  • Bulman is undercover as a beat copper investigating the dodgy antics of a sergeant (the Briscoe of the title). Briscoe knows every trick in the book but is he crooked? It’s up to Bulman to find out.
    (Plot spoilers below)
Michael Byrne is Briscoe, he’s one of those actors that does unsympathetic really well. He’s definitely sailing close to the wind in terms of job, moving white goods in the police van, drinking on duty in the local pub (making sure he doesn’t pay for the beer either) and paying a couple of home visits. The whole episode takes place over the course of one night shift, Bulman is the only regular cast member to appear. There is also the added bonus of a scene involving Bulman dancing.
The familiar face of David Neilson, best known for Z-Cars, and later in Coronation Street as Roy Cropper, makes an appearance as Torchy.
    First broadcast 3rd May 1978.
    Cast:
    Don Henderson as Bullman
    Michael Byrne as Sgt Briscoe
    Bill Tarmey as Alf
    David Neilson as Torchy
    Michael Turner as Inspector Veevers
    Anna Nygh as Josie
    Johnny Allen as Billy
    Kenneth Alan Taylor as Harris
    Russell Dixon as Ridgeley
    Sara Aimson as Diana
    Jonathan Barlow as Constable
    Suzanna Hamilton as Judy Collins
    Bartlett Mullins as Dobson

I never could quite get where the plotting was going for this episode.
And what a smug character, is Briscoe. Out of all the characters on this episode, he did the majority of the talking!

I shall have to wait and see if I concur - as I haven't got round to watching yet. The irony, eh, having uploaded all these videos!

@@bradz007 You know, part of the reason I started this channel was to escape all of that crap. I'm not against quality new stuff, and occasianally there is something worth watching, but vertually everything now involves some kind of ideaological stance, propaganda etc. It seems difficult to tell straightforward stories these days without some kind of angle. Anyway, pleased you're enjoying the various stuff I put up.
