- Wah! Banana! So many different types of banana! Don’t say bojio! Angel jio Chicken Genius Singapore to try out 9 different types of banana and to give them a score based on their taste and texture. Since Singapore is an import hub, Singapore is able to import many different type of food, fruits and of course banana! The benefit of living in Singapore is that you get to try food from different parts of the world! In today’s video, we are going to find out which is Chicken genius’ favourite banana and which is Angel’s favourite banana! Angel is also going to rate the bananas according to the taste and texture.

You're eating few bananas wrongly. For rastali and keling, wait for the stems to be completely yellow before eating. People love these 2 bananas because they have a light, bright taste and not the usual heavy, starchy mouthfeel other bananas have. If the stems are still green, you have an astringent or "siap" aftertaste. Kepok is a cooking banana so if you want to eat it raw, you'd need to wait until it's really overripe, until the skin is almost black. Do not worry about it going bad as the skin is very thick. This goes for all cooking bananas (nangka, tanduk, etc). How do you tell it's a cooking banana? All angular-shaped bananas are cooking bananas and they have thick skins. They are often cooked unripe so they hold their shape and are great in stews, eaten like potatoes. Raja is also angular-shaped (but not as angular as kepok) and I noticed you ate it when it was overripe. For the red banana (raja udang), press the banana. If it's hard, it's still unripe. If you can feel some depression, it's ready to eat.
Rastali is named because the variety often have 2 bananas stuck together. Tali is the red string that binds the bride & groom together as a married couple in a Hindu wedding ceremony.
Bananas I always buy are rastali, keling, raja, raja udang and mas (kids love it). Tanduk if I'm making banana jam. Ang bak jio is a can't go wrong banana. Most hated are cavendish & 40 day bananas and I will NEVER buy them.

Recently I went to golden mile to buy their fried banana, it’s really pisang kepok! Such a huge difference! I am pleasantly surprised! ☺️
The bunch of Raja was the last bunch that the fruit seller had for me😅 although it looks over ripe, the taste is so good! 😋
Cavendish banana is everywhere in the supermarket hahaha, do you also remove them if they appears in your dessert? (Cos I used to do that when I was small)

Good efforts to share the different types. Although I have heard of some names but you showed the difference. My favourite is Cavendish because it looks the cleanest on the outside and always available. It also doesnt become over ripe too quickly.

@@AN9ELHSU Cavendish usually eaten by Ang Moh and used in Banana Split ice cream. Most Ah Ma will avoid Cavendish. They believe it's very "cooling". Not good for young girls. Hehe.

The best ever fried bananas I had was from Maxwell. The uncle only uses Pijang Rajas, but he's retired no one took over his business. Very wasted.
My father will often buy the ang jio, next to Pijang Raja we like to make banana cakes with it. Got to make cakes with overly ripen bananas for the best fragrance.
The ones usually from Supermarkets are from Philippines. Hmmm so-so for this not very fragrant nor creamy as those I mentioned.

Also, I think I old leow, hearing got problem.... from 02:46 onwards at the "ah Beng ang kong" for tattoo part, the "ang kong" pronunciation is supposed to sound like "cartoon, picture" meaning (soft tones)... When I hear him say it out loud, it sound so much like "red mug/cup" (hard tones) meaning when he say it....

第2种，pisang mas(本来叫Pisang Emas)，马来话。Emas=黄金。（也叫Lady Fingers Banana). 第七种(做蛋糕最棒）也叫”香牙蕉”，Dole & Del Monte 品牌一样好吃。第九种马来话也叫Pisang Batu(石头蕉），不适合这样吃，要用煮或蒸，还是做炸香蕉。还有第10种，你可以在印度小贩或菜摊可以看到，叫做Pisang Tanduk (牛角蕉）普通有10寸长，我有种过15寸长重1公斤的。我再介绍你去搜查”pisang papua raksasa” （巴布亚巨蕉）。🤣🤣🤣

@@AN9ELHSU The boss just want to sell.!.Definitely not ripe yet. Still hard right? Wait till it's slightly softer but not too soft or when black spots start appearing. If not mistaken rastali and Keling Chio are similar. One of my favourite Chio. Pisang raja is more for goreng Pisang while the Pisang kepok is more favoured by the Malay goreng Pisang sellers. All the Chios you hung there are still not ready to eat yet from my observation and opinion. Some of them still raw.
