You guys need to make a short where Dean is on his way to see the Flash and is stopped by his future self who tried to warn him about it, then the universe starts to collapse, and then you see a bunch of young bad CG versions of the Corridor crew.
dean trying to explain flashpoint the comic to his friends who are all losing there shit and not really listening but he's just keep going is whole mood... been there buddy... i feel the pain
I hate how Barry supposedly goes back in time to save his mother but doesn't care enough about her to find out who killed her. She becomes such an afterthought very early in the movie that the emotional heart of it vanishes.
Then on top of that he also never learned his lesson the big thing was he was supposed to accept he can't save his Mom or mettle with time but he still does it and saves his Dad from prison
So Jay Garrick was actually in the most recent Flash show and the only reason we know they used a crew member for the face was because the actor who played Jay Garrick saw the movie and was like "Was that me I don't remember being in this movie" because it did look like him. Also Nicolas Cage Superman was fighting a spider because the director who I guess took over after Tim Burton was obsessed with the final act being fighting a giant spider. He did Wild Wild West soon after. Kevin Smith goes into get detail about it.
The Flash was horrendous. I agree with Dean. It’s already out on streaming which tells you it didn’t do well ( nor was expected to) in theatres. Oh, and a baby in a microwave? Really.
I relate so hard with Dean here, both in terms of disliking The Flash movie and in terms of trying to explain the weirder-but-still-awesome elements of comics and having those concepts mocked. I know they’re just joking and don’t have any actual ill will, both on the podcast and in life, but at a point it does get a little annoying, because we comic fans really do love these characters and concepts no matter how weird they get.
Always love it when the Crew has a podcast where they just rip into something bad they've seen recently/this year. Its always amusing seeing their logical breakdown of it and gives me a good laugh.
The Flash was my first film in the industry. And I am a big DC fan, so I was in geeky heaven! Got to walk around the Batcave and other sets. The code name for the production was Baby Shower because of the hospital scene. They even built the lower part of the Hospital on the back lot at Leavesden where the Ambulance collapses into the ground. As a film it's not perfect but I thought it was better than I expected, even if I'm biased as I worked on it and my name is in the credits!
I wonder if Dean has seen it. I thought it was actually a great animated movie (but to be fair, I don't have much original comic book knowledge to compare it to).
Just wanted to say, besides of course another incredibly entertaining episode from yall but Dean mentioning All Star Superman and Flashpoint was like a punch to the gut, its so true and sad
I relate to Dean's feeling with Superhero content in reference to the comics. Comics are so superior in planning stories that intersect with other series to tell a long narrative to just watch movies that burn to think about, I get it.
The Nick Cage thing is actually worse than Dean describes it. Sure, the idea of Cage as Superman is mostly just a meme at this point, but how many people know that the giant spider is part of the meme? The whole thing stems from a story told a thousand times by Kevin Smith, who wrote the initial screenplay for the film. Smith met with the producer of the film, Jon Peters, who insisted that Superman had to fight a giant spider in the third act. Smith writes the scene, but obviously, the movie never happens. Fast forward to the next year, Wild Wild West comes out, and it has a giant mechanical spider in the third act. And take a wild wild guess who produced the movie...Jon fuckin Peters. The entire scene isn't just a callback to an obscure meme, it's a callback to an obscure, mostly-unknown story Kevin Smith tells people at conventions.
Never ever felt the passage of time on corridor more strongly than nick sounding mad ignorant while deans talkin about Flashpoint and the joker. I feel you Dean
When Dean started talking about flashpoint it was just annoying that everyone didn't want to listen and saying "it's his truth" rather than just listening to the explanation
There are movies that are liked or loved by nearly everyone, many more that are universally disliked, but the average public opinion for the vast majority of movies is somewhere in between, skewing towards the middle. Art is subjective so opinions will always be both positive and negative. The reason that good movies are rarer is because people appreciate originality. When Jon Favreau made the first Iron Man and the concept of all these movies (The MCU) being connected and ultimately coming together was introduced, it was a unique and exciting idea that had never been explored before. It didn't matter that there were a few movies, out of 23 that didn't do well because most did. What mattered was that the ratio of good to bad, compared to movies in general was remarkable. More importantly, in my opinion at least, was that the overall story arc had a satisfying beginning, middle and end, which it did. It was great, but it took place over more than 10 years so it's no longer original. In fact it's almost become like a homework assignment, keeping up with all the content so that everything makes sense. It's exhausting! It had an unbelievable run through, but not even taking into account the over-saturation of disappointing content, I believe that most people, including myself would agree that there is without a doubt, superhero fatigue.
The joker from The Joker movie wasn't batman's Joker. That was the guy that inspired Batman's joker to exist by being the calamity he was in his time. Killing the comedy host on live television was seen by batman's joker as a totally otherwise unrelated kid.
Tell Dean we need to be best friends. I felt like I was listening to myself. I bet he feels the same way about Black Adam. You guys need to have me as a guest, me and Dean could tear DC apart. And DC is also my favorite comic verse.
my dad was so invested in this film, he tried so hard to get us all to watch it. we ended up all fighting with each other for like half an hour because of that opening scene, it set us all off on the wrong foot and he was still so adament. the rest of my family went to bed. my dad and i ended up finishing the film because I thought that opening scene was so hilariously dogwater that the rest of the movie must be just as goofy. the rest of the movie dragged on. this film was like 3 hours or something. by the end i was mentally wrecked, physically in pain. we had another fight. it was great. i've never been so insulted by a movie in my life, and it was only personal because my dad loved it so much.
good day to have an episode come out. I'm stuck at home with a concussion after wiping out on my onewheel...I know ironic right? I've joined the gang with wren and Carmichael
The Flash was in development since at least 2004. Warner Brothers wanted to make a Flash movie since the 80's, but they started in earnest by hiring David S. Goyer to write and direct one in 2004.
To the credit of the Flashpoint comic Barry going back in time to save his mother alters everything that happens after it in that timeline. Instead of his parents dying Bruce Wayne dies which motivates his father to become Batman early on and his mom has a psychotic break after losing her child. The universe created by these ripples are the effect of this. The Flash film doesn’t even try to lineup it’s convolution in a plausible more coherent way. Barry going back in time and saving his mom in the early 2000s somehow makes a another worlds Batman from 1992 and a gender swapped Kal-El stand in exist in Barry’s timeline!? It’s the laziest most nonsensical way of shoehorning in what they thought would be a popular cameo. It’s so pathetic and as a huge DC fan it’s beyond anger inducing.
I thought Bruce's parents were killed before Barry's mom in the comics so Flashpoint did change things from the past too. And Supergirl isn't gender swapped Kal because he exists but was intercepted by Zod before reaching earth
I relate to Dean so much in this episode I'm also 26 and also grew up on DC and everything he said about this is 💯 facts Maybe it's a bad idea to still have hope and excitement for the future of DC but James Gunn has yet to make a movie I didn't enjoy and from what he's already said and announced there's certainly potential
The Flash CW show had a Jay Garrick played by John Wesley Shipp. He also played Barry Allen in the CBS's "The Flash" in the 90s. He was a more recognizable Jay than just some dude, fans of the Flash CW show would recognize him at least.
CW Flash had some high highs when they did their multiverse with Arrow, Legends of Tomorrow, Supergirl and Black Lightning. Because like Dean and Jordan said with the Thanos and Endgame comparison. It. Was. Earned.
Yeah, it is absurd that they brought in 4 supermen/women and only one Flash and that Flash was the only character who wasn't based on someone who actually played them. How you don't bring in JWS to pay homage to the first TV Flash series and Jay Garrick (and Barry's dad) in the new Flash I have no idea.
In defense of the whole Nick Cage cameo choice, I remember when Marvel fans were going absolutely nuts over the mere rumor that Tom Cruise would be making a cameo as Iron Man, because apparently he turned down the original role way back when or something like that. Like Nick said, companies have learned that its those "what if this actor actually got the chance to play them" cameos that drives engagement up a wall.
The pinball movie was pretty good, speaking of biopic type stuff. I'm still full-on into superhero stuff though, I'll watch most stuff. Even Secret Invasion was perfectly ok, though, annoying if it goes where some people are saying, that it's being used for replacing/rebooting characters...
The baby shower was the best part of the movie, speaking as someone who read a lot of silver age comics as a kid because the only place that sold comics was a used book store. It was ridiculous. I like ridiculous. Was the CGI perfectly realistic? No. Do I care? Not enough to not suspend my disbelief. But I'd rather see the Flash save a bunch of babies than see Superman destroy a city. The story as a whole was ultimately about moving on and accepting loss, so it was nice to have a sequence of actual heroism at the start. The movie as a whole...good not great. The third act was the worst part.
I truly dig how uncomfortable Dean seems as he is trying to explain such an important subject to him as a fan and the rest of the crew just trying to be involved in the conversation by ignorantly trolling the subject with random unfunny comments, this feels like every fan of anything trying to pass through his passion to other people that in reality they just don't care 😓
This is really funny and I totally agree with everything except the Nicholas Cage moment, best moment of the film imo. Its goofy yea, but its like a funny regard to the fact that he almost got the role as superman which is funny in and of itself. To me it felt more like a funny meme recognition than a "how to get the most articles written because famous actor"
I do admit. i like the Kara/Red Son connection -- tho yeah. i did watch the animated flashpoint movie IMMEDIATELY after this at home. it was the exact same for the reveal of kara. nice. and i really like her eventho i've never been into any live-action form of supergirl. ..BUT at least they gave good emotional beats for Barry with his mom and ACTUALLY show him going back to "save her" unlike the animated movie -- which comes across as a brain fart. i had to rewind to see when he saves her/"of bleep. did i miss that?'" moment, but it's nowhere there.
The thing about the Flash movie is as terrible as it was, the Supergirl actress did a great job. I hate that this was this version of Supergirl’s debut. Her and Keaton were the only good parts of the movie.
Phantom Menace Syndrome... I remember so well that odd feeling as the credits rolled on Episode I. My friends seemed to like it, and I certainly didn't roast it at the time. But it was like getting a pair of socks as your one and only christmas present. That feeling definitely deserves a good name. But we all expected it to be good. Why in the world would anyone expect this thing to be good? When was the last time anything even remotely original was made?
Broooo nooo Jakeee, Bruce's mom became the joker becase Bruce was the one killed that night instead of his parents, His dad became Batman full of hate and revenge and his mother became the joker because she snapped.
Greenlighting the project where Dean is stopped by his future self seeing the flash It would be filled with flashbacks and horrible cameos of nicolas cage in a superman suit, and appearance from supergirl from 1977, not to mention the appearance from "that guy". Dean being in this kind of pain is just as funny as Jordan's and Matt's pain from the Steve Segal podcast.
The irony is that there's a perfectly good (really good in fact) animated version of Flashpoint to reference. Looking forward to 'Some Guy: The Movie'

It wasn't the Director. It was the producer that wanted the spider. That is a Kevin Smith story.

'some guy' is the new credits scroll. We used AI to make the characters, used the sound guy for the model, made the whole movie without actors.
one of my favorite podcast episode. they lynched the new flash movie like no tomorrow. well deserved

There is no fatique for Superhero movies.
