There's something curious about this movie..... There's a saying in my country that translated goes like "No good deed comes without punishment" (Don't know if there's some alike in english). That saying is refered to alway though carefully before acting, cause there's always unforeseen consequences, even with good intentions.... And yet, at the end of the movie, Tony's only good deed (not blowing up the kids) was the one thing that actually killed him.... Considering the alternative (blowing up the kids) most likely Tony will continue growing up his power, becoming somebody even worse...... Is like they pick up the saying and aply it literally on the movie

In the final shootout with the Colombians. When Al Pacino is trying to reload his gun. He accidentally grabbed the barrel of the gun. Which was red hot after being fired 30 times. His hand was actually stuck on the barrel after he grabbed it. The pain of the burn was so bad that it caused him to scream. Geno Silva who played the hitman with the shotgun. Heard Al Pacino's scream and thought "Jesus this guy is really going for it here". Al Pacino's hand was so badly burned that he was unable to work for two weeks. That forced Brian De Palma to film around Al Pacino until his hand healed up.

19:00 Frank was actually right in a way. I'm not talking from experience, but from what I've seen on crime dramas about drug dealers; if you stay low key, under the radar, you'll last a lot longer than someone who goes out all flashy.
Another movie that references that exact point is Goodfellas. Specifically that scene right after the Lufthansa heist. A lot of guys were buying flashy expensive stuff with the stolen money right after they committed the heist. Jimmy strongly advised them not to. He even got pissed off at them and made them return the stuff they just bought.
Frank's third rules should have been "Never be flashy and you'll survive this business longer."

Your reactions to it.....priceless. Thanks guys for this little reminder of one of my yesterdays. I think it is wicked cool how ya are discovering our films. were filmed in LA.

28:46 - that happens when you are emotionally and intellectually deficient. If Tony had a better education, read more books, he could probably better understand this hole he is trying to fill, this driving need. He is trying to fill this with money and power, when what he really needs is emotional closeness and support, and sense of real accomplishment, something his mother can be be proud of. He can't maintain his relationships, he can't find fulfillment in something else (art, sport, learning new things). Drug is the easy alternative.

We talk about the cocaine and his bravado but what did he say to the immigration in the beginning of the movie there's nothing you can do to me that castro hasn't done already. The communism of cuba during that time to where it was so bad they floated on car tires trying to get to America. Tony didnt flinch when omar was hung from the chopper because stuff like that castro was doing everyday. Tony mentally was screwed in some way before Miami. Killing was a natural thing to him and so was dying.
