    Nice review. As a Mustang guy that switched to a Corvette, I completely agree with your perspective. Only thing I dislike about the Vette is having to be so careful entering and exiting the vehicle, and the very low ride height. Too many obstacles for daily driving, but zero regrets. I'll always have a Corvette from now on.

  • @Tubes12AX7k
    @Tubes12AX7k 3 ปีที่แล้ว +28

    I always like hearing someone else's perspective on cars, particularly one that I know well. It looks like your rental Corvette C7 is a Z51 model, which is identical to mine except for the color. The Z51 package has performance gearing and a slightly stiffer suspension. I actually think the base Corvette is "plenty" for a good touring sports car and it makes for a better rental car than the Z51. The run flat "ZP" tires increase the stiffer feel of the ride, but if you switch to non-run flat tires you'll notice the difference in ride. For anyone interested in buying, you won't need heated seats that come with the 2LT or 3LT trim levels because the car is small enough that it heats up quickly if you want heat. We took ours on a 500 mile trip and it was fine for that although the ride can be a little stiff. So like I said, the base non-Z51 Stingray is plenty. There's a lot of space in the back for luggage for 2 plus bags of food if you plan on doing a weekend trip. I have a small tire inflator that I carry in the cubby hole. The car has a high compression engine and requires premium gas to retard ignition. Battery replacement takes some acrobatics to drop it into in the (very) small spot in the trunk area. Getting in and out is similar to other Corvettes - brace yourself against the seat as you slide in. Otherwise, not much more to say.

    • @jlguzman7810
      @jlguzman7810 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree I have a 2017 c7 don't need any heating in the car every thing I put in the middle of my hatch space heats up from the tranny1 lol I also agree rides a little stiff unless I ride in tour or eco mode and the car being only 4 feet tall gives me a reason to stay in shape lol never had my car without the pilot sport run flats .i love it greatest car ever made for the price never selling mine 😉

      You have a beautiful car, but I disagree on some of your other points. You can actually get the 6L80 in the 2014 C7 and it shifts quicker than the C6 version. There are also a great deal of them that don't have problems. Its not the transmission as much as it is the torque converters. The 8L90 is better in every way especially in torque handling capacity and shift speed.

    You said it yourself, it's a Sports Car, and a Racing car.
    The Mustang was a re body Ford Falcon.
    They originally made it to be a girl's car,a secretary's car.
    The Mustang is a cheap throw away car, and can't compare to a Corvette!!!
    You can't drive it daily,if you're a wimp, and are overweight.
    Im 57, almost 58 years old, and i don't have any problems with getting in or out of my C-7,and I'm 6'4'' tall
    I've only had my 2017 C-7 Corvette Stingray Z51, for about 2 years now.
    It's a 7 speed manual transmission, and i have a great time, everywhere I go with it.
    Doesn't matter if im just running to the store,or around town, or if I take it out for a little road trip.
    It's a Super Car, in every way you can imagine.
    It's not a crummy girls car!!!
    If you're serious about having a great all around car, and a serious car guy, get a Corvette!!!
    If you just want a common little girls car, for going to get your nails done, and stuff like that, and really aren't into car's, get a Mustang.

    Just got a 2016 Stingray Z51. Love it so far! Couple questions, does track mode have the best/fastest throttle response vs all other modes including sport? Second, does it "hurt" the car if you just drive in track mode all the time? I usually drive in sport a lot but kinda love the track feel and throttle response better. Just didn't know if it's bad for the car to just keep in track mode 100% of the time.

    I love my C7 to death, but it is nowhere near as 'fun to drive' in a daily commute as even my V6 mustang was. Too many squeaks, rattles, and honestly the C7 simply takes itself too seriously and is too fast for that. You get to floor it for 1 second before you're over the limit. There really is a lot of truth to the saying "it's more fun to drive a slow car fast than a fast car slow." However, when you take it to the mountains or the track, there really is absolutely no question that the C7 is in an entirely different league of cars than the mustang.
    Just look at lap times, the Stingray w/z51 package sets laptimes only a few seconds slower than a 458 italia... It's a truly insane amount of performance. If you're used to big power in modded muscle cars, the 460HP may not impress, but the handling surely will.

    I agree it’s a tight fit we have a 2014 C7 Stingray. I am a very big guy that is 5‘11“ and weigh over 300 pounds. But once you figure out your seating arrangement it’s actually pretty comfortable on a long journey. My wife and I typically drive our Stingray from New Mexico all the way to Texas. Being that our particular Stingray is a 2LT it’s equipped with ventilated seats which helped The comfort level on a long ride. Not to mention it has plenty of luggage space in the trunk area.
    It also has a transparent targa top that makes the inside feel bigger. Although if you suffer of claustrophobia a Corvette might not be for you. I suggest looking at a Challenger that’s within your budget. We happen to purchase a 2021 Challenger R/T Scat Pack Widebody Shaker. The Challenger is definitely a lot roomier inside and has a ton of power when you get the 6.4L Hemi 392 485hp compared to the C7 Corvette’s 6.2L LT1 455hp or 460hp that’s equipped with the MPP exhaust. Keep in mind that the Challenger drives different depending on the engine package and if it’s a widebody or non-widebody Challenger. The suspension geometry changes completely when you have a widebody version.
    Same thing with the Corvette it changes the way it rides on the highway if you have a C7 Z51 Standard yellow suspension vs the Z51 magnetic ride suspension.
    Depending if you choose a 1LT, 2LT or 3LT your C7 will be equipped with many different features. Keep in mind that the C7 features change mid 2016 all the way through 2019.
    Same thing with the Challenger there’s a giant list of mismatch equipment you can add to your Challenger. All those changes will reflect the price as well on either cars.

You will find the wear on the engine is not much at all,,,,id give it 300000 miles to equate a regular car at 175000. Total rpms and piston/main bearing/rod wear is what wears out engines. Completely honest review and no bias. Easy Sub. Ill check out your other channels. only think i disagree with (owning many cars and having a collection) is the daily driver comment. Sportscars were designed based on small drivers/frames. Look at all the sportcars classes or even gtb gt3 f1 f2 all of them. you don't have guys that are 6'1 or 6'3 driving those cars or honestly, overweight people . Tight fitting like you said. Weight to HP ratios. The C7 (and other vettes C6 , C5 etc) can be daily. You said it yourself, it has comfort mode. They have adjusted these cars which are based on (besides the history of the car) off gt3 gtb and that trickles down to the street.
    They then adjust the car to fit streetability and the people that would drive it. If they adjusted a sports car more to cater to big, tall, heavy people, it wouldn't be a sports car anymore. Its bad enough they have added so much weight for all the luxury elements to sportscars and supercars but notice the fastest are usually the lightest. Add in the massive amount of weight saving material like carbon fiber , kevlar etc to make up for it. Just from the C4, C5, C6 to c7 look at the weight increases. From roughly 3100-3200 for a c4 then a bit over 3250 c5 then c6 a bit more than that then we get into 3400. Add in a 250lb person and your at 3650 wet with driver not including passenger.
    I did the "dream & drive" campaign for the Corvette and Cadillac yearsss ago. (c4 years in the early 90's and mid 90's as well as the new cadillac at the time) Marketing campaign targeting potential customers for corvettes that might drive something else and bringing them down to a track and testing it out along with the weight driving capabilities. I would say , almost all the porsche owners that came , a few ferrari guys all were trim or had reasonable weight and height (this was 1992 new LT1 many did buy a vette) The other people that came were a mix of height and weight and drove different types of vehicles. The few complaints i had were from "bigger" people. I didn't want to say anything but the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few. The vette has always been a powerful sports car and then the z06 and zr1 variations have been supercar level performance like at the nurburgring and other tracks (even base model vettes hang with the top cars) Sorry for the book but that is the one thing that bothered me over the years when i see someone say 6'5 complaining about leg and head room or the guy that is 5'9 weighing 260lbs. I daily drove my vettes over any and all other sports cars and supercars. Comfort mode does a lot for that. im also lean at 5'11 205 and fit perfect (not sure your height and weight) Just wanted to add to the review and perspective. Also , a vette has always been for the middle aged or established financial people not the youth. The camaro and mustang ( both rivals throughout history) fought each other and were muscle cars. Your generation is blessed to be able to get these cars (mustangs, camaros, C4, c5 c6 maybe even used c7 vettes unlike my generation who were stuck with limited selection and price range)
    Great video. Ill check your other videos. Sorry for grammar on my cell and rushing.

      You definitely should if you want to - just if you have the option to also drive two cars like this and the Prius/civic I would probably drive the comfortable cars that fit your needs better. For example if I make 6 stops per day as a personal trainer going home to home, the gas mileage, the getting in and out, the lift up hatchback with lots of room and visibility, large profile tires to smash pot holes, the fact that someone can ding it and I don’t care, if it rains I don’t car… all that is awesome and why I would drive my second car more often for work things Monday through Friday vs wear and tear on a nice sports car. That’s what I was getting at…but at 25 wanting a corvette this probably sounds irrelevant to you

    I own two mustangs and a corvette. I like both but the mustang is a more compromised car, it’s made to be sporty, but not a dedicated sports car. The mustang is more of a true touring car where the vette is a high performance sports car. It’s lighter it will always out handle the mustang, the larger engines give them so much torque under the curve that you can be hauling the mail across a mountain and not even be tapped into the car. Mustangs certainly don’t handle bad, especially the late s197-s550 generations but it’s not comparable. The mustang simply being a heavier, unibody strut car cannot feel as connected, and the coyote needs to be kept way up the revs to keep a solid pace. The vette’s also just feel more special, it’s a hero car of the working class.
