      Because they're surrounded by a culture that allows those interests. Most young kids are interested in making things, that goes away though when you are constantly told that you need a real job

    As an artist, I am really glad they opened their doors to the public. Seeing such amazing craftsmanship is what inspires people to pursue such an industry and join an institution like this.
    When you see something truly beautiful as a child can motivate many people to go down that path. I know for I was the same.

    My favorite part was learning that Mobilier National serves the public as well as government workers! Those library reading room chairs looked magnificent and quite comfy!

    This is something I find the French to be particulary good at: creating works that not only are functional, but beautiful. I wish that more care was taken in today's day and age to make buildings and furniture that are worth preserving for the future. More columns, more arches, more inlay, more scrollwork, more laquer, I say!

      @@rings22​​⁠​⁠the first thing I noticed was how the camera framed the scene of the interview. The camera was directly in front of the interviewers and interviewee, swapping between perspectives as they took turns speaking. Second and most obvious motif was at around 3:40 when it showcased the workers doing their work, and they all pause and look up at the camera with a plain expression. There was also a lot of front facing, symmetrical shots of furniture. Wes Anderson does that in almost all of his movies.

      Mon message ne renfermait que de la surprise, vous savez.
      Surprise qui se poursuit, par ailleurs : vous me parlez de l'Élysée maintenant, mais ce n'est pas de cela que parlait votre commentaire initial : il concernait l'usage de nos impôts regardant le Mobilier National, sujet de cette vidéo.
      La fonction du Mobilier National est précisément de meubler les palais et institutions de la République ainsi que les monuments nationaux, tous les lieux susceptibles notamment de recevoir du public et des visiteurs étrangers, justement pour faire briller le savoir-faire français. Il n'y a pas que l'Élysée qui soit concerné.
      Vous avez tout à fait le droit de penser, par exemple, que le président de la République pourrait recevoir Charles III ou le président des États-unis dans du mobilier IKEA.
      Pour ma part, je trouve plus avantageux pour l'artisanat d'art français que ces chefs d'État admirent lors de leur visite le patrimoine artistique français. C'est une façon de les promouvoir sur la scène internationale.
      Idem pour des châteaux comme Versailles, Fontainebleau, la Malmaison, ou Compiègne : eu égard au nombre de visiteurs étrangers qui viennent y admirer les décors et mobiliers, ne pensez-vous pas que cela fait briller internationalement nos artisans d'art ?
      D'où ma question : s'il vous semble scandaleux que l'argent publique serve à entretenir et restaurer ces objets que le monde entier vient admirer, que suggérez-vous que l'on fasse d'eux, à partir du moment où, selon votre idée, il faudrait cesser de financer leur entretien ?

      "Garde-Meuble Royal" (previous name) exist since 1604, 419 years. Why Great Big Story can't talk about it? Propose them others topics, curious to see what you come up with 😂
