  • Even though I got a "beater" car, I still had to give it a proper OG decontamination wash. After all, just because it's new, doesn't mean it's clean.

    Considering how immaculate this evo is and how much attention to detail you'll give it, I think it would be best to cover the car in ppf. Also, it's BRAND NEW! When do you ever come across it?! With any car for that fact! We just know you'll look after it regardless. Looking forward to this project mate 👍🏻

    This video reminds me of when I first discovered your channel. I would watch you clean the blue 991 GT3 and white F80 and note each step in the process. Check out a wiper delete from an RS model, and you should keep those oem Brembo rotors, girodisc is nice but it will barely make a difference. Also I would keep the 8 front bumper, it’s in excellent condition and one less thing to paint, and if you swap to a 9 bumper you have to buy all the mesh grills and everything with it

  • @RayNLA
    @RayNLA ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Matt I would only PPF the headlights, bumpers, mirrors and side skirts. Jescar correction compound and finishing polish would really make the grey pop! Looking forward to more videos on this car.

    Looking forward to the progression of this build as an evo owner of 16 years! I'll admit, I did cringe a little when I didn't see a towel stuffed into the snorkel because the filter sits right at the top of it pretty much. Also, I would at the very least PPF the hood, fenders, and front bumper as the oem Mitsubishi paint is VERY thin and chips super easily.

    I also like the TRC clay towels. I fold them twice to reduce the flop and prevent pressure points, and flip as I go. A big part of safe claying is eliminating pressure points and being able to conform to the panel without applying pressure. That said, those clay scrubbers from TRC are legit. They're even better if you use them from a bucket so that you have extra liquid in them. When used properly, they won't mar like a traditional clay or the Nanoskin Autoscrub. The scrubby surface on the backside works great for bug removal too. I've tested both the clay side and the scrubber side on freshly corrected/ unprotected black paint and they will not scratch.
    I like to mix up a couple gallons of clay lube in a clean bucket, then fill my bottle from there so I don't have to do math or try to measure very small amounts.

    I wouldn’t cover the entire thing in PPF, no sense in saving it for the next owner who may not be like minded, and will probably barely care for it 25% of the way us like minded people do. That being said, for your own sanity I would consider PPF on the front clip, bumper/fenders/hood. And possibly the rear bumper from tire kick up.
    Also as much as I thought you having an outdoor wash bay would be cool, I’m coming to realize in the evening time when I’m washing cars how borderline unbearable washing is with all the humidity rising up from the soaking wet driveway. Good way to work a sweat but jeez. Oh and please someday consider doing a 997.1 or .2 Carrera S build. Kinda the arch rival for the e92 back in the day.

    21:00 - I think there is a small detail about the clay bar process that I think you (Matt) are missing here. You mention clay barring or auto-scrubbing as an abrasive process. It is not an abrasive process (or at least ideally it is not). The idea is that the clay bar, or rubber pad, act like a razor blade does on your face when shaving. It glides on the surface and shaves off contaminants. More specifically it allows you to grab and push them perpendicularly to dislodge them from the surface. This is why it is not useful as a polish, because it is non-abrasive. And the only abrasive aspect of the process comes from the fact that clay will load up with abrasive contaminants as you go. Once you think about it this way, like shaving hair from your body, I think it will make a lot more sense.
    The lubrication is not to make an abrasive process less abrasive (as mentioned in the video). It is to keep a non-abrasive process from turning into one if at all possible by providing lubrication and flushing out dislodged contaminants from the clay/rubber.

    I’m curious is there any other ego generation that you would like to have. You mentioned you originally wanted a 9 but what about the 4’s and 5’s? Also I have a feeling you’re gonna end up getting another one.

    I’m on the same page as far as PPF, I want it to stay “perfect” but at the same time PPF is expensive and part of me feels like it’s not justified on a car at this price to wrap the whole car.
    I’m gonna catch some flak for this but the other part of me thinks it’s like a granny wrapping their furniture 😂 when I was growing up I knew people who did it…that being said I have some PPF in high impact areas on my 4Runner. I will probably end up doing some PPF in higher impact areas but i also don’t like that idea 😂. I can’t make a decision whatsoever about this 😜
