Sooo unrealistic how they all meet up for drinks and fun after every betrayal. They actually suggested he ask his criminal parents for money to pay off the rapper they stole the beat from. They are not serious. The pool boy bit was silly too. When they told the story of what happened to him, I was like this can’t be the big reveal 🙃
I believe Fikeles' character arc should have been better. Despite the fact that she has been shot, she remains self-centered throughout the seasons. Her sister has always been selfless. I don't know, I think we definitely needed more character development.
I just finished season 4 last night and I'm glad I wasn't the only one disappointed. It got so "21 Reasons" out of no where lol. What happened to Damian was sad asf. The dude that did that to him deserved what he got 100%. He was a monster and literally didn't care if he killed Damian... Ruined that boy's life and Fiks is just horrible and self centered asf.
This season could have just handled the fallout of everything. Really explore the psychological and physical impact of everything these characters went through. But instead they did a weird plot. They only thing I liked was the new relationships (kinda) except why could Puleng and KB explore and find their ways back to each other? Or why could they explore the hate/love relationship they should have due to the issue with the parents and scandal? Fiks storyline could have been about swimming, and her journey with it. She’s been through so much that has impacted her being the best. If the storyline between her and asanda was more focused on a rivalry it could have been so good! Two boss botches (one with family pressure vs one with family issues) both duke-ing it out! Instead, Fiks is the same bitch and stays being the ultimate victim. Wade and Asanda was fun but they cared more about him getting some than exploring the bullying he received and dating outside of his social class which he hadn’t done until now. Really would have made him his own person and not just a dork who finally got laid. He’s like a superhero and I just want to see his home life and him with a top girl! KB spends every season focusing on his music. I get it!! Ngl, his music is getting better, but his family are traffickers??? And his ex is the one who brought them down?? Let’s explore his anger confusion and sadness. Let that be his story and let it accumulate into an album? It’s like they skip steps , show the artist then the music. Chris was literally a fuck up and continues to show no purpose or growth. What happened to season 2 Chris who wanted to find pride and showed the true leader he can be?? I always felt like Chris is the character to keep us grounded and they have him in this lane love triangle where this grown man (I said it!) is simping over this kid who he coerced into a relationship which caused him to cheat on his girl due to his terrible self-esteem. I hated Luka and find him weird and this season someone finally called his ass out for hanging out at a hs party using his cousin as an excuse who he didn’t even protect because- boom- sex tape. Like, let Chris explore his loneliness lack of self worth and love for Wendi. Wendi and Taharia can do no wrong for me. I like Tahira even more this season and I’m ok with Wendy taking a step back in a the supportive roles! The only true besties. Also, more girl talk, please! Wendy is too good for Chris (rn) and I wanted to see that convo. I missed Reese. I love a mean girl who doesn’t play victim like Fiks. And finally, my girl puleng is never not chilling. I wanted to see her find her joy again this season. Let’s really see what’s going on with her mind and how she’s been impacted by literally everything. Like she killed someone!! Talk about that! Nope we get her hooking up with Ivan who if rather have seen with Chris. Or Tahira (she deserves a hot hook up to boost her self esteem!). Puleng is a beautiful tortured soul and I only liked her in the first and last episodes when she was having fun, being a kid, and being loved. I wanted to see her loved by KB. I wanted to see her break down and stressed not because of anyone else. Why does she never get a break? Why is she always saving Fiks. She’s not her savior, she’s a person. Overall, they could have did so much, it was all there. But writing real characters is hard. Writing another crime story though? Easy and we get this.
I also find it strange how they handle Matla’s character. Not fully but it feels like they’re trying to maintain some redeeming qualities in him as if it say “yes he’s a (probably can’t say on TH-cam) but he doesn’t want his son to get caught up in this”. I just want the writers to realize that not every villain is deserving of that kind of complexity, especially those that deal with the *unwilling transport of people* It also felt that way with Fiks: as if they were going “if we traumatize her enough we can avoid her having to face genuine accountability for what she did to Fikile”
This entire storyline with the bully taking revenge should’ve been the main plot of the series while the kidnapping thing with fiks and her parents should’ve been a feature film to conclude it. It’s all over the place.
This season was such a downgrade tbh. The writing for this season was terrible, most of the characters are trash and a plot that’s so overdone and done terribly.
yes! ive been waiting to see reviews on this season and i agree with so many things you said with the way episode 1 started (before the anonymous stuff) i really hoped this season would be about the kids dealing with all the trauma of season 3, seeing how it affected their daily lives when they went back to more mundane activities I thought season 3 felt disjointed with the way that they had to keep cutting between pulang's human trafficking plot and the typical high school drama lol but I thought this season could use that more purposefully and play with the concept of having to return to normalcy after a traumatic experience and the dissonance that comes with being in fight or flight mode in mundane situations because that's pretty realistic. (for example i thought the scene where pulang beat up the girl who video taped her and ivan with the way she was having flashbacks to the kidnapping and just feeling like she was on Survival Mode showed this really well) i didn't mind if this season wouldn't have some intense plot but instead focused on tying up the loose ends (like point of grace for example) and having the kids focus on healing and then graduate to end it all nicely. i found myself enjoying the whole matrics test cheating subplot (it was giving season 1 B plot vibes and coming full circle, playing with that concept of returning to normalcy etc) more than any of the mess with poolboy... it was just so unrealistic and detached from anything else we've seen. i felt like i was watching riverdale or something during those scenes and it was especially disappointing since, while it was dramatised, the topics of human trafficking, corruption etc were so grounded and handled so well in the previous seasons ugh anyways i could probably say more but i've ranted enough again i loved the video thanks for being one of the few people on yt who actually review this show
Thank you for sharing your thoughts, I can feel your frustration and I completely agree! What a bizarre direction to go down considering what happened in season 3?! It’s very much giving filler season before we get to the good stuff… if there’s even going to be another season….. 🫠
Damian’s character hit me on a personal level. Hope to see him next season and they use his hacking capabilities to take down Point of Grace (trafficing syndicate). And Fiks and him make mends and they like friends again. Not close friends but they realize what happened was wrong she is trying to make up with it, but still struggle because they don’t yet understand that they were kids and she was stuck in a rock in the hard place to make a decision and so decide to remove her self from it all together.
I related to him on so many points. As someone who has experienced trauma, I understood how it made him so irritable and hostile that it made him hate himself and not only that but also how it made him hurt people. You can tell he's a sweet boy at heart and who he became was so at odds with who he really is at his core. After nearly being killed and surviving, it changed him irrevocably as his dad has all these medical bills do he feels survivor's guilt. The actor did a great job.
@@sseraphim2818 agreed the actor did a awesome job. Bro each time I played back “you know I just wanted to be your friend” my heart dropped. Believe or not the first time I saw it straight through I shed a tear for that guy cause I felt every bit of where he was coming from. I couldn’t help but me mad at Fiks in that scene ( cause she seemed rather insincere until he was about to blow his head off) right after she said “we did become friends” she said “ so just let me go, let me help u.” Once again all about u Fiks. Shame on u. Stop Agging him on show a little sympathy. What would have been cool is if that moment she admitted I wasn’t there for you but I promise I’ll be there for you now. And she helplessly hovers over and try to sit right next to him and leans her head on him. And they both cry for a minute. Then everything proceeds as normal except instead of him walking with both pulenge and Fiks out at gun point. Fiks comes up with the idea they walk out holding his hands so it doesn’t escalate into a mass shooting 🤷🏾♂️
Also ??? Lost me with the ending reference of season 3 when they set it up for the trafficking ring to continue without boss lady molabo and the scene with tahira and the other girl taking shots… that twist really got me and I can’t believe they didn’t follow up on it ?? And the new principal grootman shredding oath papers and seemingly involved in the ring ?? Thought we would see him somehow involved and that he infiltrated the school or something idk just absolutely no follow up on the cliffhangers that they set up so well in season 3. Disappointing aF. Completely took an opposite and stupid turn than expected. Think the ptsd was a good depth of a touch but they really could’ve touched on just ??? How traumatizing ?? Their experience was ??? That’s so traumatizing it was taken so lightly lmao
Will we have a new season? Netflix barely renews the African shows and hasn't done much publicity for this new season. Back to renew… I thought that Lisabeth would continue with her work inside the prison and the news that she ended up in the hospital would be an attempt to escape. Also believed in Matla’s repentance and thought he would join fikile's father to denounce the point of grace and help the children. In the last season, a Lisabeth employee joins some students, I believed that he would try to kidnap them this season and there would be a wave of disappearances at school. In this sense, Sam could talk in more depth about what he experienced in captivity, which would help in rescuing the kidnapped students. It could also unfold the story of the corrupt police officer, who would be behind all this. I liked the relationship between wade and asanda, what was put into fikile and sam's relationship, Wendy and Chris (she leaves again, so it wouldn't make sense for the two of them to stay together anyway), Puleng and KB remained open
I feel like the exchange student was an unnecessary addition. We already have enough characters. They should have just built a plot for the court sessions and after math
I just finished this show I honestly forgot season 4 came out and they could’ve kept this season it was a complete waste of time this season was nothing but a detached lukewarm watered down version of the show that did nothing to progress the story the show had been given us for the last 3 seasons. This season should’ve focused on the traumas of season three and how it was effecting all of them especially in their school performance, everyday life and their mental and if anything explore more of the enterprise the mother was involved in if they needed more drama.
