and it went out already. Then, because it was on and water was not flowing to keep the system cool, it burned up the main board. It could have burned the house down. Maybe I should have ordered OE?
      That's why I found this video now. Someone put this machine on the sidewalk for free. Only because the lid switch went out. Getting that thing off the lid was making me scratch my head. Now I also know how to put it back together properly, so it doesn't stay locked.
      But, I'm not saying you are wrong 100%. Usually cheap aftermarket parts work fine.

    Been using my washer for 3 Months since I found this video. I noticed that sometimes the latch does not unlock at the end of the cycle. Since fixing my own for $95 part, I have found 2 free washers with the same issue. The owners told me their washer would not unlock without pulling on the lid even when done. This breaks the washer lid lock. I suspect somewhere in the board there is a flaw that does not unlock the lid when done. Possibly a safety sensor not recognizing drum has stopped. btw thanks to this video I will never have to pay for a new washer again. I will just pick up other peoples broken Maytag Bravos.

      I don't think that would cause it to short and explode. Its possible, but very unlikely. Pressing on the switch would lock it properly in place, not cause the wires to short. Can you test the lid lock without removing it?

    Help! This step by step was super helpful, but something’s still wrong. My lid was stuck on lock so I ordered a new mechanism and replaced it, and it didn’t come locked so I was able to open and close the lid without forcing it. I realized the lid won’t lock now. I start the washer and it stops on wash and starts to blink green. I tried to calibrate and run diagnostics, but the lid won’t lock now in order to run them 😩 any advice?

      Please watch my videos on recalibration/resets. That is likely the solution.

      Thanks for replying! I did all three options you gave, still when I start to run diagnostics the lid doesn’t lock, it just blinks some of the lights and stops after a few seconds

    Which wires would you splice together to bypass the switch to get the load done on the plug you pulled from panel?

    Hi Ben! I washed your video multiple times to get the confidence to fix the issue myself. Well I ordered the part, replaced it step by step as you explained. And I can get t he washer to lock or to start washing. It just start, fill a bit if water then stop. And stay there for a while, the out of nowhere will start making a sound like if the motor is running, but is not spinning or agitating. I have done that reset step multiple time now, I unplug the washer and try to reset the lid lock as you suggested, only one time the machine start agitating then I let the door closed and the machine stop. Please help. 🙏🙂Thank you!!

      Wow! I appreciate your responding so quickly 🙏👏 Yes. I did and nothing happened. I did a recalibration and the door did lock when I did the steps for that. After that is back to not working. 😕 🙃

      Glad I could help! I destroyed one of these locks early on trying to figure it out, so this was one of the first fix-it videos I wanted to do, because there isn't a ton of documentation on how to replace the lid lock on the newer units

    Hi Ben,...
    So at 2:55 in the vid you got the blue, red, & white on the plug.
    So which two do you use a jumper\bypass on so the machine thinks its a loop to the lid (closed lid) but really stops at that point?
    I don't have kids so I don't need the feature.

    • @bensappliancesandjunk
      @bensappliancesandjunk  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      A jumper WILL NOT WORK on this style washer. The control board will pulse a close/open command to the locking feature, and if it does not pass that test (as showing always closed), it simply will throw out an error code, and not work.
      I did make another video on how to do a quasi-bypass on these style units though: th-cam.com/video/Rl7CtBqB9U8/w-d-xo.html

    Is there a way to bypass this lid lock and still use the washer? My husband was trying to figure this out but now our washer wont go past the "wash" part of the cycle.

    Can I double sticky tape that lock in the cabinet with the lid latch piece inserted into it? Then be able to open the lid at any time. You can still hit the start/stop button and it will stop if you need to open it while it is running.

    Ben, after replacing the lid lock my unit will not start a load and I can't return it to diagnostic mode. followed the steps and there are no pinched wires, etc. have you seen this before?
