I have mixed feelings about this presentation. On the one hand it is a fantastic photo montage of the life of a very singular genius. It seems well researched and well reported however to title it about the violence of the man was a cheap shot. What I saw was a man operating at a very high level of creativity who has all of us humans, had feet of clay. A personality that profound that strayed into overly sharp rhetoric and verbal abuse of others. When you compare that to you yourself compiled as a lifetime of excellence and service that benefited physically and spiritually to people all over the planet then it was very unfair to encapsulate this presentation as the violence of Jerry Lewis. You ought to be ashamed of yourself and if you’re not then there are some of us out here who see through you and your desire to gain a TH-cam following with no regard for your tactics. Have you been more sincere about your presentation it would’ve been not just a good presentation but a great presentation about a great man who had flaws. But your inability to go for the cheap shot really characterizes YOU as a poor excuse for a human being. Pageofwonder 0:06

My father, as a Pan Am captain once flew Jerry Lewis to Rio and it I just happened to be on the same flight (first-class). I don't recall what caused the event, but,Lewis became verbally abusive with one of the stewardesses (as they we referred to at the time). Said stewardess complained to my father and my father came out from the cockpit, approached Mr Lewis saying, "If you ever speak that way to anyone on my flight again, in the manner in which you did, I will come out and kick the bejesus out of you.". Lewis behaved himself the remainder of the flight. I sat across the aisle from Mr Lewis and at some point he looked over at me and, seeing the smile on my face, he said, "What?" and I said, "He's my father." And I have to say, he took it rather well and laughed, adding, "I bet you'll remember that for the rest of your life." I instantly forgave him. Btw, I had no idea whether my father recognized who he was and I certainly didn't.

He could have had narcissistic traits or personality: infidelity (narcissists perceive only physical part of love and sometimes are mad about it), lack of empathy (insensitive jokes), cruelty (harassment), lack of values (insensitive public comments, harassment), etc. His acting career, contribution to MD charity could be motivated by the need for attention (so called: narcissistic supply). I recommend anyone to at least learn 'Narcissistic Red Flags', look up Prof. Sam Vaknin (self aware narcissist), Dr. Ramani, Dr. Les Carter, Dr Abdul Saad, Ross Rosenberg (interview: 'The Ugly Truth about Gaslighting' as test for narcissistic parents).
Only competent health professional may give proper diagnosis, will need good observations for that, and usually family, friends, close people do have enough of them. There are some common types but really each narcissist is different like fingerprints. For the victims proper diagnosis is not required to learn how to deal with them.
I wonder why he disown children from the 1st marriage? Perhaps they knew and were able to tell the truth about him. Narcissism is just type of character, it's not a disease but such person can destroy lives of close people, communities, world in order to save face (someone with NPD). Millenials have 4x more such traits than the rest of population.

@@sunglasses-ex4jn I’m delighted for you that you have nice memories of him. I do not intend to bring his name down. I know many narcissists, narcissistic people and love them dearly. If you go deeper into this issue you may love him even more. Narcissists are people broken in childhood, going through life in fear, dealing with difficulties like 2 years old, denying they do anything bad while for lack of empathy using, destroying people. He started pulling Dean’s hair, got too difficult, overdid. I believe him when he said in one interview they never lost contact. They stop working together but kept meeting, participated in parties of both families. It was very kind of Dean. I’ve seen him looking during some performances just miserable.
It was very wise of Jerry to choose to be an actor to satisfy his need for attention (called ‘narcissistic supply’). Many narcissists or narcissistic people for attention (negative or positive) will irritate others, insult, lie, abuse.
He is not a man who made mistakes but a man who had certain tendencies, constant pattern of negative behaviours.
I used to love to watch Carol Burnett Show. But more I did it came realization that they also pushed down the level of sensibility of viewers what is decent. If it wasn’t for that I would have bought all her DVDs

I read quite a while back that part of the reason the MDA dumped him was there were too many unanswered questions being asked about where all that MDA donations went? Supposedly much off it was unaccounted for and didn't end up working for the MDA research programs. Considering the nature of his personality, it is not a long shot to consider him a scam artist, or worse yet, like the rest of the Rat Pack, tied in with the Mafia in some way.

Two of his kids, when adults, committed suicide because of the brutal physical and emotional treatment by Crosby. Those are verifiable facts, not rumors or hateful comments.

When he came to Australia, l wanted to pass the torch onto my children, because l absolutely loved him. We couldn't afford to go, so, l wrote him a letter explaining and promised him that my children and grandchildren will always know him. l got such a shock when in the mail l got this A4 size autograph for me and each of my children, So, sorry I'm not going to bag someone that made my children, grandchildren and myself continue laughing. YOU are the one confused over the birth certificate. The name on it is Jerry Lewis Davidson, the birth date is Sept. 12, 1972. It says this person was born in Dallas, TX. You just got through saying he was born on March 16, 1926 in Newark, NJ. Why is the documentation so blurred? So people can't read it? On the census record it clearly says Jerry Lewis, not Jerome. Though he is gone, Gilbert Godfrey's podcast is still around. Gilbert was big on movie stars and movies and the dirty things they were known for. Some people did not speak well of Lewis. One said, "Well, he was always nice to me." That was about the best thing any of the guest had to say about him.
Gilbert did say that Dean and Jerry did work some together after they broke up. They did shows in Vegas and L.A. from time to time.
Lewis himself said the didn't speak for 20 years but, he called Dean when his son died and they playbills of shows they did together.
Lewis appeared on the sitcom Mad About You and was really the only modern show he appeared in. In an interview when asked why he said, "No one asked me." I wonder if it was because he was so hard to put up with.

Jerry Lewis was not in any way hollywood's most "violent icon". There's lots of actors who were and are known to beat up women and other horrible things. As far as is known, he never violently assaulted anyone. True, he was probably a sexual harrasser but so are 3/4 of famous men especially in that era when it was unfortunately a widespread behavior among celebs. So, in that sense, he was no better or worse than most in his position of power and influence. As a performer, he was amazing and very experimental and ahead of his time in some ways. My fave of his is The Errand Boy which almost has a silent movie feeling to it. His artistic legacy is at the very top . His personal/family legacy not great, but again, that's not much different than many celebs who gave most of their attention to their career and little to their families. His work with MDA also can't be forgotten as a humanitarian endeavor. Young people today are not really aware of his artistry, which is sad.

I was the house band orchestra leader at Brown's in The Catskills and for 6 horrendous years was forced to work the telethon or lose my job. Jerry was a true monster and forced people to work and then he took credit for their labor. He was very cruel and totally greedy and dishonest in person.

@@rubynormayanez5698 yes, that's the kind of behavior I heard many times. Like I said: a loser. And sadly enough he never had to justify himself.

I worked at a TV station where a On Air Talent that once worked WITH Lewis on one of his Los Vegas Telethons worked. He told horror stories about what happened back stage with Jerry! AND AT 7:09, THAT IS NOT JERRY!!! That IS Rowan Atkinson or Mr Bean! AND in the movie "The Family Jewels" he played ALL OF THE UNCLES!!!!!!! TRY AND CHECK YOUR FACTS!!!!!!!!
