first Mortal Kombat movie was fun and the SF2 animated movie was loved. After that.... Boy was it a bumpy ride but now we're finally in a good spot.

I think that's because gamers are old enough to get in corporate decision position, like comic book fans did decades ago. Being in those positions allows for the adaptation not to get gutted for cheap trends.

honestly when i think about it, the franchise most fit for being a movie is zelda. almost every game outside of the VERY infrequent sequels is a new iteration of the characters, world, and franchise in general.
they often retell the same overall stories and themes just with a new cost of paint and approach. this fits perfectly for a movie since things changing and not being 100% the same is apart of the franchise’s identity.
it would honestly be more weird if the movie was say a direct adaption of Ocarina of Time for example. it needs to be its own thing.

Technically, they really arent...yet. but they are getting there. Especially since Hollywood is already figuring out these adaptations are the next cash cow, so it's now a numbers game.

i think the next few years will be vital to see if this statement holds true.
will sonic movie 3 be actually good this time? it might be for once, since it’s the first movie which is actually pulling from a game which was set in the real world with real humans.
mario movie 2 is still 2 years away but now the first movie has set the groundwork for the universe, the movies can literally only get better from here.
FNAF 2 has the potential to be great after inside reports have stated that blumhouse is focusing on making a movie that appeals to both audiences and fans this time, not just shit for fans and not actually making a coherent story.
TLOU and Fallout season 2s will most likely just be as great as their first. Mortal Kombat MIGHT be better due to more game original characters coming into the picture and be actually rated R this time.
i don’t see how they can ruin the Ghosts of Tsushima movie.
the minecraft movie, despite being confusing, has a really promising cast, production team, and director. it will be unique and original, which is the most important thing.
Borderlands seems to be actually solid (if the rumours of mismarketing it aren’t true).

we are definitely getting there, but generally speaking they aren’t always great yet. the only ones i would consider genuinely great pieces of media outside of a fan perspective are The Last of Us and Fallout; and then the Mario Movie as really solid.
FNAF honestly was a terrible movie, the Halo series is godawful, and while fans like the sonic series overall (even though they are still very criticised bc how little they actually have to do with the sonic world) critics hate them. and the negative reception to the knuckles show kinda reinforces this. Uncharted too was received mixed form critics and the fan reception was even more negative.
the Mortal Kombat movie was mediocre at best. Detective Pikachu was fine as a fun family movie but nothing more than that; nothing special. and the recent resident evil projects have been downright unwatchable at points.

most game adaptations are so crap is because they keep hiring people with the hope they know what they are doing. The reality is they dont. They think the are above video games when they cant even handle a 2 hour script or even a 40 minute one. video games have more than adequate stories and its disgusting how much money they loose. video game adaptations have lost 1billion dollars in loss in just 3 years. you could spend a billion dollars in 3 years and these people manage to lose it

Bethesda revealing an earlier fallout is actually a mistake and shows they will just rush another shit game like 76
