She's a national treasure. I would say her most outstanding trait is that she is very compassionate.

She is really smart and knew that other people make more money with a musician then they themselves so she kept her rights and founded her own recording company. I really love that she is so honest about her upbringing and everything else. I wished more honest people in this world. ❤❤❤

Tom Parker robbed Elvis blind, he was lying to you about your song.

What does whitney being black have to do with dollys impression of her recording the song? I swear the media is what keeps “racism” alive.

It wasn’t him she turned down and it wasn’t his fault. It’s his bad ass “manager” who made many bad decisions. Not sure why she said he made good decisions, many of them were shit decisions which hurt EP.

Because it’s not kosher to knock any other person in your line of business. Dolly has class. And yes the colonel did make some good decisions.

@@JCEpps Yes like signing Elvis Presley. Everything else just happened and was accidentally beneficial. EP was born to be a star and would have been no matter what.

GIRL! you are awesome for NOT falling into the racist trap question he asked about Ms. Houston singing your song. My God, how disappointing that he had to try and turn a beautiful moment in history into a mean disrespectful point of view. Dolly, you are and have always been one class act with the sweetest heart! Love you forever and always.

Amen to everything you said! Could not believe he stooped that low. Totally inappropriate and uncalled for. Dolly handled it eloquently as she always does.

I am sure that, through the years, many men thought that Dolly Parton would be a pushover. I am also sure they learned the hard way how wrong they were.
I wish Elvis would have recorded the song anyway and a long lost copy would appear one of these days.
Until then there is a nice AI version available on TH-cam.

Way to go, Dolly, I'm glad you've denied Elvis Presley from covering your song because of Colonel Tom Parker's demands.

I have no knowledge of a planned Elvis session where he was going to record this song. Every recording session Elvis ever had or that was planned but then scrapped, is documented on Keith Flynn’s Elvis recordings website, everyone can look it up. Elvis’ final divorce was in 1973, and this song was only released in 1974, so how could he have sung it to Priscilla on the day of his divorce ? Anyway, bless her heart, she is so great, it is one of the greatest songs ever written, and I’m sure Elvis thought very highly of it. Might have wanted to record it, who knows, that wish might have even somehow reached Dolly, as I don’t think they even met each other, but I don’t think it ever went any further. Personally, I think the song would have been too painful and vulnerable for Elvis to sing, publicly at least.
