    Dam sub five for twelve miles is crazy for an 800 guy

  • @Imslightlyobnoxious
    @Imslightlyobnoxious 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Wow, a lot of volume (mileage) for an 800 guy! Been 15 years since I competed, but I was under the impression that training for the 800 was more speed-focused nowadays. I suppose everybody has their own way with what aligns to their body.

    • @benanastasoff8980
      @benanastasoff8980 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I think Clayton is more of a strength based 800 guy. He runs well in the 1500. Even the very speed based guys like Brazier run close to 50mpw at times

    • @Imslightlyobnoxious
      @Imslightlyobnoxious 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@benanastasoff8980 yeah I saw that Brazier has great range, having respectable PRs at the world level all the way from 400M to 5K. I was thinking someone like Rudisha, who's more of a 400/800 guy. I doubt that guys like him go more than 30mpw. Though I could be wrong.

    • @benanastasoff8980
      @benanastasoff8980 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@Imslightlyobnoxious yeah, you’re probably right. But Rudisha’s career was short with a few sparkling moments of glory. He was injured a lot, so the high speed and low volume thing is probably right. Brazier used to be that kind of guy in his A&M days, but Pete Julian has him working on strength a little more. I don’t think Brazier actually has a globally competitive 5000, but there’s no doubt he could throw down significantly faster than the average person. If you look at the serious strength based 800 guys like Murphy, Timothy Cheruiyot, or Nick Symmonds, they would often run as much as 70 miles per week

      Same thing with me. I can’t eat anything 4-5 hours before running. Doesn’t matter how light it is. A piece of bread would make my stomach uneasy close to my run. So many of my teammates have given me a concerned look when I don’t eat all day at a track meet when my race is in the evening

    • @benanastasoff8980
      @benanastasoff8980 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Brazier is different than the average person. You could still get a decent long run in within 1hrs time. At that level, sub6 miles are easily achievable for a long run. That’d place him over 10 miles still, which is good enough for the 800
