- Hi everyone hope you enjoy this short video about how I dye fabric. Mind you this is how I dye Aida. I’ve never dyed linen. Please leave me any questions you might have and I’ll try to get back to you as soon as I can. Below I have provided links for the fabric I bought, the rit dyes I use (each one is sold individually) and some containers and tongs that would be useful to use for dying.

“Pumpkin King”Darling Megan…..I drooled every time you shared your piece from ATOMIC in previous reviews…..my wishes have come to fruition……your video tutorial was spot on for a visual-learner-like myself…..what great advice to start small…..keep the supplies needed simple ie yogurt cups, tongs assessable……the layering instructions were superb for a “scardy cat”like me who thinks I am always going to make a mistake …..always remembering “Sherry-errors are how we learn”….this is a GEM of a tutorial!….stay cool in this heat we are sharing…..and the Baby noises are so lovely to the ear……
Thank you SO so much! I was really worried I wouldn’t be able to explain anything well enough and I had filmed this over a week in different segments because the kids so it felt all over the place. I am thankful it turned out and worked for you! You’ll have to let me know how your fabric turns out if you dye anything up. 💖
Loved the info and presentation. I have dyed yarn and fiber before but that is animal fiber, not plant and not a piece of fabric so it gives a whole different look. Thank you. I would wear dish washing gloves for sure - protection from heat mostly. I am a tender 70 year old. 😊 thanks. Buying dye and Aida tomorrow!
Thank you for the tutorial! You explained the process very well and reviewed it again at the end. So helpful.
I also liked being able to see the process as well.
Thank you for sharing how you dye your fabric. You have awesome tips for the modeling. You did a great video! So happy your son is doing well🙏🏻💕
Thank you 🙏🏻 😄
I have never tried to dye my own fabric, but after watching this I am interested in trying it one day. Thanks for making the video. You did a great job putting it together!
Thank you so much! I hope you dye up something amazing
Megan, I want to start out by saying that I love how you explain what you are using and doing and why. I can’t wait to buy some Aida to play with but I also know to cut it into sizes that are practical for me and then scrunch it into disposable containers, not huge bowls.
I hope your fabric turns out great 💗💗
Thanks for this video! I think you did a great job and never apologize for the sound of children! I love hearing them. I’ve been dying my own Aida as well but have not tried 2 colors.😊❤
Thank you! 😊 hope you give multiple colors a try. It’s so fun.
Hello. I am so glad you appeared on my TH-cam feed this morning! I've been wanting to dye my Aida for so long and have watched others that included adding salt, baking the fabric, etc. Your way is definitely easier and you can keep adding color to the process until you're happy with the outcome! WONDERFUL!!! Your explanations were easy to follow and I am no longer afraid to try dyeing my Aida. I cannot thank you enough for this video! I have subscribed to your FlossTube and look forward to seeing you again. THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!
Thank you so much for the kind words! I really hope you get some amazing fabrics to work with. I love dying because it is so easy. I just don’t think it needs to get any more complicated. The fabric will take the dye great and wash just fine in my experience so far without all the extras. My first try I used salt and vinegar to set and don’t see the difference. Rit is great stuff for that cotton Aida. 🎉🎉
What a great video ❤! Megan…. Isn’t it sad that you have to say Be Kind, I’m doing this for fun. You are the sweetest and no one needs to be making anything but positive comments. Thank you for the extra information I didn’t know. ❤❤❤love watching the girlies group videos too!
Thank you so much! 🫶🏻
Thank you for the tutorial. Love the fabric colors you did.
This was such a great explanation, Megan! Thank you for taking all the time and hard work to share this with us. 💙😇
Meline
💖💖💖 thank you, Meline.
Wow I love the effects you are getting on your fabrics and will give this a try, like right away. Thanks so much for filming this tutorial. By the way, Michelle from MommalovesyouGB always filters her dye through a piece of kitchen roll first to prevent these dark spots where the dye didn't mix too well.
Thank you so much for sharing this information on dyeing fabric. Your pieces are beautifully dyed.
Thank you!
Thank you so much for this!!❤It takes so long to receive fabric in Canada sometimes, so learning this is super helpful
Thank you so much for this! It was perfect! I’m not afraid now to give it a try. ❤
Have fun!🤩 💖
I love this video I used for my first time dyeing fabric with excellent results ❤ thanks for sharing :)
Yay! I’m so glad.
Thanks so much for sharing your process. I'm going to give this a try!
GREAT EXPLANATION!! Thank you for the video clips and all your advice. I’m a linen stitcher so will definitely try this out on some plain linen. I have done some dying, but never using multiple colors. Thanks again!
You’ll have to tell me how it goes on linen! 💖💖
You’re a very good tutor, explaining everything, even if the dye can or cannot be dumped down the drain. Great detail, excellent explanation, thank you.
Thanks for watching! So glad it was helpful 💖
Thank you for showing your process! Great tips. You have helped me start dying my own fabric!
Yay! Enjoy 🫶🏻
Informative video! I like to 'see' things being done as you did, so a huge THANK YOU!!! Now I feel ready and prepared to GO for it!!!! :)
Thank you for watching 💖
Thank you for this!!! I just dyed my first aida and this video was perfect 😊
Yay! Glad to hear
Perfect Tutorial! I have been wanting to try to dye my own fabric. Now I am going to try!
Let me know how it turns out for ya! So fun.
What a great tutorial and clear explanation 👍 Thank you so much..I’m definitely going to try this. Suzette
Thank you! I was worried it was a bit all over the place haha. Enjoy and happy stitching, friend.
Thank you for posting that, Megan!!❤
Of course! 💖
I was rocking my baby while watching, he loves listening to flosstube 😂 I love the little raccoon!
Awe how old? My son is 4m now. 🥹💖
It is not your official job but it could be! Love all colors and the mottled effect is perfection.
Haha! Thank you so much. It’s so fun I see why people make it a job.
This was so much fun. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching 😄
Megan, thank you. I enjoyed all your information in this. Will use for reference ❤.
So Glad it was helpful!
This was an excellent tutorial! Thank you so much.
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you so much for sharing this, Megan. I love hand dyed fabric but the costs can be a bit much for this lady.
I gave this a try after your last video. It was fun. I used some scraps of 28 and 32 ct. lugana (mushroom and light taupe). They came out great (and not stiff). Also did some 28 ct. Charles Craft linen from Michael’s. Coloring is ok but fabric stiff (did soften after ironing). I agree with using smaller cuts. Love how you used more than one color on a piece…my next “try”. Thanks for sharing😊!
Yay! Hope you love layering the colors as much as I have. It’s so fun to see how it comes out.
Love the tutorials
Great tutorial. Thank you so much.
You are so welcome!🤗
Thank you so much! I am going to try this.
Hope you have fun!
Thanks so much for taking the time to make a tutorial… I really liked the way you showed your steps but then gave a thorough explanation on how you got different results… your dyeing turned out amazing… I’m definitely gonna give it a go ❤
You are so welcome! Thanks for watching
Omg. It’s a great tutorial and I am a terrified toddler. I still don’t think could try it! I have nightmares of my type dye shirts not turning out perfect at camp! But I am saving this to my cross stitch playlist.
Haha! I really hope you give it a try. Honestly if it doesn’t work out just overdye the whole thing with the darkest dye you have and use it for a Halloween piece 😆. Good luck!
Thanks for sharing the way you dye your fabric! It looks very nice, so I'll try your method. 😊
Thank you! I hope it works out for you. If you do give it a try you’ll have to let me know how it worked for you.
I don't know, Megan, that dark fabric might work for Halloween. Especially if you want a dark and stormy night for your pattern. Hang on to it. You might change your mind later.
A cheap immersion blender might help blending the Rit dye.
Great tip! Thank you
@@TheSeattleStitcher ... You're welcome!
Great video and super ideas for dying fabri! Thanks
Thank you!
The way i flew to watch this video 😘💕🤍

Great video. I live in Canada so ordering any cross stitch material can take a while to receive and can get expensive. I have watched so many videos with salt, vinegar, cooking in the oven. Your video was so easy and simple to understand with clear instructions. My only questions is, will the dye run if I wash my project once it is completed?
I just rinse till the water runs clear and have yet to have a bunch of excess dye but you could always toss in the washer before starting. I know that can shrink things up a bit but I was cold.
@@TheSeattleStitcher thank you.
This was great. Thank you for all the tips! What do you do at the end? Do you rinse until clear in cold water or do you just let it dry as is?
I just rinse it till clear, I don’t pay mind to the temperature of the water when I rise the fabric and I lay it out to dry. Sometimes when I’m impatient I throw it in the dryer LOL.
@@TheSeattleStitcher wonderful, thank you!
Thanks, not as intimidating as I thought it would be!!!!!
Not at all! So easy and honestly if it doesn’t work out just dye the whole piece with the darkest color dye you have LOL.
Does this same dying process work on linen, too?
I have never dyed linen so I’m really not sure. I know dyes take differently on the different fibers but I imagine you can get a mottled effect with the scrunched up process.
🐨👍
I live in Tacoma and would like to start Cross Stitch.
That’s great there is a cross stitch store in Issaquah that you should check out 😃.
From what I researched, Is it true that once I purchase a pattern on most, I own the copyright and able to sell my art when finished without a copyright infringement?
@@danthebreakingnewsman9313 nope can’t resell patterns like that. Please contact a specialist in copyright for more information tho. I work in finance, not copyright or law. Goodluck!
🐨👍
This was such a helpful video! I have tried to dye fabric and have enjoyed the results. But these tips I feel like will
Help so much. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!💕💕💕
