I used to think that I needed heaps of water and an agitator to wash properly but since owning a front loader I won't go back to a top loader. My clothes are cleaner and spun faster. I no longer use sprays to pretreat stains now and the detergent lasts longer. Front loader convert right here.
@@bradleybyrnes9907 I grew up with top loaders, but switched to a Kenmore/Frigidaire Front Loader in 2003 (still using the same one). Over time you could tell the front loader was a bit easier on clothes, but I think you have to own one to tell the difference. Definitely uses less detergent. I also have access to a Speed Queen Top Loader (classic from 2017) at my parents house, and I like to use it for towels. My front loader can rinse soap out of most things, but towels always seem to be more challenging getting the soap out even when using a small amount of detergent. Interestingly, if the towels are really dirty, the front loader gets them cleaner in one cycle versus the top loader needing more cycles..though I haven't tried doing a "soak" first, that's probably what they needed.
I prefer Front Load Washers. Not only because it cleans better, because it looks better. But I hate the price. But I also like Top Loaders because of the low price, and you have the option to add more clothes during mid-cycle.
When we got to an appliance center and were about to buy a front load washing machine, the sales agent mentioned that it requires a circuit breaker, telling us that a front load washing machine has a higher need for electricity, which sounds like hassle and inconvenient to us, which is why we decided to go for a top load washing machine. A top-load washing machine does not need a dedicated circuit breaker, and that got me.
I have had all three types, me personally believe the reason you wash clothes is to “wash them!” The top loaders with agitation clean clothes effectively. These new machines save electricity may be more quiet but DO NOT clean as well.
I've used both and front load cleans much better, my clothes are completely clean and smelling fresh and it uses less water, where else when I use top load only 85% of the odours are gone and I get itch if I wear clothes that are washed from top load, means it doesn't clean that well. From what I noticed top load uses water and spinning around to clean the clothes, where else front load uses gravity and spins around the clothes and your clothes are grinded against each other during the spinning of the wash and this leads to much better agitations and cleans clothes much better. So based on which cleans much better, definitely front load to me.
Probably because most of today's top loaders lack an adequate agitator. In our mothers' and grandmothers' day, those top load washers had strong metal components and sturdy agitators that did the job. Modern machines are made with flimsy materials that function poorly and break down. Past top loaders could always handle whatever dirty laundry we would throw in and they'd always come out clean and fresh. Try laundering heavily soiled clothing in a front loader. I guarantee you'll be left with dirty clothes insufficiently washed.
I know we went from a top load to a front load, the Front load cleaned our clothes much better and spun more water out of the clothes making less drying time saving on electricity. We have had our front load for about 8 years now and I replaced the extraction pump last year which was a pretty easy job, it took me all of a half hour once I located it. We were lucky enough to find a brand new previous year old model for half off. Our Previous washer was a 23 year old Maytag given to us by a friend's parents, but it used 65 gallons of water for a complete wash cycle and we are on a Well so we switched to conserve water. We were expecting to pay at least 1200 but fell on a deal for 550 and couldn't pass it up and now we can also wash king size comforters in it instead of bringing them to the laundry mat. What he didn't mention is that what you can fit in a top load washer doubles or sometimes triples with a front load.
What brand did you buy? Also, even if you have a huge barrel, they are all designed to only give you so much water...too low water level so clothes never get clean! They still smell. It’s awful! Thank you!😊
I guess you forgot to mention that front loaders use half of detergent than top loaders because the small amount of water where the detergent is dissolved. Great video, very interesting and well explained.
@@BoulevardHome Yes and they're also much less effective at washing & cleaning clothes. The tried and true, older style non - he top loader machines get the best results.
Leaving clothes dirty and soapy because less water used is not a selling point. I have to always pay for a whole new wash with water only to get the dirt and the soap off it's horrible. Some use a lot of water but I avoid he machines like the plague
Good summary. I’ve had all three types: agitator, front loader, top load impeller. Pros and cons to each type. Agitator - low capacity, hard on clothes, inefficient. Front loader - great, except for the mold and mildew (no matter how much you clean and dry it), and the gasket which eventually wears out from cleaning the dog fur. Impeller - despite urban myth, it really does clean well, but gets unbalanced easily, produces a lot of lint, and doesn’t wring out the rinse water too well. To be honest, I’d return to a front loader in a heartbeat if I could get one with an easy-to-reach lint filter. UPDATE: since some people have gotten their panties in a bunch over my original comments……I sold the top load impeller model (it was only a year old), and bought an LG front loader. Love it. As for mold/mildew, of course I leave the door open (why would anyone think I didn’t??), and also remove the whole detergent/bleach sliding apparatus after the final load (very easy to remove and reinstall). I think I have all bases covered now, unless another commenter sees room for improvement. My only gripe is that my son and daughter in law don’t have a clue how to use this simple machine.
the mold and mildrew can be totally removed with a washer machine cleaner like the active tabs that one in a tub wash/regular hot wash will let your front load washer as brand new. the mold is avoided mostly if when the last wash of the day you take a small towel and dry the door gasket the outside and the folded inside. tiny maintanance task nothing to worry about. plus many new brands like LG add a new type of door gasket that prevents mold grow even that still is recommended to dry it once the washer is done for the day/week etc.
Top loaders with agitator have reasonable capacity if you buy one for large loads. Hated HATED -- my front loader. Never got my wash clean, was less than fresh smelling, and mildew.... Which nobody told me about. And the drain hose was always getting plugged. Granted, the front loaders from Europe are stellar (or so I'm told). Commercial ones are great, but who can afford an $8,000 front loader.... Things have improved, but not enough. Front loaders are almost always digital, and that has its own set of problems. I'll stick with my top loader.
Both have pros and cons. Front load is best on small space and looks nice but top load is more reliable on cleaning. And top load requires less maintenance on my experience as a repairman
Front loads aren’t better because they “look nice”. That has to be one of the lamest reasons one would purchase a front loader. In reality, they are better because they offer a much more solid cleaning performance while using way less resources.
I think you should consider in a future (maybe part 2 vid) is to add a "duration" and "maintenance/repairs" factor. I think the general perception is that top load washers last longer and stand the test of time.
Yes it is if I had a big home I’d want both lol stackable in a big bathroom and top load In the basement would be awsome if it breaks well I tryed let’s just get a old skool stackable 😀 I got the last top load Maytag with no fancy computer who uses steam not me lol 😂
Out of the 5 points, I would add reliability and put that as the #1 priority. What use is the feature of using less water and power if the front loader breaks down a lot and the parts cost you a bundle to repair it?
I have only ever bought used top loaders. I have only ever bought three my whole life. And sold them in working condition. The dryers on the other hand. Repair every few years. Belt and thermostat. Annoying but very doable.
Speed queen top load washers are supposed to be ranked very well because they are well-made. They aren’t the most energy efficient but they do what the old school washers did ...Use more water and clean well. Apparently now they’re made where the way the agitator moves with the drum as it shifts which supposedly helps not being so rough on clothes.
Unfortunately, I've heard that there quality of parts have gone down, such as certain important parts are now made out of plastic. They're probably still better than most of the crap that's out there nowadays.
Hey Dan, If you were to do it all over again would you have still went with the speed queen or a different one? (Need a washer for my family bad, prefer front washer)
@@bobby1970 Yep. When I want to find out the best appliances, I read Consumer Reports. The year I bought my Huebsch (aka Speed Queen) they were rated highest out of all machines.
Just bought a LG front load washer n dryer with steam for grandma, been years since her 70's top load GE gave out. Amazes her how stylish and quiet they are, only complaint is there isn't enough space for pedestals
GE Profile top loader. 15 years old and still going strong. No mold smell just keep the door open when not washing. Gets cloths clean. No rattling noise. High spin during drying cycle is quiet. I am always surprised when removing the wash how much the cloths are twisted, that is good. They are almost dry coming out of the washer. If it ever breaks, will get another top load.
@@AK4974U yup, top load too rough and abrassive during the spinning cycle, it has torn a few of my shorts too at the crotch area, no such issues with my front load.
I had tried both washing machines. I like top load much better. Since on top load, you can add more clothes if you forget something even if the wash is already starting. Simply pause and open the lid and throw that extra cloth. You can't do that with front load washing machine because once the wash starts, it locks the door; preventing any unintentional opening. I'm using LG 12kg top load washing machine. Cleans very well even with blankets, duvets and comforters. You can even recycle the detergent if you want. Just wash the whites first(wash only and no rinse and spin), then take it out, load the colored ones in a full washing cyle. Afterwards, you can rinse and spin the whites you had just removed earlier. Detergents are pretty strong and its a waste to just use it once (but dont use it more than twice though).
Hi San! Being able to add additional clothing to a wash that is already started is a great benefit of using a top load washer. We are so glad to hear you love your LG washer! Thank you for sharing your experience with us. Please let us know if there are any other videos you'd like to see from us. Have a great day!
@@sanghuloom6943 here’s a video of the reload function. Not all Bosch machines have it so you’ll need to look for “reload” in the specs. See this: th-cam.com/video/Yw1WP9d0NnA/w-d-xo.html
Boulevard, don't forget that electricity efficiency of a washer is trivial compared to the electricity used by the dryer evaporating water out of the clothes. The average spin speed of modern front load machines seems to be around 1200 to 1300 RPM, compared to about 650-750 on top loaders. The electricity saved not having to dry the slowly spun, still-wet clothes adds up significantly - potentially several thousand dollars over the life of the machine in a busy household if my napkin math is correct!
Our washer and dryer are located in a closet in a dining room area. Top loaders are loud and when on tile, too loud! We just ordered two front loaders but, we gotta get the pedestals for the dryer for sure, it’s shorter.
Hi Maureen! We are so glad you enjoyed our video and found it helpful. Thanks for watching! Let us know if there is ever anything else we can help you with.
Really thinking about getting a front loader to save on space, as its very limited. Just hate the idea of not being able to open my washer machine once it starts filling with water.
Samsung make an "Add Wash" which has a small trap door in the top of the door for that, don't know if you can get those models, but I've always thought it was a bit of a pointless gimmick. I used to have a machine that you could open the door to fling stuff in you'd forgot, until the water went above the the lip of the door seal, the gentle and medium action wash programmes only filled that high so you could open it anytime. The door locking mechanism was mechanical with the door release button on the control panel and used a cable to pop the door open, it had cable linkages to the pressure sensor and a "pecker" that pressed onto the drum pulley, so it wouldn't open while the water level was too high or the drum was still turning even if there was a power cut. The only way to do that in my current machine is to turn the power off and wait two minutes for the bimetal door catch to cool down and release.
I own both, a top load Speed Queen pair and a front load Speed Queen pair. Therefore I can truly do side by side comparisons and both are excellent machines that I highly recommend, however I prefer the top load overall.
@@anoopm2022 Deep water wash and faster cycles are why I prefer the top load, however both clean very very well. With current drought in the west I’m using the front loader for most washes at present.
@@melissa4455 No I don’t find the top loader rough on clothes. It has faster cycles than the front is why I like it best and some things I want a deep water wash.
@@terrorblossom4829 yea but as she stated the faster spin means less time in the dryer which in turn means less energy consumption and saves people money smart one ☝️ some people do care about that.
I'm from the UK and it seems a bit alien that people would use a top-loader. My Grandma used to have a twin tub, about 35-40 years ago, but it was considered old fashioned even then. I think one of the main reasons is we tend to have our washers in the kitchen and they fit under the counter.
Europeans just dont like water... everything in Europe uses far less water than everything in America... your toilets are almost bone dry, your washing machines practically air dry things... Americans like WATER... we hear "plunk" in our toilets, instead of European inspection shelves... our washing machines actually USE WATER TO WASH... I lived in Europe for many years... its amazing how much aversion Europeans have for water... I dunno, maybe it dates back to the Middle Ages when nobody in Europe bathed (I think Germans still don't). You can keep your no-water appliances... I'm an American, I like water, i'm going to use a Top Load washer and hear all my clothes go splishity-splash.
@@wolfshanze5980 I think it has more to do with efficiency, our energy tends to be more expensive so our products are designed to reflect that, plus we tend to have less space in our houses. Our toilets work differently. American toilets have more of a syphoning system where the pipe at the back of the toilet is narrow and it requires a lot of water to get the system working, which is why American toilets get blocked a lot more. European toilets tend to have pipes around double the diameter (less blocking) and use the weight of the flushed water to empty the toilet rather than syphoning. Because of the wash down system of European toilets we also tend to have split flush toilets, where you if you just have a wee you can do a small flush which saves a lot of water. I think people may have bathed about once a week in the middle ages and bath houses were common in many areas, pioneers (and people in the Victorian era) bathed about the same or maybe once every two weeks.
Understandable. However, it would be alien to most Americans to have a washing machine in the kitchen, instead of right next to the dryer, in the laundry room, basement, or garage. Most American kitchens are setup for just a dishwasher, and there is nowhere to put a washing machine and dryer in the kitchen.
@@wolfshanze5980 Everything in Europe is more efficient. Not just washing machines. Americans like big, bulky and noisy things. They lost their taste buds a long time ago. Europeans are, .... how can I put this, more delicate, and smart? Your cars, washing machines, juice packs, hamburgers, houses - you name it. They are bigger. But if you want quality, then you need to import the product from Europe. You know I'm right, check your trade deficit lol
I've used front loader and top loader washer. but before I start comparing which is better I just want to share a little side note. first of all I own see through glass washer and I only did this one time. in my top loader I watch how my clothes being wash and waiting patiently I know it is stupid but that's the only way I can determine weather my clothes is actually getting wash properly. ill be honest I didn't like how is being wash due to the fact that is agitator function. plus I can see through the glass how dark is the water and the soap is not absorbing well and agitator it doesn't move the clothes much it is stay in one place that's is a bummer for top loader. in my front loader I witnessed that my clothes is actually moving around and it is satisfying to watch due to the fact that is a tumble motion and that is what I need. my top loader broke down after 4 years use. now my front loader still remain. next time around I will buying a front loader with a little bigger size. when it comes to comparing between these two regards on how long it last, electric saver, water saver, who's faster. I really don't look at that or think of it. I'm more concern about how my clothes is being wash because I don't want to wear dirty clothes.
I liked all your answers. I have a front motor myself. It’s going out after almost 19 years. It’s kind of getting down to a point where I gotta make a decision. Do I want a front loader again or top loader just have to decide.
Front loads tend to mold and stink because the water doesn’t drain out of machine entirely. Top loads are generally easier to repair. Stick to the knobs and dials, they don’t have motherboards which will fail and have huge replacement costs.
They do have motherboards. All new washing machines use them. You are talking about the old washers from the 90s. They are not made like that anymore with mechanical switches.
@@ryanscott1989 Yes, they ARE still made with mechanical switches. AJ Madison is selling Speed Queen model TC5003WN top load washer with mechanical switches for $1,329. They also have other models as well.
We went with front loader and love it. We leave the door open just a little and have never had the moldy smell in years. But the sales person told us the top loaders recycle the same water that you wash with and rinse with going through a filter and not using new water to rinse with. He equated it to taking a bath in the tub where you wash yourself and rinse off with the same dirty water. The front loader was on sale and cheaper than the top loader we were considering so he had no reason to lie about it.
I haven't heard of any top loader that does this. They all have to drain the water after washing and fill again to rinse, otherwise they wouldn't be able to get the detergent out of the clothing. Some even have an option for a second drain and rinse. Front loaders do the same thing, and typically have a couple of additional drain and rinses because they're using less water.
@@BoulevardHome Just no, if you really thought so you wouldn't have made this video, or at least it would've been just 10 seconds long with you stating "Front loaders are best, because top loaders leave your clothes dirty". Stop with the botted or extremely lazy comments, it's annoying.
I've had both kinds of washer, and the front loader is far superior. I had some very expensive white sheets that had become grayish in color, and no matter now I washed them in my top loader, they stayed gray, even with bleach and pre-soaking. When I got my front loader, after one wash with the temp going up to 170 degrees, they came out super white like they were new. And my Miele front loader has now been working perfectly for almost 30 years.
I washed handkerchiefs in a front load washer and they come out still folded. There is no way that is clean through and through. The house I bought came with a front load but I will be switching it for a top load soon
Use a wash ball, and stop throwing in your laundry folded. Tie a knot on a pair of pants and they'll also come out with a knot. If it happened in a front loader, it'll happen in a top loader as well. Both are just a spinning barrel.
My LG Front Loader requires a drain pump after 10 yrs. Cost to replace parts & labor over $400. Many TH-cams on how to replace, but basically you have to strip the down to get to the pump. So my point is Newer Front Loaders probably cost more to repair.
Great point. That may be the case. It all depends on the part. Like most new things with more features and more complicated control panels if something breaks it many times takes a trained technician to fix it. Similar to how new cars are when compared to cars made 20 years ago.
It really depends! Hopefully this video gives you the info you need to decide which works best for you, because they each have their strengths and weaknesses!
I’ve had several of both, and I’m most definitely a front load fan... They take a little basic, regular maintenance, to keep nice, but it’s well worth it...
@@BoulevardHome Yup! At 5 ft tall, the best benefit to me, is ease of use... I do wish I could fill the tub, and control a soak tho... for that, I’ve had to use a collapsible laundry basin. You are definitely right there’s pros and cons to both, and each persons specific needs has a lot to do with what style machine is best for them...
My machine is front loading, and the maintenance I do on mine is simple. After I'm done washing clothes each time, I always wipe everything dry, then I'll leave the washer's door wide open. I also run a fan directly aimed at the washer's opening, and this dries up any remaining moisture fairly quickly. I always leave the door open until the next time I use it again. I even put some silicone spray on the rubber seal. This keeps the seal nice and fresh. The seal seals the door to the frame opening better.
@@bobby1970 Yup, front loaders are air tight. Sealing it shut while wet and not in use, is just asking for mold…. I don’t use a fan, but I also wipe it dry with a microfiber cloth, and leave the door open. 🤗 Never had a stinky, dirty, or moldy front loader! I also avoid fabric softener and use a pinch of scent beads instead… fabric softener cakes up and creates more susceptibility to mold growth.
@@erikal5218 There really should be no reason to wipe it down unless you live in an otherwise extremely humid house/environment, not that there's anything wrong with it :) The fan guy though... Just a tad overkill ;)
Thanks for sharing this video. I was curious about the comparison between a top loading and side loading washing machine. And this video shows clarity on all my questions. 🙂
This is a common complaint with front loaders. Some advice would be to leave the door cracked slightly to allow that water to evaporate and to clean your gasket regularly. There are some manufacturers today that are putting in things like anti-mildew chemicals or vents to make sure that gasket stays fresh.
What set should I get? Speed Queen? Whirlpool something? I've never had a front loader and am still confused which is better. I have family of 6, tons of laundry, pets, king comforters, hate people coming into my house to fix things, and I don't care about special buttons other than quick wash. What in the world set should I get right now in June 2o22? Please help! My old-school dryer just died.
I’m my experience front load washer cleans better. I can put dirty jeans in a top load with other clothes and the jeans will come out still dirty but if I put them in a front load washer with other clothes they then come out clean. Also to reduce getting mold in the slobber strip on a front load stop closing the door and leave it open to air dry. So make sure it’s not one of those front load washers with a light that stays on when the door is open.
Appreciate the info! Sadly, I will never trust LG washing machines again. Back in the day (2005-2006) we bought LG front loaders. Horrible experience! Always smelly, gross, dirt collecting machine, never clean smelling clothes, the maintenance was annoying, leaving the door open was always annoying and inconvenient. My mom and her husband bought the washer and dryer combo and so did my partner and I. Perhaps now in 2021 LG has fixed all of these issues, but because we were constantly changing out parts, cleaning, it, and dealing with the smell and gross smelling clothes, I can never buy an LG front loader again, as my experience was so atrocious. Hence, I am very surprised at these ratings you mentioned. We diligently did the cleaning maintenance and scheduled sanitizing and draining procedures and still nothing improved. Now, in 2021 we just got rid of it! That was after changing parts on it 3 times over the years, as well! We were renting from a family member who still had theirs and we could not get away from it or we would have long ago!
I have an lg frontloader that I bought new since 2007. Never had to repair anything on it. You always leave the door open on any front loader. I will only buy an lg again
Yea, I agree with the maintenance! We did everything right! 2 sets down...sucked! But, literally every brand has issues or it doesn't. All luck....get a good one or ya don't. Just like any appliances or equipment. Bad and good stories amongst all brands 🤪 sucks that nothing is 100% reliable every time...that's the game of life, I guess!
1:40 wth are you talking about? A top load you can LITERALLY just dump the clothes in. And as far as taking them out? Front loader washers you have to worry about your clean clothes falling into the floor as you take them out. In contrast, they'll just fall back down into the clean washing machine with a top loader if some items do fall from your grasp. Top load is 100% better for loading and unloading hands down, how could you even suggest the front is better or even close on that front? Smh...after speaking to my short girlfriend, something has been brought to my attention. Top loaders might be more difficult if you are short, just for the reason that it could be difficult to reach the bottom of them. This is something I had not thought of. Regardless, my logic still applies in many other situations. But if you can't reach the bottom then...well that just makes it completely unusable without a stool or something.
Not to be a necromancer, but on my top load washer will make so much noise and not properly spin if I just throw things in there, it’s best practice to even it out
I don't worry when things fall to the floor, its spotless. I don't know what y'all do to your floors but its gotta be disgusting if clean clothes touch it and instantly become dirty.
@@SunnySideUp360 It's simply good practice to consider them as dirty. I don't know what you do in your house, but it's the same concept as eating off of the floor. Disgusting.
For heavy soiled clothes, top load with agitator. For pre soak, too load. For huge blankets front load. For fresher clothes, top load. I like my front load but don’t love it. Clothes never smell as clean as my friends who use top loads with agitator. Front loads can handle big loads like blankets and such but IMO do not clean clothes as well.
Owned both but the front end loader has a tendency to leak at the door gasket which is a weak spot. I just purchased a top loader for that reason tired of the wet floor.
Front loads are clearly the best choice. The cost is higher but well worth it. Always leave washer door open when not in use. This allows proper ventilation and controls any mold or mildew build up. Easy.
Hello, can you address doing small loads for a front loader? With some models, you can buy a very small additional machine that sits underneath. What do you think of those? Thank you.
Regarding the additional machine that sits underneath a washer. The benefit of this is you can do multiple loads at the same time. If you just want to do small loads then you should just use your regular washer. Most of them have small load options and many times these small load options are much quicker wash times as well.
I just got the top loader Samsung Smart washer and dryer just because I didn’t want to pay extra for the pedestals and I’m so use to using a top washer my whole life and I heard the top loaders cleans your clothes more…
You seems to be just seller you did not said true things which on is actually better for all type of clothes. Without agitator one and with agitator one. I have to explore more. Because cost is less in top load and high on front. So have to think which one is better for cleaning clothes purpose... Better cleaning is what mean to me.
We old Geezers like the top load on a pedestal - easier to load and unload. I have noticed that my clothes last longer due to the way the TL cleans. To avoid mildew, I leave the washer door open after a load.
Front loaders don’t fill with that much water. Regardless they all lock the front door until the cycle is over. Even if you stop the wash it will drain before it unlocks.
Have two homes. One home has the high efficiency front loader and the other has old fans ion top loader. I give the win to the top loader. Times are shorter and no mold inside like the front loader. So much time to dry the front loader to prevent mold. Moreover you have to leave the front loader door open to air out to prevent mold. Mold is not good and is unhealthy. So the win goes to the top loader.
Mold does not typically build up on top load washers but many front load washer have been know you have that issue. If you have model watch this video to get ride of it. th-cam.com/video/_jRBzmmJunA/w-d-xo.html
I have that problem mold buildup because dirt built-up so I change to top load. Best to not have that problem and get one that's uses a good amount of water to really clean well the clothes. No does energy savers. I try a side loader and I change back to my old top loader washer. 👍Top loaders!
I don't know I see here in Israel that most of top loads machines get bad reviews , meanwhile front loads machines tend to get much better reviews and they surely won't cost more. that's y it seems to me fronts are better.

Thanks for sharing. Honestly, I don't like either one. I know that people swear up and down that front loaders wash well and that is false. I have white shirts that I use for work and when I use my front loader that I recently purchased the armpits still stink. The only real way to wash anything effectively is by hand. So for my white work shirts I throw them in a home depot bucket and wash away. They smell much better. I don't believe all that hogwash that clothes rub against each other and wash themselves. That is so not true. Yea, the rest of my stuff has to be washed by the washer because I don't have the time. My work shirts are expensive and I want them to last long so I do them by hand. And YES, my colors that are washed by the machine still have a smell. I am certain that if you were to take some of your clothes and wash them by hand they would come out smelling ten times better than washing then with your front loader. Yea, I just got mine last year. It's a Samsung and it's no better than the old front loader I had. Oh well...
Love my front load washer. I did do the hack for water level to make it add more water. It's really good now! Don't do it if your washer is still under warranty, is only good to adjust it manually if you have no warranty to begin with...
It sucks that you would need to hack your washing machine to make it work. The older top load, non HE washers are the only ones that actually clean clothing.
Well that didn't answer anything regarding the cleaning effectiveness... Obviously it depends on what you're putting in it, but how about some examples? Which is better with heavy soils(dirt, farm, sports)? Which is better with grease and oil(mechanic, machinery)? Which is better for suits and dresses(office, formal)?
True coz during wash spin cycle it uses gravity and this creates friction and agitation and clean the clothes very well vs top load which uses water and spin around to clean the clothes and it doesn't have gravity which produces far less agitation on the clothes which leads to not so clean clothes, at least from my experience.
I like how the one on the right looks like its from 1985. I came to this because my front load does not clean my clothes well, they just smell after being washed. I looked up why, cleaned it with clean cycle and all that. Even towels just don't come out smelling fresh, its a samsung never had issues with my whirl pool front loader. So im debating on going back to top load.
I have a whirlpool duet, i have drainage issues. im not a mechanic so im stuck with having to decide to buy a used top loader or buy a new one, i will never trust a front loader again. its the 2nd one iv had within three years! for a top loader i dont want the HE one tho i need agitation and clean clothes that wont stink, so im upset r nw as its perfect timing in my case w school start up in few days and my kids clothes are rotting now.
I find top load easier to load/unload. The front load, even with the pedestal, you have all the weight of the laundry on your back as you bend over. The top load, you can use one hand to brace yourself on the washer while using the other hand to pull the clothes out.
Front load is better for efficiency and electricity and has many wash options . front load washing machines spin much faster at 1600rmp but top-load normally spin at 1000rmp

@@ecstaticryan4369 I just did, I bought a second hand front load washer and it's the best. Thank you so much for your kind words.
I used to think that I needed heaps of water and an agitator to wash properly but since owning a front loader I won't go back to a top loader. My clothes are cleaner and spun faster. I no longer use sprays to pretreat stains now and the detergent lasts longer. Front loader convert right here.
Hopefully you reconsider getting a top load washer in the future

@@blacknight88 no, I won't go back to a top loader. Front loaders do a better job at cleaning while being gentle on everything.
How do you deal with the mold, or is it not a problem with the front load?
One must listen rather carefully to what he is saying as he brings up so many points! Very good presentation!
I prefer Front Load Washers. Not only because it cleans better, because it looks better. But I hate the price. But I also like Top Loaders because of the low price, and you have the option to add more clothes during mid-cycle.
Thanks for sharing! It's true, many front loaders look very modern and sleek! Thanks for watching:)
BLONEY!…what’s it like being ,BRAINWASHED ! !
Yes. Also mentioned in this video is about energy efficiency. Fronts uses more energy than tops, hence the need for special electricity setup
I’ve never heard of this and have had front loaders for years.
So based on which cleans much better, definitely front load to me.
true
It’s awful! Thank you!😊
What type of washer did you get?
@@shar7508 Good point. I wonder if a huge comforter even gets completely saturated enough to clean in a front load washer.
I guess you forgot to mention that front loaders use half of detergent than top loaders because the small amount of water where
the detergent is dissolved. Great video, very interesting and well explained.
Great point! Some of the HE top loaders also use much less detergent and water now as well.
@@BoulevardHome Yes and they're also much less effective at washing & cleaning clothes. The tried and true, older style non - he top loader machines get the best results.
Top loaders are more reliable. You forgot that
wrrr
Never had an issue with my front loaders mold and mildew. Just don't leave your washing in it wet. When finished take out and dry.
Except top loaders don’t last longer anymore
I have only ever bought used top loaders. I have only ever bought three my whole life. And sold them in working condition. The dryers on the other hand. Repair every few years. Belt and thermostat. Annoying but very doable.
@@krystleroy3068maytag is the best, our top loader just quit ... after 20 years of good use!

Top loaders sucks i went though a bunch of pairs of pants that would start tearing from the leg or crotch area then be unusable later on
@@AK4974U yup, top load too rough and abrassive during the spinning cycle, it has torn a few of my shorts too at the crotch area, no such issues with my front load.

This video is exactly what I need right now. So helpful!
Hi Maureen! We are so glad you enjoyed our video and found it helpful. Thanks for watching! Let us know if there is ever anything else we can help you with.
Maintenance costs? Which is more reliable and if they do break down how much do repairs cost?
Repair costs are similar if you are looking at new options. Reliability seems to be driven more by brand than type.
Really thinking about getting a front loader to save on space, as its very limited. Just hate the idea of not being able to open my washer machine once it starts filling with water.
I'm trying to decide which to buy... and I don't think I'd like that either. I never thought of that!
Then plan your washing to avoid opening the when water starts coming in
Samsung make an "Add Wash" which has a small trap door in the top of the door for that, don't know if you can get those models, but I've always thought it was a bit of a pointless gimmick.
Thank you for sharing! We agree, both machines are awesome! We are glad you have found which washing machine best suits you :)

Yes, and it is also foreign to you in the UK that you can have cold and hot water mix at a single faucet to provide the perfect temp warm water.
Front loader, because tumble is the only thing which allows the clothes to do wash perfectly.
My main reason for buying front load, is water usage. Top load uses twice as much water.
Why is that?
What the heck review is that amd makes zero sense. Brands matter, build quality matters.. junk is junk for top load or front load.
I liked all your answers. I have a front motor myself. It’s going out after almost 19 years. It’s kind of getting down to a point where I gotta make a decision. Do I want a front loader again or top loader just have to decide.

Front loaders are the best
Front loads tend to mold and stink because the water doesn’t drain out of machine entirely. Top loads are generally easier to repair. Stick to the knobs and dials, they don’t have motherboards which will fail and have huge replacement costs.

Thanks for sharing! Your salesperson knows their stuff. Thanks for watching:)
So, are you saying that the water in your front load machine doesn't recycle its water?
@@bobby1970 I was told it does not because the volume of water that it actually uses is so low compared to a top loader.

Similar to how new cars are when compared to cars made 20 years ago.
our top loader stopped working in 5 yrs... so i think top load is still cheaper

Yup!
@@bobby1970
Yup, front loaders are air tight. Sealing it shut while wet and not in use, is just asking for mold…. I don’t use a fan, but I also wipe it dry with a microfiber cloth, and leave the door open. 🤗
Never had a stinky, dirty, or moldy front loader!
I also avoid fabric softener and use a pinch of scent beads instead… fabric softener cakes up and creates more susceptibility to mold growth.

Hi Cris! We are so glad to hear you enjoyed our video! Thanks for watching!
I like front loader, but have bad experienced like black stain/mildew around the gasket, and doesn't drained dry which causes smell.
This is a common complaint with front loaders. Some advice would be to leave the door cracked slightly to allow that water to evaporate and to clean your gasket regularly. There are some manufacturers today that are putting in things like anti-mildew chemicals or vents to make sure that gasket stays fresh.

I can put dirty jeans in a top load with other clothes and the jeans will come out still dirty but if I put them in a front load washer with other clothes they then come out clean. Also to reduce getting mold in the slobber strip on a front load stop closing the door and leave it open to air dry. False put them in a old washer
Precisely same experience with top load, it doesn't clean very well and the clothes smells and looks dirty even after a wash.
Hello! We are so glad to hear you enjoyed our video. Thanks for watching!
Any front load can have mould and mildew that builds up at the gasket, have to dry them out, front load also need more maintenance than top load
I have an lg frontloader that I bought new since 2007. Never had to repair anything on it. You always leave the door open on any front loader. I will only buy an lg again
@@LALALA-tw8vt I have a 2007 lg front loader and never done any maintenance nor had any service calls
Which style generally speaking is more reliable? Thanks!
Neither. Just get one that can be fixed by you and cheaper parts. Thats the truth.
Disgusting.
you should ask how long will each top last "
Very well explained!!!
Easy.
Hi Phil! Thanks for that helpful tip:) Thanks for waching!
Lol I totally took tires video and made me think the opposite
Unless u have cats that want to pee in them discreetly.
@@Booliocious I mean... Does that really matter? It's gonna dry, just like the water, and it's gonna get cleaned next time you wash :)
Most of them have small load options and many times these small load options are much quicker wash times as well.
what brand is best for longer use?
Hello! There are so many brands that have incredible products! But we especially love Speed Queen.
Thank you! Super helpful information.
We old Geezers like the top load on a pedestal - easier to load and unload. I have noticed that my clothes last longer due to the way the TL cleans. To avoid mildew, I leave the washer door open after a load.
Top load on a pedestal? That seems counter-productive.
What if like my top loader machine doesn’t drain?what will happen if I open the door and it’s loaded with water?
Front loaders don’t fill with that much water. Regardless they all lock the front door until the cycle is over. Even if you stop the wash it will drain before it unlocks.
You mean front loader?
You get splashed in the face!
This is so helpful! Thank you so much!
You are so welcome! We are glad we could help :)
So can mold build up in any top load washer?
Mold does not typically build up on top load washers but many front load washer have been know you have that issue. If you have model watch this video to get ride of it. th-cam.com/video/_jRBzmmJunA/w-d-xo.html
Thank you. I have since reverted back to a top load washer.
@@samanthaalexander5492 what model looking to get a top loader this week can you help
I have that problem mold buildup because dirt built-up so I change to top load. Best to not have that problem and get one that's uses a good amount of water to really clean well the clothes. No does energy savers. I try a side loader and I change back to my old top loader washer. 👍Top loaders!
@@chapotero3051 that's so interesting! Thank you for sharing your experience with us. There are definitely pros to having a top-loader.
Very well explained. Thank you

Which type can last longer?
Hi Vincent! The longevity of a machine usually depends on the brand and model.
Neither, because all electronics today are made with planned obsolescense.
anyone finds that modern front load washers use very very very little water? until almost like it spins dry clothes with soap bubbles?
Front loaders clean better and are easier on clothes, well established
what about wife/mum load washer. They are the best
I don't know I see here in Israel that most of top loads machines get bad reviews , meanwhile front loads machines tend to get much better reviews and they surely won't cost more. that's y it seems to me fronts are better.
יש לי מקום רק למכונה עם פתח עליון ומתמודדת עם אותה בעיה..
loved the music...
Team Speed Queen by far the best !

Very helpful video!
Hi Rain! We are so glad to hear you enjoyed our video. Thank you for watching! Please let us know if there are any other videos you'd like to see from us. Have a great day!
How did you do the hack? I will love to try it also
Well that didn't answer anything regarding the cleaning effectiveness... Obviously it depends on what you're putting in it, but how about some examples?
Which is better with heavy soils(dirt, farm, sports)?
Which is better with grease and oil(mechanic, machinery)?
Which is better for suits and dresses(office, formal)?
If your cloths are ruetinely heavily soiled; top loaders are better.
Every test shows front load washers was better due to better agitation
True coz during wash spin cycle it uses gravity and this creates friction and agitation and clean the clothes very well vs top load which uses water and spin around to clean the clothes and it doesn't have gravity which produces far less agitation on the clothes which leads to not so clean clothes, at least from my experience.
Thanks mate
You're welcome! We are glad you enjoyed our video :)
Same here 😔. I've decided to buy the top load washer.
I have a whirlpool duet, i have drainage issues. im not a mechanic so im stuck with having to decide to buy a used top loader or buy a new one, i will never trust a front loader again. its the 2nd one iv had within three years! for a top loader i dont want the HE one tho i need agitation and clean clothes that wont stink, so im upset r nw as its perfect timing in my case w school start up in few days and my kids clothes are rotting now.
why was reliability not a factor to compair?
You world think the front load would be best with all that spinning?
I find top load easier to load/unload. The front load, even with the pedestal, you have all the weight of the laundry on your back as you bend over. The top load, you can use one hand to brace yourself on the washer while using the other hand to pull the clothes out.
Dont care too much about efficiency
just do the job good and wash
That's exactly my thinking.
Front loader cleans best, it's pretty obvious with the high price point. Tumbling the clothes is a lot better than spins
Front load is better for efficiency and electricity and has many wash options . front load washing machines spin much faster at 1600rmp but top-load normally spin at 1000rmp
Looks like you've done your research! We are glad you have found what type of washer you like best :)
High efficiency (HE) and energy star top load washer 😎
Top load with the agitator are the best washers. You need water to wash clothes. They wash quickly and require little to no maintenance
They also generally use more water, are harder on your clothes, and don't actually clean as well, so pick your poison.
@@waynecampbell9426 in my opinion I personally love both but I just have a soft spot for old top loaders
Side loads are like the laundry mat washing machines. And the new ge is a Beast you can add a full bottle of detergent.
Front loaders are available in the USA.
