  • Corrections 🚨
    A few of the kits mentioned might be produced in other countries than what I said. My bad. I don’t think it’s important to the review or the quality of the items.
    Dimensions has a full list of DMC equivalents online but are NOT DMC threads. Dimensions has their own flosses. Sorry about that. Not relevant to how I used or feel about the threads just a correction 🙂

    As a stitcher who in terms of kits has really only stitched dimensions kits, this is incredibly helpful! Also, I don’t know how I only recently found your channel. You are a treasure!!

    I use a music stand to hold my patterns. I attach the pattern, sometimes folded, or a photo copy, to stiff cardboard using quilt clips, and I also add the symbol key. It means I can have the pattern at eye level while I am sewing and my sewing light catches the pattern. I then have my pencil and rubber on the shelf. Some people find this arrangement amusing, but it does work for me. Thank you for the reviews. 🎉

    So refreshing to see younger stitchers loving kits. I feel like a lot of sampler stitchers poo poo on stitchers who love kits. I’ve stitched for so long that I’ve got a lot of single unkitted charts and have really bought into the kits for the convenience and the way they look completed. I love them. I recently fell down the stairs and broke vertebrae and I love that I was able to go look at my wips that are kits and pick them back up! Also did some damage buying quite a few more and I have no regrets. I don’t want to have to decide what fabric to use. Or colors to swap out. These are well thought out by amazing companies/artists. Let’s bring the kits back yayyyyyy!!! Thank you so much for doing this flosstube extra video. And yes I do stitch samplers! 🌷

      I agree with everything you said! After having my son my eyesight got even worse and so the Aida in the kits was amazing to work with. I really enjoyed finding the different brands too. There are definitely more out there I would love to try. I like a mix of projects so I’ll keep stitching the kits and my samplers and Quaker pieces and just enjoy the hobby. Kits are so fun!

    🌼 this was interesting! I'm currently working on a Riolis kit, Fairy Unicorn, and I ended up putting the floss on my own bobbins because the floppy card made me crazy. I have a Thea kit and haven't opened it yet. Other than Mill Hills, which I love, haven't done many kits since Dimensions kits in the 90s and early 00s when I was a kid. Thanks for taking the time to lay this out for us, very helpful!

    Great analysis of the pros and cons of various kits. May I suggest: for a coloured chart, you could try copying it in black and white only and with the saturation adjusted to your liking. That will help with the highlighting. Interesting to hear about the wool/acrylic threads, I have two Riolis kits with those but haven’t started them yet.

    🌸 Thanks for the kit review Megan. You shared some helpful information. I have only stitched a Dimensions kit so far. I found it helpful to cut the long threads from the cards and fold them in half and then I punch a hole on the other side of the thread card and loop the threads in the hole. I also twist the threads together and then wrap the twist around the thread card. Happy stitching!

    I've loved stitching kits lately so I appreciate your reviews. 🌻I have several on the needle at the moment - Dimensions, Riolis, Bucilla, Elsa Williams, RTO, Luca-S, and Panna. My feelings about Panna are similar to yours about Andriana - terrible gamma aida that I threw out and horrible floss. I, personally, love the wool acrylic in Riolis kits, but I'm also a needlepointer so have used wool floss a lot. I like the fluffy fullness 😄 Thanks again for this. I'm off to My Bobbin to look at Magic Needle kits since I haven't tried that brand (and NO Thea Governeur for me!)

    I enjoyed the review, and did stitch while watching and listening. I take my Dimensions threads and wrap them onto the small individual bobbin cards, putting the number on them, and the symbol if possible. They come with Aida and I replace this with even-weave linen, I do not like Aida, it tends to be too stiff. I am aware you can soften them, but I don’t do this. I have a couple of other kits you have not used, yet. I am sure you will. 😊

    💐 Very interesting analysis. I have been really interested in the kits by Russian designers lately. I have done a Dimensions Gold and it was challenging because of the colors on the chart. I do best with black and white only and symbols that are really different from one another. I love Adrianna's designs too. So beautiful! Thanks for your info on these kits. Great Flosstube!

    🌺a great episode lovely! really great to hear your feedback I've just gotten back into kits myself and I tried out a Letistitch kit which was good but wow it was mega confusing for me to get into but that was mostly to do with understanding the key, there was no real instruction to guide a beginner through the key when it came to the blended stitches or the stitches where it was one over one but in two colours. And zero indication of which colour went over which. I think kits creators assume they're for different levelled stitchers but could do with have a little more guidance in case you're in fact fairly new but want to have a challenge not everyone likes starting with easy kits they want to start with a picture that draws them in. 😊 I know I do haha!

    • @TheSeattleStitcher
      @TheSeattleStitcher  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Adventurous beginners UNITE 🤣. Seriously it can be so tricky sometimes the way kits come and how to use them. I didn’t want to buy a bunch of extra accessories either because I don’t think someone just getting into the hobby necessarily would. Ya know? Especially if you’re not sure it’s the hobby for you. It can be a major investment.

    🌼. Job well done. Thank you! 😊 I’ve purchased a few kits & most were very similar (Deminsions or such). I have learned what I like & don’t like - or like you noted, my preferences. Also interesting to me, I would have assumed the more expensive - better quality & more “professional” packaged. I think these companies could benefit from having input from you. Many of us wouldn’t have tried that many - and definitely not simultaneously.
    On a side note, I purchased a Caterpillar crossstitch kit. Was a little hesitant about it at first, because saw them via FB ad & were a little pricier. However I was extremely pleased with everything about it.

    💐If Andriana has no haters I am dead :p I feel very vindicated by your video because I've never seen anyone other than me complain about the quality in this brand. I've done 3 kits by them and I've had charts with incorrect keys (missing/wrong symbols), where the colors on the pattern doesn't match up with those on the mock-up (I had a large chunk of dark brown that was white according the chart), terrible threads that knot, cut into your finger s and fray constantly,... back when I stitched them ages ago I also found it a bit sketchy cause I would see the same designs online mentioned under different names and brands so for the longest time I thought they were one of those ali-express/shein type things

    Thank you so much for the information on all of these kits! I am also newer to stitching and kitted first and I am now diving into kits. Luca-S is the kit I am currently stitching and I also thought I would like the floss keeper and have changed to floss drops because of the mess. Something I wanted to add that may be helpful for some, with Luca-s if you email their customer service with proof of purchase they will send a pdf copy of the chart that can be uploaded in a stitching app of choice. I personally do not do well with paper patterns and that was a huge help for me! They can also assist if you happen to run out of floss. Some of their kits are DMC and others are their brand of floss. So just wanted to share. Thank you again for the helpful sharing of your experience!

    I’m stitching a Dimensions Gold right now, and thankfully the chart is gorgeous. I had each page slightly enlarged. I didn’t use the floss sorting card with it though. I floss dropped the floss and have found it to be the perfect length for the loop method. I’ve never marked off stitched areas on a chart. I just use a magnet board and magnet to follow the chart (I’m very old school since I’ve been stitching since 1981 😂). If an area is particularly busy, I stick to about a 3 x 3 grid area. I did switch my fabric from the 18-count Aida to the 16-count Easy Count. It’s been great to stitch on and the coverage is perfect. I really like Luca-S but have not tried the other kits you mentioned. Thank you for such a thoughtful review of the different brands! ♥️ Morgan hoops are the best, aren’t they? I love them.

    I would love for you to try a Lanarte cross stitch kit. I feel it is a good kit. I am stitching Four Seasons by Marjolein Bastin, which is huge. Not sure I will ever finish, but I love her artwork. It came with 28 count Zweigart uses DMC floss. I did change mine from the floss cards to plastic floss cards because of it being big. I am overwhelmed by the pages 11x17, they are easy to read and on backside is same pattern with outlines. I got my kit at JoAnns online with a 50% off.

    Hi there! Have you ever tried Letistitch kits? I found the brand on Michaels, but I can't find really any reviews for it. It seems like a fairly large full coverage so I would hate to drop the money on it and hate it. Thanks for posting this! Super helpful for someone who is new to cross stitch and not familiar with all the different kits!

      I haven’t but I heard that they are the same big maker that does Luca-s as well so I imagine they are pretty good quality in fabric and floss.

    Regarding dimensions, they're the only kit brand I've stitched and maybe I'm just used to it, but I don't struggle with the charts at all. Katie from reds stitchery also complained about it but my eye just get it I guess. The Aida on the other hand is awful. It's so stiff and I change it every chance I get.

    In andriana kits canva Gamma (and it’s usually 50/50 people like it or hate it) and floss it’s PNK Kirov and it’s a reason that stops me from getting lots of kits, in my opinion it’s absolutely the worst. Good call on changing fabric it will help!
    But this brand of floss, in my understanding, way cheaper than DMC and, especially right now, DMC can be hard to find so that’s why some Russian cross stitch brands use Kirov floss

      I’m so bummed about the floss. It’s just so awful to stitch with. Like absolutely kills me want to stitch. 😫😫 even the sound of it passing through the fabric is just yuck. 😫

      @@TheSeattleStitcher may be mybobbin will get it and we can just use DMC pallet to change floss lol
      But yes there is lots of brands that use this type of floss and I love designs a lot but not purchasing it for this reason :(

    Not having done cross stitch yet, What is the reason to do back stitches instead of regular stitches

    • @TheSeattleStitcher
      @TheSeattleStitcher  หลายเดือนก่อน

      It adds dimension and detail to the piece. Personally I don’t mind it but a lot of people hate it.

      @@TheSeattleStitcher When a design has back stitches, do you have to do that to make the piece look better or can a regular stitch be used?

    • @TheSeattleStitcher
      @TheSeattleStitcher  หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@danthebreakingnewsman9313 I think it’s more personal preference. Some people don’t mind the way things look without the added back stitch. For me, I think it really helps get the details in to pieces especially faces or little wings and hair etc. back stitch can not be replaced with regular cross stitch since back stitch is on top the the existing cross stitches.
