The Boys: Season 4 - The Death of Media Literacy & The Rise of Review Bombing | REVIEW/RANT
I am looking forward to see the Wild Robot. It sounds amazing. But i absolutely love Flow to the degree that i think it is one of my favorite all time movies in general. And i think it has this additional value of being an indie animation that managed to compete with the mainstream animations while having unique vision that has by default an uphill battle to climb to even be considered. In that way it is groundbreaking as well and might affect the future of animation industry. (And they did that while having "tiny budget" of 3.6 million, while wild robot had near ~80 mil, inside out 2 ~200 mil). So i hope Flow will win the Oscar. That being said art is subjective and we all get affected by different things❤
In fact, the first film, which after "The Lion King" appeals to me in such a humane and unique way. Without people, without words! With content and music! Thanks to Flow! Thank you Latvia. Charming cinema world!
You loook sooo good. the outfit the makeup gorgeous!
Thank you! 🥰🥹
Personally, I didn't really like some of the characters' behavior, the film doesn't explain their intelligence and the reasons for some of their antics very well. Why Capibara/Bird knows how to reel the boat, Fish knows what cat is and that it needs to be out of the water. Why animals know something that only humans could and then behave like silly animals int he next scene. It was close to "Life with Pi" where (spoiler) in the end it turned out that all the animals in the boat were actually people. It was also unclear what happened to the bird (we were so sympathetic to it till the end and it's just poofed out of existence), and I didn't really like what happened to the giant fish. It's kind of cute and sad pretentious film which would be better if at least fish got to the see (literally nothing would change for bad).
besides all you've said, in FLOW the water wasn't wet enoug, the sun was not warm and the cat didn't tell you his true story in perfect English. That's of course a big mess. What to do? Enjoy SnowWhite!
The fact that you did not understand something does not mean that others did not understand it!!! Everyone has their own fantasy, mind and imagination!
The film is made from the point of view of those animals. They didn`t know all the story either. They were just behaving like animals behave in the situation ... Except some additions to make the story more for humans :) Have you ever had a cat or a dog?
Added this one to my watch list!
Are we talking about the same show? Because personally I think the writing, acting and storyline were phenomenal. But you're right to each their own. Just some advice though, maybe don't watch something expecting to relate to every single aspect of this fictional individual's life (i.e 'This Should Have Been Perfect For Me). Yes, representation is very important and matters, but to tear down another Black woman's work just because you found it "boring" or it didn't speak to you directly. Idk it's not really giving profound criticism it kind of just sounds like you're a hater. I hope you use the same critical lens for your superhero movie reviews as you do for this show...
your shirt and your eyeshadow <3 <3 <3 great review! I loved Kaos and I'm so mad we dont get another season.
I watched the trailer and Im intrigued: it looks gorgeous!
It is stunning! 🥰
@@JeannesMovieChats yes, exactly.
This entire aeason feels like badly written fanfiction from a twelve year old that didnt even watch the show. Dont get me wrong, fanfic is awesome and can be well written, this just feels like the bad shit youd find on wattpad innthe earky days
Thank you! I found the first few episodes hard to get through, though ultimately I really enjoyed the series and binge watched it again. I'm not sure why my first impression was so bad, but I don't think it had anything to do with the show. I am familiar with many of the Greek myths and gods. I quite enjoyed the reimagining of the traditional stories so speak to today's issues.
The Wild Robot and Flow were hands down my favorite movies of 2024. Wish they could both share the awards 🏆
This "film" has so many issues, but i think mostly people who actually speak Spanish can spot them, the director is so smug and arrogant he said he didn't need to search about the topic because he already knew what he needed (which he didn't), they said there wasnt talented people in Mexico to be on it, the singing and their accents are terrible, and they think this is such a work of art they cared about nothing the people from the place they "portrayed" had to say, calling the people who criticized the movie ignorant and mean spirited. The fact that they make Emilia a Saint at the end is an insult considering who she was and what she did, minimizing the real supposed issue the film wanted to portray. Plus the entitled french compared himself to Shakespeare wtf
Everyone but Denis Villeneuve and JaMes Cameron a**holes
Flows a MASTAPIECEEEE!!!!
Here after one of its star said some nonsense yup this film is dead so stupid of that person
Here after I re-downloaded twitter (for grammys content) and saw the nonsense that she's been saying...... WHAT ON EARTH???? Oh that movie is COOKED! Even Zoe ain't getting that Oscar now surely?!
I saw this movie. If you "really liked it"...oh my days.
Omg Jeanne (and anybody reading this)! A Mexican trans woman decided to answer to Emilia Perez by shooting her own (short) movie about France with zero French cast and crew. The idea was so popular, it got crowdfunded and it's now available on YT. The name is "Johanne Sacreblu, el musical"! 😂😂😂
The whole Emilia Perez saga is truly a car crash - I've now seen the comments and tweets that Karla made and.... major YIKES, this movie is COOKED!
I was so confused by your ‘not a good year for movies’ take until you started speaking 😭😭😭😭 that explains it, good day
Emilia Pérez is incredible, it's art, isn't? I don't understand why all these Mexicans and Latin Americans are complaining so much... It's just a movie, it's art, now just because they didn't like a French director's fantasy vision of a problem that is real and very sad for them, they also want to force the world to dislike it? What do they know about art? And another thing, I also don't understand why the trans community is complaining too, they're telling the story with a real trans actress, that should be enough! If they cast a cis man to do it they complain, if they cast a trans actress they keep complaining about the representation, about the transition... Another community that doesn't understand art and complains about everything... (my comment is horrible, isn't it? Because that's how any defense of the movie looks, they just don't want to see it yet)
This movie serves as proof that 'different' and 'unique' does not correlate to 'good'
I will accept that it is different and is probably the first time way to many fringe topics were touched on all at once. However if you don't say every other aspect is hot garbage, you have no critiquing skills. The script, the world building, the acting, the songs, the performances of the songs, all of it was high school level maybe. The cinematography of the sets was fine but made the actors look older and dirty then they are in real life. They tried to be hard hitting but resolved nothing.
Even Luke Jennings, the author of Codename Villanelle books which Killing Eve is based on, hated the show ending. He hated it so much he even decided to write (and publish it for free on his Substack account) a fourth book that does involve Villanelle getting shot and both her and Eve ending up in the river. But instead of Villanelle dying they both survive and receive a happy ending. Imagine writing an ending to a tv show so bad, that even the author of the source material felt compelled to write a fix-it fic 😆
I didn't hate this movie after I saw it, but I didn't think it was anything special either. The awards love it has gotten has made me hate this movie. It is objectively a weak film. It does nothing terribly well, and it receiving the same amount of nominations as Oppenheimer, Gone with the Wind, and Chicago is gaslighting at its highest degree. It's not the worst movie I've seen, but it is really the most mediocre one I've seen this year, and the level of egregious praise heaped on this film is so disingenuous and self-incriminating that every awards body that awarded it deserves to be disbanded and thrown into obscurity.
It’s because the main protagonist is trans. C’mon now. You know Hollywood loves a good virtue signal. Good thing the racist has been exposed and compromised any more shine they put on this film.
The reason why MEXICANS hate this movie is that it trivializes an issue that's been going on for ages; changing the lens to a "more nuanced" topic like transgenderism, yeah people going missing and never seen again isn't nuanced enough, or how the cartel rule over isn't important anymore. It's portrayed in an irreverent way so people can have a laugh out of Mexico's difficulties. Did you know that they filmed the movie in another country cuz when the director visited Mexico he didn't find what he was expecting to see? Yes, cuz he didn't find a freaking sepia town. He discovered Mexico has cities well developed, skyscrapers, and pavement. Not to mention the internet, wifi, and social media.
The director was supposed to have a Q&A at the Cineteca Nacional, but he got cold feet and sent alone the only Mexican actress in the project, who, by the way, plays the least memorable character. The production claimed they were "open" to hiring Mexican actors, but apparently, no one "fit" the roles. The movie tries to make you feel like it takes place in a country that no one in the production bothered to visit or study, apart from relying on harmful stereotypes. We don't hate this movie because it's the next "trendy" thing to criticize. We hate it because it romanticizes a harmful, hurtful, and horrible truth in our culture, without even caring to showcase the realness and beauty of our people. It even denies the appearance of our real faces and expressions. We hate this film because it clearly doesn't care about our truth. And honestly, we are tired of the erasure and mockery these types of projects excel at while profiting off our culture and our pain.
The only thing that I didn't dislike about the movie was Zoe Saldaña, she was good and had a nice voice
I started watching it w my sister and after 20min we stopped bc the spanhish was very weird (we're portuguese so we can easily understand it), the singing was not great and it def didn't feel like a musical when the song meant something to move the plot, the songs were mostly just dailogue being sung which doesn't make sense to me. I later watched the movie til the end and the ending is not as bad as the beginning so maybe people forget how bad the beginning is when they reach the end
I see your point and there are some parts that are actually enjoyable. However I have to politely disagree with the ending. The ending is really problematic and appaling for us that we've leaved in countries with drug-lords (or narcos) problems. Imagine the jewish people santifying and building sculptures to honor Hitler, even if they didn't know it was him. Hits different, doesn't it?
I think, it would be easier to believe in the hype surrounding Selena Gomez' acting skills, IF she didnt exist in the same universe as Ariana Grande and Lindsay Lohan.
… and Raven and Keke and Zendaya (though I’m not obsessed with her either lol), and aaallllll the other young actresses who run circles around her in every way shape and form. 😒 Her brand is being ‘relatable🥺’ (read: mediocre) which fine, until she starts taking the slots of other actresses who are far superior 😩
@JeannesMovieChats Well, ... you and I both know, that in Hollywood you can either be Black or mediocre. 😉
Great reaction! Yeah, I agree that it wasn't a strong year. I'm glad Yura got in but yeah Kieran will definitely win (even though I'd rather any other performance in that category win)
Thank you! And my sentiments exactly! 😅
The “anti woke” crowd hates it because it has a transgender character, the queer community hates it because it's trash representation of transgenders, Mexicans hates it bc it's trash representation of Mexico, some bad acting, and then there's extra hate because this movie is overhyped by the awards
The peoblem is they are doing a portrait of Mexico that is a farse, nobody speaks spanish and the spanish use is directly translated from google from french, this movie is a mockery fror an entire culture that you do not understood
I have a feeling Ari is going to take it, the academy loved Wicked. She’s probably going to win sag and critics choice which gives her a great chance. Im praying that she wins she was so amazing. Fingers crossed 🤞

Me too. More deserving than Zoe Saldana. 🤞🤞🤞🤞💖💚💖💚💖
It’s giving Oprah line you hate this movie you hate this movie you hate this movie everybody in this world hates this movie
It’s just a political show now filled with perverts and Pedaphiles. All set
I have to tell you something-Flow is not a 'miracle' that accidentally landed in this category and won Golden Globes by some mistake. It received a 10 minute standing ovation at Cannes, won multiple awards at the Annecy Film Festival, and was crowned Best Animated Feature at the European Film Awards, among several other awards (~50 in total). Just because you like one particular movie doesn’t give you the right to shit on other films-especially ones you haven’t even seen! And honestly, if you do watch Flow, I can only imagine you’ll approach it with so much bias and negativity that you won’t even allow yourself to see the beauty of this masterpiece. Unlike Emilia Perez, Flow is far from a mistake. It’s a brilliant film for those willing to think deeply and understand. As IndieWire put it in their review: 'One of the most groundbreaking animated films about nature since Bambi.'.
Ok jeeez I watched it! I have… thoughts… I might make a video?? Stay tuned!
Weak year for film? AHAHAHAHAHAHAH You're completely clueless. Also, your personal opinions and biases are not facts.
I wish, hope and pray Cynthia Erivo wins
Omg I KNOW RIGHT! THE MOVIE IS SO GOOD!! Me and my lil sis loved it 😆
Personally id rather Ariana over Zoe to win.
She just wants black people to win
In the wise words of Issa Rae - ‘I’m rooting for everybody black’ yes ma’am 🙂↕️🙂↕️🙂↕️
We truly need some Academy's whistleblowers to expose the behind-the-scenes selection process bec. how in the world is Emilia Perez taken seriously?! 🤨
Your glasses look so fancy! 🤩 I hear The Brutalist is good, so I'll probably try to watch it in SEVERAL installments as Im a history and architecture amateur nerd. Streaming services should all allow us to watch videos at 1,5x or 2x speed bec. who has the time?! Im not a cinematography student, I tune in to be entertained! 😅 Edit: In an ideal world, Cynthia Erivo would become an EGOT this year. 😤
Thank you sis! 🥹 Though I’ve never worn them before because of the glare from the ring light. I am thhhhiiiiiissss close to caving on The Brutalist 😒 I might just have to bring 3 square meals, an espresso machine and a sleeping bag or something 😔
The brutalist is good but its brutal lol
@tanishq2625 Brutal in what way? Should I check for trigger warnings?
Some people are obsessed with robots... Calling a film superior just because it has a nice robot while not seen the other animated films. You can't vote for a category after seeing just one film.
How on earth did you come to the conclusion that I’m obsessed with robots….??? Also bold of you to assume I’ve only seen one of these films when I literally have a review of Inside Out 2 on my channel smh 🙃
@ don't you start with me, love. You know what you did. Saying all people who love Flow are just some cat fanatics. I don't even have a cat. I watch 1 cat vid per day max. That movie is changing the definition of animated cinema.
Yes. Rooting for Sebastian too❤
Absolutely hate zoe saldana winning... it's category fraud... She is THE MC in that movie
OK SIS let’s discuss because before I was ALMOST swept up in the awards campaign, I thought the same. damn. thing.
