Amazing how Sally can say something as badass as “So... yesterday I did 30miles - today I'm gonna run 30 miles” like nothing and with a smile. An inspiration to say the least.
I was encouraged by your explanation of splitting up workouts during a busy day with kids. I get discouraged thinking I can’t get out for the miles I had planned, but I could do a better job of problem solving and time management. Every minute counts. Thanks again for sharing.
Jessica I still remember when my kids were babies being so overwhelmed trying to follow a structured training plan; I literally had to let it go and just create a plan as best I could...your training should never make you feel guilty...make it your own; do the best with what you have...even if it means three 2 mile runs in a day. The seasons will change and so will your training. All the very best to you!
I'm not training for anything like this, but I absolutely agree with the 4am start. Nothing like starting the day early. After a good run before sunrise run, the rest of the day is easy. Now that I'm 55, those 12-13 mile mornings before work and now more like 7-9 miles, but I'm still at it! First video I've watched of yours, and I enjoyed it! Keep it up!
I love your philosophy on improving running. Running is a lot more flexible than we think, and aerobic improvement doesn’t have to happen in 1 hr chunks. I’ve had runs where I run commute for 15 minutes, 30 min run at lunch, and commute home. Do what you can, and you will improve!
Your advice about early morning workouts is so true. I work full time and I’m married with a 3 year old daughter so getting 2 hours of training a day means me waking up super early. On weekends I start my 15-20 mile long runs at 4:30am.
Nice work Tony! Also...3 years old is such a fun and BUSY season- am I right!? Ha! Well done getting those long runs in at 4:30am- I know that is NOT easy- keep crushin friend!
@@xzaz2 Prepare everything the night before - check weather, put aside correct clothes, shoes, etc. Then you wake up, grab a glass of water and dress up, and you are through the door. I do exactly the same - 4:30am start, with 2 hours - 2 hours 30 minutes I'm at home before they wake up around 07:15am.
I’m a recent fan after watching you Cocodona 250 video. I can totally see why you had so many fans in the live stream of that race. Thanks for bringing so many smiles to so many people
You are such a gentle savage Sally, it is truly inspiring. I love that you actually open up about life responsibilities and family too. Having a business, a spouse, kids and other people that depend on me was my excuse for not getting after my dreams but everything started to shift when I forced myself to make the time for myself. The big BONUS is that now my kids get to witness daddy getting after it. Thanks Sally!
Yes!!!! Thank you for encouraging us mamas!! I am 27 with my first baby. 1 year old and ran my first half marathon at 11 months postpartum and trained during postpartum helped me mentally so much! It was tough but worth it ❤ now I’m training for my full marathon and you are a HUGE INSPIRATION 😘 thank you for sharing your journey!!!!
Sally, I discovered you as an iFIT trainer, and I am so glad I did, because you are an inspiration to me! I started running again a couple of years ago, and I have increased my distances little by little to go beyond what I ever did in my early 20s. I am now 61 and looking at doing my first half marathon in a few months!
Lourdes! Thank you so much for being here and sharing that with me- appreciate it! And wow so freaking awesome to hear you are on your way to a half-marathon; hope training is going strong! Thank you for watching!
Mom of 4, soon to be 5. Training has been a struggle, but every little bit is progress. My motto has become, if you're moving, you're winning, lol even if it's a quick run or a quick workout, it's all progress.
This video could not have came at a better time! I bought these shorts directly after watching this video and ran a marathon yesterday in them. They felt great and the pockets.... tons of space! Thank you Sally for your content and sharing the shorts with us!
You are never grubby or sweaty or a mess and that was 30 miles! You are extraordinary but nothing is free you have worked tirelessly for these splendid results and I feel God has his hand on your back for his glory! Keep truckin I can’t wait to follow your Cocodona escapade!
You and Eddie bring so much joy to us all - thank you!! Love these videos and your podcasts - always leave me with immense feelings of gratitude, positivity and JOY!
I love that you take away excuses in a loving and concrete way. It’s super easy to look at the obstacles without seeing the possibilities. I recall a time when both of my little kids were under the weather (just colds…nothing major) but I needed to fit in a 12-mile run. So I ran 3 miles early morning while they slumbered and then ran 1-mile an hour…being gone 10 min didn’t interfere with cuddles and love and I was able to fit it in. Not ideal, but done. :)
Thank you for letting us be a part of your life and training. I've been following you for a few years now and find your story, training philosophy and content very encouraging. I'm glad you've been making more videos lately. As a mom of 1 and 4 year olds, I often think of your phrase "There is always 4 in the morning". This way I can do a large part of my training. Precisely because I'm a mom too, I have a lot of respect for you and your training. I wish you all the best 💛
LOVE this. I'm a mom of a toddler training for my first triathlon and I think this is something NO ONE talks about. Being a mom and trying to train for big goals while also balancing home life and the limited time with your kiddos is this added layer of mental tetris that only a select few people understand. Former me would have said "oh, well if I can't do one big stretch of training, I probs shouldn't do it at all" but I've checked my ego and now squeeze sessions in wherever I can. Thank you for sharing your approach on this!
@@xzaz2 For sure! We're still breastfeeding over here, so much of the emotional support and night wakings fall on me. My husband supports where he cane (daycare drop off, dinners, weekends) but it definitely looks different when you're still nursing babe.
Thank you for sharing your training journey, as a mom of a 3 year old is encouraging to hear that even though training isn't always picture perfect you will see the results with consistency and dedication. Thanks for creating great content!
Thank you for that feedback! And omg I remember when my kiddos were that age; it is CRAZY BUSY right! ha! It wasn't until both my kids were in grade school full time that I was finally able to have a bit more structure to my training; it's been fun to create a program that fits my life...and I believe all parents should show themselves some loving grace in this area. You're doing a great job- enjoy whatever training you can make happen, consistency is key and your programming doesn't need to look like everyone else.
These answers resonated with me. As my kid was growing I had seasons of creatively finding a way to train. And those seasons of finding excuses. I remind myself there is a way, I need to just look for it and seize it even when its not the ideal.
I just came across your channel and you inspire me so much! I just finished my first-ever half-marathon and it was tough but I survived. My next goal is to complete a full marathon and then hopefully be able to participate in a 30-mile run race.
Such profound wisdom is letting go of expectations on trying to make my life look like others!! I am unique, my family is unique and letting go on controlling it to be like others. Thank you!!
I like the Cocodona because of the great live coverage. But I'll admit, I usually don't know much about the runners. So that's why videos like this are so great, and ultra running in general. It's about the athlete as a person and their story, rather than just past race stats. I'll be looking for you on the live feed!
Such great insight to being a mom and training, Sally!! Thank you for sharing. Currently trying my best to include my kids into my training by pushing their jeep wagon around. It’s an extra 30-70 lbs, but I do notice that it’s upping my game. My route has some small hills and a nice view, so it does the job. Sometimes it’s hard for me to let go of expectations, but I’m learning to little by little. I want my kids to be inspired and not feel like they’re getting in the way or something. Sometimes they have tantrums while I’m running, so that’s embarrassing lol but I guess that’s just mom life 😂
Thanks for taking us along and sharing the information. The idea that as runners our training does not have to look like anyone else’s training. One of the great things about running is how personal and individual that it can be.
Thank you so much for this! Sally, I'd love to hear more about what recovery looks like after a big race! I've seen so many videos about prepping for races, but not many about the aftermath. What's sleep, digestion, and overall mood like after a big race?! You're amazing, keep at it!
I appreciate that Sally lays it on the line and speaks to training with small kids while working a full time job. Just this past weekend I was stressing about the long runs being broken up and not being prepared for my first 100 mile race. This spoke to me and helped me realize that I am doing what I have to do. Thank you Sally.
Really appreciate what you shared in this video! As a mom who is about to get back into running and focus on fitness more. The tips on how you juggle it all was very encouraging
This is a great way to share your experience and learnings. Wishing you much success in this training block. Also, I have now learned to assess shorts by the number of calories they can carry lol!
You are such an inspiration! I recently got back into running (my high school sport) after 10 years of chronic debilitating illness. I started running again in August of this year and just this past weekend completed my first ever half marathon in 1:45:58! I am running a full marathon in April and have started to become interested in ultrarunning, too. I was thinking of doing a 50 miler next fall just to see how it feels and maybe if I like it, going for even longer races. Thanks so much for sharing your world and insights. I never thought ultrarunning would be something I'd want to do until I saw your videos! :)
Love your videos Sally! I’m working through a back injury and I’m so motivated to get better to start logging miles again! You’re honesty is so refreshing!
Great video. I live in the hills of North Georgia and love it, but running on but running on a flat beach looks great 👍 Might watch this on my treadmill. Thanks for the motivation training for a BQ at 61 this year
Always watch your videos before my runs in the morning, before going to work! You have such a positive and beautiful energy and that has motivated me with my runs a lot! Thank you so much! ❤️
Hi! I was wondering what earbuds you were using in this video or know of any that don’t fall out while you run! Also I love watching your videos, you are such an inspiration😊(currently reading your book too!)
This was really fun to watch, love this video concept! No matter if its a podcast, video, or ifit workout, I'm always learning something new from Sally :)
Thank you so much for this! I’ve been trying to sort out exactly how to do this with my 1 and 3 year old. I know as a woman sometimes these questions probably feel a little patronizing at times but I think most just genuinely want to know how you do it!! Amazing 🎉
Awww I so appreciate the feedback and I truly LOVE answering the questions; when I first stepped into the world of ultras there was VERY little guidance out there especially for mamas of little babies; I was fairly isolated, so being able to share my experience and encourage other parents has been a real joy for me. ANYTHING is possible and it doesn't need to look like anyone else's journey except your own. Enjoy the journey and enjoy every day with your precious babes- it goes so fast...mine are 14 and 16 now! YOu're doing great Brittany!
This was such a timely video for me! I've just committed to running another ultra in March and the training is so much harder now I have 2 under 2, especially a weekly long run. I've combined a few ideas of yours. Plan is to 20km in the evening then 20km in the morning. Just finished the first half, second half is tomorrow morning. Forecast is -1C so a pretty hard start!
I needed to hear this. I used to do marathons, but now with this season of my business growing, I haven't had the chance to. I'll start running in the morning with my dog instead of just walking him to start
This is golden content. Thank you for sharing all this insight. It’s also reassuring that another parent who’s a real pro has done what I feel like I’ve had to do in regard to breaking up training or getting up early etc
Absolutely Danny! There's a lot we can learn from traditional training schedules, but at the end of the day those schedules never had our unique lives in mind, so I am a huge advocate for training in the way that fits your life...not letting training dictate our lives. Big love to you!
Saw your podcast with Nick Bare and was blown away about you as a whole! I just ran my first half marathon, now training for a 26.2 a couple months from now. You're a beast in so many different ways! Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family!
I love to hear about your faith journey alongside of the running journey and see how it all goes together hand in hand. God is in the details! Also neat to hear that you use BPN...I've been following Nick Bare since he got into triathlon years ago. :) Sally, you are a ray of sunshine and I'm praying for you! God bless, Megan
Thank you so much Meg! And YES BPN is awesome, they have been incredibly supportive of me and my journey! (I signed as one of their athletes last year...Nick and his wife Stef are beautiful souls!) And YES, my faith is why I do what I do and how I can keep going and push through any obstacle in life and in a race- thank you for your kind words! Big love!
So encouraging and helpful, Sally. The balancing is always a challenge. I agee, the early wake up is absolutely essential for me with balancing career, training, and being the best husband and dad I can be. Super great content.
I still remember the first time I ran 6 miles in a row; it was such an incredible feeling! 10 miles is SOLID and another way of showing yourself what you're capable of doing! Go crush that run tomorrow!
Wow! Sally- so excited to have your channel show up!! Women really can do it all. You are a prime example of what we can accomplish. Thank you for showing up😁🥰
From Wales in the UK, thank you for being an inspiration. I bought the invincibles this week and thinking of using them for a long run next week. Then saw you had them and what you had to say, makes me look forward to it now. So much gold content!
yesss! the invincibles are FANTASTIC! I just got the newer model but not sure if I like it as much as the ones I'm wearing this vid- stay tuned! Hope you had a great long run!
I recently saw you on Nick Bare's channel & just came across 1 of your videos so I was intrigued to watch it. Wow, back to back days with 30 mile runs?? You are a friggin beast! Really enjoyed the video. Will definitely watch more of them! 😊
Hi Sally! I love following you and hearing what you have to tell the world. You are truly amazing and so inspirational. Such a light! I love you Sally!🫶🏼🫶🏼🫶🏼🫶🏼
Just found your channel, and absolutely love it! I share some similar challenges on how to fit everything in with the family, work and training as i know many people do! This video helped open my eyes on getting it to work for me and not to follow this plan or that plan.... really nice video and well put together... ill be subscribing and hope to see more videos soon! Thank you!
Ben thank you for taking the time to comment. As a fellow parent juggling work, social, etc I feel ya! And I do believe it's a life-long journey of constantly changing seasons where we always need to be flexible and gracious. I have so much respect and care for parents who dedicate themselves to their families while fitting it all in; so happy to know this vid shed a little light for you. Big STRENGTH to you!
Fantastic episode!! You and Eddie are doing an amazing job with these. I love to watch and learn from you while I get ready for my first ultra this year during a very busy time in my life (baby #2 on the way next month and new job). Please keep putting these out!
Jesus ran trails. No bus lines and donkey rental a bit pricey. Really encouraging, just did a rare morning run and enjoyed it. Thanks for sharing. Great to hear your family life thriving! Prayers up that it continues and any challenges are met head on.
7 miles is no walk in the park- well done! I still remember the day I was able to run 6 miles straight...I'll never forget it because my halfway (turnaround point) was at a gas station called EXTRA MILE...7 miles used to sound daunting to me! Well done on YOUR journey....bet you can go further than you think you can! Thank you for watching!
All of us running out to buy those Nike shorts. I love your videos and I am just so impressed with you and look up to you so much. I loved your husbands commentary about the food in your bag. That was hilarious! Amazing job on your run and you're going to crush Cocodona!!
Wow. I'd run 30 miles with scenery and weather like that. Well done. I ran 46 mile training run in January for Alder Hey hospital, Liverpool. I hope now to run more. I run most of my runs 5am. That's best time of the day. Running to/from work is also free running, your going work anyway so why not run.
Incredible! I have 7 ppl in my family growing up and it was BUSY all the time; so much love and respect for you and all the hard working parents juggling ALL THE THINGS in life. Thanks so much for watching Mary!
Hi Sally and Pastor Eddy. Just subscribed to your channel. I'm 54.9yrs / 120kg and just started walking to lose weight and join the ultra marathon movement. Am I late to run ultras and trail ultras. I enjoy watching them. From South Africa 😎😎😎

So awesome, and so encouraged by you and your husbands teamwork and work ethic.
I call my husband my Redwood tree....strong and enduring; he has been there every step of my journey.
Thank you Sally! You and Eddie are seriously the sweetest couple. What an amazing team. Thanks for being YOU. xo
Saw your podcast with Nick Bare and was blown away about you as a whole!
I just ran my first half marathon, now training for a 26.2 a couple months from now.
You're a beast in so many different ways! Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family!
You are real, humble and inspiring. Thank you.
Back to Back 30 mile long runs. Craziness in a good way. So much for me thinking my ten miles tomorrow is a long run. lol.
Thank you for showing up😁🥰
Appreciate your kind words Heather! Thank you so much for watching!
You are so awesome!!! So much respect
Great answer on getting the basics of training and incorporating it in your life the best you can.
I recently saw you on Nick Bare's channel & just came across 1 of your videos so I was intrigued to watch it. Wow, back to back days with 30 mile runs?? You are a friggin beast! Really enjoyed the video. Will definitely watch more of them! 😊
Thank you so much for watching Joe...and for listening to the podcast!
So encouraging and inspiring! Love your honesty and simplicity! Please record more content!

Thank you for your kind words! xoxo
Thanks so much for this content! I have 5 small kids! 7,5,3,3 and 2. Did a 50k last year doing a 50 miler this year. Thanks for the inspiration!

Fantastic episode!! You and Eddie are doing an amazing job with these. I love to watch and learn from you while I get ready for my first ultra this year during a very busy time in my life (baby #2 on the way next month and new job). Please keep putting these out!
Thank you! Congrats on baby #2!!
@@sallymcraestrength thanks so much!
Jesus ran trails. No bus lines and donkey rental a bit pricey. Really encouraging, just did a rare morning run and enjoyed it. Thanks for sharing. Great to hear your family life thriving! Prayers up that it continues and any challenges are met head on.
Awesome video! Such an inspiration for those who have fulltime jobs and families!
I love these consistent vlogs!
thank you Haylee! We couldn't do it without Drew Darby and Eddie!
once again, love the vibe and overall message
Amazing advice Sally. Thanks. I really need to figure out the early mornings
This is truly incredible. Thanks for this encouragement. 🎉
New book?!? Can’t wait! ❤ 🔥💪
Awesome! I live in HB and that's my daily route, Golden West to Newport and back. Thanks Sally!
nice Elias! We are very fortunate to run in such a beautiful place! See ya out there!
Love the vids! Keep em coming!
Two 30 mile runs, back to back. Thats some amazing work, I thought my little 7 miles a day, was big business.
What a badass. Thanks for inspiration. …in running AND fashion 😊
All of us running out to buy those Nike shorts. I love your videos and I am just so impressed with you and look up to you so much. I loved your husbands commentary about the food in your bag. That was hilarious! Amazing job on your run and you're going to crush Cocodona!!
thank you Alexis!
So glad I found you from Nick Barre podcast. So excited for your book. I can't wait.
Appreciate you Thom! Nick wrote the Foreword for my book!!
Have you ever raced with Goggins? Your discipline is an inspiration. Thanks for documenting it.
Fabulous! I’m sure my travels have taken me to Huntington Beach… beautiful part of world 🏆
Loved getting to know a bit about you with the questions ❤
Your videos are super inspiring and encouraging. Can’t wait to watch you journey
Thank you so much!!
This is so incredibly encouraging for me. Thank you.
I have 6 kids. Everything you shared is amazing. You're my favorite!
Incredible! I have 7 ppl in my family growing up and it was BUSY all the time; so much love and respect for you and all the hard working parents juggling ALL THE THINGS in life. Thanks so much for watching Mary!
Hey Sally! I love your videos! Is there any about a pre run warmup routine of yours? 😊
I just wanna know if Eddie ate the fruit snacks & chocolate out of the “nutrition” bag? 🤔😅
lol!!
Yo Sally great answers to the questions. Love you guys. Great team!
thanks for watching!
